Praise

“Doug Moe has written a delightful and helpful book that gives real advice about the Wild West world of raising children.”  Amy Poehleractress, comedian, and New York Times bestselling author of Yes Please

“Thankfully for new fathers like me, Doug Moe knows it all, from little kids doing pee-pee to big kids doing homework. It’s essential reading for dads and future dads.”Michael Showalter, writer/director and cocreator of Wet Hot American Summer

“Doug Moe is the second-best father I know. Even if the only thing you get from this book is a good time, then Doug has done more for fathers than any other book of its kind.”Rob Corddry, actor and comedian, The Daily Show and Ballers

“I am about to have a baby and I am terrified and feel like an idiot! Then I read Doug Moe’s Man vs. Child! Now, I am prepared to have a baby. I am slightly less terrified and I am still an idiot! Thanks, Doug!” Bobby Moynihan, actor and comedian, Saturday Night Live

“Hurry up and buy this book! I didn’t get a chance before my baby came and now I’m screwed! Help! I haven’t slept in weeks and now I don’t know what I’m doing! Dammit, Doug, why didn’t you write this while I still had time to read books??” Rob Huebel, actor and comedian, Human Giant and Transparent

“Man vs. Child is a hilariously honest look at parenting that even moms can appreciate. I mean, any book that encourages new dads to ‘vacuum and be nice’ is one I can get behind!”Ilana Wiles, blogger and author of The Mommy Shorts Guide to Remarkably Average Parenting

“A taught, erotic thriller. This is a smart, dark look at  the human condition, our strengths and our weaknesses.  Doug Moe has done it again.  I did not read this book.”-

“…a tongue-in-cheek guide for new fathers with awkward questions, including—but not limited to—“Is It Okay to Bring My Baby to a Bar?” The short answer is no, but there are plenty of long answers as well: Moe writes from experience, and casts an empathetic eye on the shifting representations of modern fatherhood. “Old Dads,” Moe claims, could father from a distance, while the “New Dads” of today are rightfully expected to share playtime duties. He goes on to describe the awed affection new fathers may have for their children with relatable humor and genuine insight, offering a promising resource for the curious and the clueless.” - The New Yorker

I’m looking forward to diving into @dougmoe‘s book @manvchild.

I’m also looking forward to my nightly bourbon.

Congrats, Doug. This is amazing. (I mean the book, not the bourbon… Of course, the bourbon is amazing… You know what I’m saying.)

I hope you like it David - it might make even more sense with the bourbon.  Also, you are the first person to photograph it on a tiled background.  Pretty slick!

Anyway, thanks for telling people about it!  Buy yours at Amazon or any of the fine booksellers you see here!

'Why Can't We Own A Roller Coaster?' And Other Queries, Answered By A Dad:

God this is is cute.  I’m one of these terrible people that think “Two MINUTES?” I CAN’T LISTEN TO TWO MINUTES!  I HAVE STUFF TO DO”

But this one is worth your time.

Doug Moe Man vs Child
You know those little quotes on the back of the book from famous people? The quotes praising the book, the author, the creator of the printing press etc. Those quotes often help sell books. My last book had a quote from The Bloggess. I’m big shit. But I’m not as popular as this dad. Doug Moe managed to get Amy Poehler, Michael Showalter, Rob Corddry and Bobby Moynihan to read his new parenting…

Thanks for the shout-out Chris!

Not Quite WestworldWe went to Colonial Williamsburg over...

Not Quite Westworld

We went to Colonial Williamsburg over vacation and I mostly enjoyed it.  Like so many things, the degree to which I can enjoy something has a lot to do with how many other people are trying to enjoy it at the same time.  It’s a big place, but not big enough for every family forcing their children to learn something over the spring break.

When you get there, they give you one of those listings of all the cool events for the evening (*A Ghost Walk!“) and then when you go to sign up, they tell you everything is sold out.  I guess more prepared parents signed up for this weeks before.  A lot of times, I’m one of those!  But sometimes I’m just too busy or I don’t know *the angle.*  Us New Yorkers pride ourselves on knowing the score and when we don’t it’s ego-bruising.

In any case, when we got to see stuff it was a lot of fun.  We jammed ourselves into the printer’s shop and he showed us how he made his newspapers.  I ignored the 50 schoolchildren as they passed around his leather stamping tool and got my questions answered.  Later a barrel maker corrected my use of the term "cobbler.”  Good stuff.

But maybe Westworld has ruined my expectations for places like this.  I don’t need to kill a Redcoat or get propositioned by a Colonial prostitute, but maybe a little more street-life?  Like, how about one of those town cryers running around with some news, or a couple of drunken men giving a street preacher a hard time.  And if it’s spring break and it’s too hard to cram 40 people into the hat maker’s shop, maybe today the hat maker works outside.  Yeah yeah, the tinsmith only works on Wednesdays, but how about today he works because I’m not going to be here next Wednesday.  Let’s pull out all the stops for the nice people from New York who didn’t sign up for the Ghost Tour back in December.

Overall, a recommend.  Although, I somewhat preferred Jamestowne where we got to see some real archeology and didn’t have to spend as much time negotiating with our daughter about which hat she could buy.

NYC Book Launch Events!

Two big events for the fine folks of New York City to choose from for the launch of Man Vs Child: One Dad’s Guide to the Weirdness of Parenting.  Or come to both!

image May 9th at 7pm:  “In Conversation” Event with comedian, author and gentleman Dave Hill at Powerhouse Arena in DUMBO

Hilarious comedian Dave Hill joins me for my “pub date launch” as they say in The Biz.  Ya know, we’re gonna talk about my book and have some fun and - who knows - maybe learn something.

image May 11th at 7:30pm:  Man Vs Child: A Book Release Show Ruined by Jerks

Join me for a very serious book reading.  Hopefully no horrible parents or weird children will ruin this celebration.

I will be doing readings from the book and signing copies.   It will all be very normal, as long as there are no jerks, horrible parents, or terrible children around to ruin the show.

This one will be fun and weird.

Hope you can make it to one of the shows!
