The Shadow Throne, Quote 4

TST_large

Today’s quote is part of a conversation between Roden and Jaron:

Roden frowned. “Jaron, are you in love with Imogen?”

I stared through empty air until I lost focus of the world. “I cannot love her.”

“Of course you can. I know she already –”

“No, Roden, I can not love her. That choice was never given to me.”

The Shadow Throne, Quote 3

TST_large

Ahh, Jaron will you never learn?

To which he would undoubtedly reply, “No. Never.”

This moment occurs in the midst of some tough scenes for Jaron.

“I told you to humble him,” Vargan said to his men. “Does he look humble?”

In all fairness to his soldiers, until the moment I spit on their king, I probably had looked pretty humble. But this also meant I had more punishment coming my way. The spitting was still worth it.

Some places have already begun selling or shipping this book. But it’ll be available everywhere US/Canada of February 25, and through the UK on March 1! War is Coming…

The Shadow Throne, Quote 2

TST_large

Just a short quote today, with Jaron doing the speaking (of course – when does he ever let anyone else get a word in?)

“Your recruit didn’t get the description of your odor quite right. He said it was similar to a skunk’s, but I think that’s unkind to the skunk.”

THE SHADOW THRONE, Quote 1

TST_largeTo celebrate the release of THE SHADOW THRONE next Tuesday (woot!), I’m going to post one quote a day from the book. If you want to read the entire story for yourself, ask now if it will be at your  library, or you can find one wherever you shop for books.

If you are a Utah type, there’ll be a launch party on Feb 25th at the King’s English in SLC at 7 pm. You can also check my Events page for other places I’ll be signing (though there aren’t many public appearances this spring, I admit)

Quote 1:

Mott licked his lips and said, “My first duty is to you, Jaron, and I will gladly go in your place. But your first duty is to this country. Not to her.”

That only made me angrier. “Do not lecture me about duty! What else have I done in life but my duty? I disappeared in the name of duty and returned for the same reason, and I will fight this war because it is my duty to do so. No matter how I wished to do otherwise, each time duty presented itself, I answered. But not this time.”

What Are You Waiting For?

15703770

It’s only days away to the release of THE SHADOW THRONE, and until then, every day I’m going to post a different quote from the book, just to get you excited (Because I am SO, SO excited!)

So if you loved THE FALSE PRINCE, but haven’t yet tried out Book 2, THE RUNAWAY KING, what are you waiting for? It’s just released in paperback, so if you’re buying, then the price is right. If it’s not in your library, ask them to get a copy. And if your friend just leaves it laying around the house, unguarded, then that’s their fault if you decide to go all Sage on them and “borrow it” for a while.

Actually, stealing is wrong. Borrowing…well, that’s in a gray zone.

Anyway, my point is there’s lots of ways to get a copy. If you get it now, you can have it read by the time THE SHADOW THRONE releases, and trust me, you’ll want to have that third book ready for when you finish THE RUNAWAY KING. Those who finished it months ago will already understand why.

Read more about it here, or follow the links to a place where you can pick up a book for yourself!

Here are a few of my favorite quotes from THE RUNAWAY KING:

* * *

He put a finger to his face while he studied me. “You’re such a young king. I barely remember being your age.”

“Then clearly we’re talking about how old you are, not how young I am.”

* * *

Fixed on his eyes, I said, “Do you laugh at me?”

He was quite for a moment and finally the tension drained from him. “No, Jaron,” he said darkly. “I curse you with every breath I exhale. But I do not laugh.”

* * *

Then Lord Termouthe said, “Jaron, will you support this plan?”

I tapped my fingers on the armrest. “No.”

“Which part do you object to?” Gregor asked.

“The part where you began speaking.”

* * *

Despite the pain it caused, I leaned forward and in a soft whisper said, “There was something you failed to understand about me.” He tilted his head and in my strongest voice I added, “I never run!”

* * *

How about you? Any favorite quotes from Book 2 that you want to share?

Big Giveaway Winners!

