Story idea

Joe and I are going over story ideas for our new book. Haven't quite hit on just the right spark, yet. We have found some very interesting subjects but haven't had the story take form. Once we hit on the spark, we'll be rolling.

Audiobooks

Two things I'm thinking about.
One is does anyone have comments about Amazon's ACX program?

Next. Does anyone else listen to an audiobook and then feel compelled to buy the paper edition just to see how an author crafted something in text? I do that.

At Last

I want to play that song over and over because today, at last, is the final edit/revision of our new book, THE SHIELD. We will send that baby off AT LAST!

Writing is re-writing

Is a book every really done? I don't think so. No matter how many times I edit and revise, I always find something else to change in hopes of making my work even better. At some point you have to send your away and more eyes are going to scrutinize it. As soon as it has left home, I shudder, knowing it could be better. By the end of the book, and making several revision and editing passes, I am pretty doggone tired of it, but in my heart I always think I could make it better. Maybe I should have done this or that.

Does anybody else feel that way?

Critique groups

I've been in a couple of critique groups, and from these experiences I've learned there are some things you need to keep in mind when you join a group.
1. Leave your ego at the door. No one is there to blow smoke. Members are there to help make your work stronger and more marketable.
2. If something in your work stops or bothers one or more of the group, it will bother a reader--maybe. Keep the in mind.
3. You do a good job of critiquing other member's WIP because you are there to help, not just be helped.
5. Sit on suggestions overnight, even if your first reaction is strongly negative and you don't agree.
6. Be honest about the work you are critiquing but don't make it personal.
7. Don't take anything personally.
8. If you are not getting the rigorous critique you feel you are seeking, perhaps this is not the group for you. Try another.
9. Keep your cool when others critique your work no matter how you are feeling. You can screech or cry in your car on the way home.
10. Remember that in the end it is your call. You are the author.
