Next Blog Stop: Bloodlands giveaway!

Over at All Things Urban Fantasy, there's a great giveaway going on. They have *three* copies of Bloodlands they're giving away, plus an arc of book 2, Blood Rules! How's that? Plus, they asked each of us authors to write a sort of tour of the setting of our books, based on a main character's point of view.

Come on down!

Another Cool Bloodlands Review!

Here's a nice review from Fresh Fiction:

Not only did Gabriel want to find Abby, the woman who'd run from him, he wants to find solace from the crazy world. However, with governmentally-trained agents called Shredders seeking to kill all the preternaturals left in the country, this lone vampire knows his possibility of redemption or even a semblance of humanity is slim to none. Injured by local hoodlums in the vast Western wasteland, he is reluctantly taken in by Mariah, one of a small underground community. He hopes the members will know something about Abby, but they are more than normally paranoid about outsiders. They're being harassed by someone known as Stamp, a cold man who asserts that he just wants to be good neighbors, even as his wild associates torment everyone in their paths. Even though Chaplin, Mariah's Intel dog, vouches for Gabriel, he finds it difficult to chip away their protective armor. Despite his attempts to stay aloof from their troubles because of his determination to move on once he discovers what happened to Abby, the frenzied passion and fear boiling beneath Mariah's surface intrigues him and draws him dangerously closer.

An excellent novel that touches on a dystopic potential future, BLOODLANDS depicts the gritty nature of survival and secrecy and sets fire to a fabulous new series.

Cool Mention in PW for Bloodlands!

Just thought I'd share this piece of coolness: In the most recent issue of Publisher's Weekly (June 27), there's a short article on page 60 about speculative fiction and how there are a lot of books coming out that can't be easily classified. Bloodlands is one of them! They call it a postapocalyptic supernatural western that subverts all three categories.

Big smiles. : )

Starred PW Review

The reviews for Bloodlands are starting to come in, and I'm happy to say that I got my first starred review from Publisher's Weekly. Here's what they have to say:

Cody (a pseudonym for Chris Marie Green, author of the Vampire Babylon series) effectively merges science fiction, horror, and the classic western in this spectacular trilogy launch. Near-future America has shattered into isolated human sanctuaries while government-sanctioned Shredders hunt the preternatural monsters that haunt the wilderness. A lone vampire, Gabriel, arrives at an underground refuge deep in the Badlands, where a group of desert homesteaders are being threatened by a wealthy new settler, Stamp, and his gang of thugs. Wary, traumatized Mariah Lyander and her sentient canine companion reluctantly offer Gabriel shelter. His attraction to Mariah draws him into conflict with Stamp, at the risk of revealing the vampire nature he is determined to suppress. Ingeniously subverting traditional themes, Cody skillfully builds near-claustrophobic suspense, finally revealing the true nature of monstrosity. (Aug.)

Whatcha Readin'? 6/14/11

I've started a new project (my paranormal epic fantasy--whoo!), so I'm currently doing a lot of research. But I've picked up a couple of paranormal stories, too, just to get me back in that frame of mind....

* Chosen by Blood by Virna DePaul
I just started this, but I like the world, which consists of vampire clans, vampire royalty, and other assorted paranormal creatures. I hear things get pretty hot in this book, as well, so I'm looking forward to that.

* Archangel's Kiss by Nalini Singh
This is the second book in the Guild Hunter series. Just started this one, too, but I'm already steeped in angels and vampires and danger...oh, my.

I have Game of Thrones on deck, but I'm waiting to start until after the season finale on HBO next week. (I don't want to be spoiled!) After last week's shocker of an episode, I'm dying to know what's going to happen next. I wouldn't be surprised if I made a great effort to read all the books that exist in the series right now during the summer.

Any good stories you all are reading?