Okay, mea culpa here. I thought the idea of donating would make it fun to see what winning readers might plan to do with their books. And you all responded with so much generosity and real stories of need within your schools and community, or your enthusiasm to share a book with a friend, or even to keep the book because you haven’t been able to get a copy of your own. I read each comment feeling more and more sad that I wouldn’t be able to give books to everyone.

For those who didn’t win a copy of THE SHADOW THRONE, there will be one last ARC giveaway beginning tomorrow here. Otherwise, the book will be released in only one month!

January Update

There’s a reason I haven’t posted much lately. It’s because I’m terrible at posting. Also, because it’s

222,xitefun-stop-procrastinatingeasy to procrastinate. Also, because I’ve been sorta crazy busy with Ancient Rome stuff (see Update 5). Anyway, I do have some updates for you.

Update 1: There isn’t really any movie news. The screenplay is in revisions, and probably will be for many moons. So be patient. I promise, promise that I will shout it out if anything changes.

TST_largeUpdate 2: THE SHADOW THRONE releases on Feb 25 in the U.S., and Mar 6 in the UK and Canada. Foreign editions will be released when they’re translated. It should be available wherever you buy books, but ask if it’s not on their shelves. Please buy from an indie bookstore if possible.

If you want a signed copy from me, the best way to get it is to order online from The King’s English Bookstore. They’ll have me sign it and then mail it to you. You can order here now and get it signed and delivered the week of release!

Update 3: THE RUNAWAY KING will be released in paperback on Jan 28. Ditto from Update 2 if you want a signed copy. Order here now!

Update 4: I only have two public signings scheduled anywhere on planet earth right now. One is on Feb 25 at 7 pm at The King’s English in Salt Lake City. If you’re a Utah type, please try to come. I’ll bring cake, or something. Probably. The second is at Barnes & Noble Southtowne on Mar 1 from 1-4 pm. If you want a signed book, but can’t make it to meet me in person, see Update 2 and 3 above.

writer_not_crazy_just_in_rewrites_posters-r4ec96819f1eb45a48c88f2e9843b8ccb_wfb_8byvr_324

Update 5: Right now, what am I writing? I recently turned in the first draft of Book 1 of THE PRAETOR WAR to my editor. I’ll be working with her for a few months on revisions. I know some of you are having a hard time thinking about letting go of Jaron, but I think you’ll also learn to love Nic!

Finally, Update 6: There’s an announcement coming soon. Nope, not movie news, but other news that I’m really excited about. I’ve been waiting to talk about this for a long time, but hopefully it’ll be public in another week or two.

Winners!

TST_large

Alrighty, so now I wish ALL OF YOU could’ve won!

Your comments for things you hoped to see in this book were so much fun to read. It makes me even more excited to have you all read it and see how your hopes and guesses match up with the way things unfold for Jaron & Co.

The winners have been chosen and emails sent out. Which means (frowny face here) if you didn’t get an email from me, then someone else won. I will post the winners’ names after I hear back from all of them.

There will be other giveaways before the book releases, maybe from me, or from other blogs. But BEST OF ALL, hardcover books will be released soon (Feb 25, 2014) for everyone to read!

Which is a good thing, because as all of you know (if you’ve finished THE RUNAWAY KING), the kingdom of Carthya is in a tight spot, and War is Coming…

THE SHADOW THRONE ARC giveaway

TST_largeOkay, I’ve been promising this for several weeks. Here it is!

I am giving away a total of SIX galley copies of THE SHADOW THRONE.

You ask, what is a galley? A galley (a.k.a. ARC: Advanced Review Copy) is a paperback version of the book meant to be sent to reviewers and bookstore buyers. They are not for resale and sometimes have typos because they are printed early. Occasionally, the author gets her sticky little hands on a few copies and can give them away to awesomes out there like YOU!

The contest runs from RIGHT THIS VERY MINUTE until Sunday Dec. 15, 2013. At which point I’ll get a notification of the winners and ship everything out as soon as you contact me with a mailing address. There are many ways to enter.

a Rafflecopter giveaway

I wish everyone could win, but alas, my hands are not sticky enough for all of you. If you don’t win just know that February 25, 2014 (the release date) is coming soon, and I hope everyone will have a chance to find a copy then.

Fight for the Future. Die for the Throne.

War is Coming…
