Remembering the albatross
Remembering my father's birthday today, I recall struggling to finish SPIRIT OF THE TURTLE WOMAN. While writing it, both mom and dad died within 24 days of each other. Mom first, then my dad just "quit." He died of mourning, though they say a brain aneurysm. SPIRIT OF THE TURTLE WOMAN was a difficult book to finish. To use a cliche,it was an albatross around my neck. That book comes back to me so strongly whenever it is their birthday or on the dates they passed away. There were so many raw emotions poured in the writing. I both hated and loved the book.

Adverbs
Love a quote from Stephen King: "The road to hell is paved with adverbs."
You have to remember that an adverb is a modifier—an enhancer. It modifies or enhances the verb which should be a red flag that maybe you haven't chosen just the right verb. Adverbs have their place, but sometimes they are simply covering up for a weak verb. It's sometimes difficult to get teachers (and I was a teacher) to stress VERBS with kids and get away from adverbs. Verbs are where the power is in writing. That and precise nouns.
Have no idea why that is bugging me today!

so many projects
I think we have about 7 projects in the fire at the moment. It's a good thing that it is rainy so I'm not distracted by the idea of getting out on the water and catching a fish or two.

Got it!
Well, we have the seed idea and the big plan, but now we're working on just who the antagonist is and the motivation. Amazing how the story stews in your head until it is finally cooked.
