Fear God, 210
~ New Testament Examples~
God does not want His children living in fear. “Grace and peace be multiplied to youin the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue” (2 Peter 1:2-3). However, God does want His children to have a proper respect and reverence for Him. We are told in many places in Scripture to “fear God.”
New Testament Examples ~ The following is not an exhaustive list of individuals who feared God – but rather a list of some of those individuals which the Scriptures clearly state “feared God.”
Centurion Guard ~ Matthew 27:54
Christ’s Disciples ~ Mark 4:39-41
Cornelius ~ Acts 10:21-23
Correct thinking Christians ~ Hebrews 12:28-29; 1 Peter 1:13-19
Criminal on The Cross ~ Luke 23:39-43
Early Church ~ Acts 2:40-45
Hebrews author~ Hebrews 4:1
James ~ Matthew 17:1-8
John ~ Matthew 17:1-8
Jude ~ Jude 23
Paul ~ Romans 11:20; Ephesians 5:21; Colossians 3:22
Peter ~ Matthew 17:1-8; 1 Peter 1:17
Pilate ~ John 19:6-12
Unbelievers ~ Acts 5:1-11
Witnesses to Christ’s Teaching ~ Luke 5:21-26
Zacharias ~ Luke 1:5-12
Demons ~ “You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe — and tremble!” (James 2:19).
Angels~ “Then I saw another angel flying in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach to those who dwell on the earth — to every nation, tribe, tongue, and people — saying with a loud voice, ‘Fear God and give glory to Him, for the hour of His judgment has come; and worship Him who made heaven and earth, the sea and springs of water’” (Revelation 14:6-7).
Jesus Christ, Himself ~ Jesus said, “And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell” (Matthew 10:28).
“So also Christ did not glorify Himself to become High Priest, but it was He who said to Him: ‘You are My Son, today I have begotten You.’ As He also says in another place: ‘You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek’; who, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications, with vehement cries and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death, and was heard because of His Godly fear, though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered” (Hebrews 5:5-8).

7 Links to The Lord
~ How Are the Links of Your Chain? ~
Confess the Lord ~ “If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesusand believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation” (Romans 10:9-10).
Know the Lord ~ “For if that first covenant had been faultless, then no place would have been sought for a second. Because finding fault with them, He says: ‘Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah — not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they did not continue in My covenant, and I disregarded them, says the Lord. For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. None of them shall teach his neighbor, and none his brother, saying, “Know the Lord,” for all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them. For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more’” (Hebrews 8:7-12).
Follow the Lord ~ “Nevertheless my brethren who went up with me made the heart of the people melt, but I wholly followed the Lord my God” (Joshua 14:8). “Then Jesus said to His disciples, ‘If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?” (Matthew 16:24-26).
Serve the Lord ~ “Serve the Lord with gladness; come before His presence with singing” (Psalm 100:2). “And when they had come to him, he said to them: ‘You know, from the first day that I came to Asia, in what manner I always lived among you, serving the Lord with all humility, with many tears and trials which happened to me by the plotting of the Jews; how I kept back nothing that was helpful, but proclaimed it to you, and taught you publicly and from house to house, testifying to Jews, and also to Greeks, repentance toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ’” (Acts 20:18-21). “Whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ” (Colossians 3:23-24).
Honor the Lord ~ “Honor the Lord with your possessions, and with the firstfruits of all your increase; so your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will overflow with new wine” (Proverbs 3:9-10). “… these people draw near with their mouthsand honor Me with their lips, but have removed their hearts far from Me …” (Isaiah 29:13).
Magnify the Lord ~ “Oh, magnify the Lord with me,and let us exalt His name together” (Psalm 34:3).
With the Lord ~ “We are always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord. For we walk by faith, not by sight. We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord” (2 Corinthians 5:6-8).

God Our Rock, 2
~ God Who Created and Sustains Us ~
Introduction ~ In Matthew 7:24-27 and Luke 6:47-49 Jesus relates the importance of building your house upon rock rather than sand. This principle is even more critical when it comes to our spiritual life. Each post in this series looks at a different Biblical passage which refers to our God as a Rock (not a complete list).
Scripture ~ “He made him ride in the heights of the earth, that he might eat the produce of the fields; He made him draw honey from the rock, and oil from the flinty rock; curds from the cattle, and milk of the flock, with fat of lambs; and rams of the breed of Bashan, and goats, with the choicest wheat; and you drank wine, the blood of the grapes.
“But Jeshurun grew fat and kicked; you grew fat, you grew thick, you are obese! Then he forsook God who made him, and scornfully esteemed the Rock of his salvation. They provoked Him to jealousy with foreign gods; with abominations they provoked Him to anger. They sacrificed to demons, not to God, to gods they did not know, to new gods, new arrivals that your fathers did not fear. Of the Rock who begot you, you are unmindful, and have forgotten the God who fathered you” (Deuteronomy 32:13-18).

Spiritual Gifts, 11
~ The Spiritual Gift of Hope ~
Opening Comment ~ “Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. Of His own will He brought us forth by the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of His creatures” (James 1:16-18).
Source Gifts ~ The first of the Construction Sector gifts is Love! Love is the foundationof all our building. The second is faith which provides the framework for our relationship with Christ and the building together with other believers. The third is Hope! The “blessed hope” is from the Architectof our faith as He guarantees the final result.
Hope Looks Forward ~ The great “Hall of Faith” chapter includes this, “These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off were assured of them, embraced them and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. For those who say such things declare plainly that they seek a homeland. And truly if they had called to mind that country from which they had come out, they would have had opportunity to return. But now they desire a better, that is, a heavenly country. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them” (Hebrews 11:13-16).
Scripture ~ The Apostle Peter understood the importance of looking forward, “Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims” (1 Peter 2:11a). It is all too easy for Christians to settle for being tourists on earth rather than pilgrims on their way to their homeland. Meanwhile, on earth we are Christ’s ambassadors. “Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ” (2 Corinthians 5:20a). “Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us” (Romans 5:5).
As we understand our standing and role in Christ it changes us. “Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure” (1 John 3:2-3).
Hope Produces Growth ~ “Rejoice in hope of the glory of God. And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope. Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us” (Romans 5:2b-5).
Comment ~ A good definition of Biblical joy is “a continuing attitude of anticipation.” The early Christians understood that and they just called it “hope.”
Another Scripture ~ “We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers, remembering without ceasing your work of faith, labor of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ in the sight of our God and Father” (1 Thessalonians 1:2-3).
Closing Comments ~ “Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity. Till I come, give attention to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy with the laying on of the hands of the eldership. Meditate on these things; give yourself entirely to them, that your progress may be evident to all. Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you” (1 Timothy 4:12-16).
“Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:6-7).
“As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God” (1 Peter 4:10).

Question – Jesus, 80
~ Regarding Murder ~
Introduction ~ This series is about questions involving Jesus. Some were asked by individuals involved with Jesus Christ while He walked on earth. Others are questions that Jesus Christ asked others. We will look at questions on about 130 topics (some may split into two or more posts). Even so, it is far from an exhaustive list.
Scripture ~ “But when His brothers had gone up, then He also went up to the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret. Then the Jews sought Him at the feast, and said, ‘Where is He?’
“And there was much complaining among the people concerning Him. Some said, ‘He is good’; others said, ‘No, on the contrary, He deceives the people.’ However, no one spoke openly of Him for fear of the Jews.
“Now about the middle of the feast Jesus went up into the temple and taught. And the Jews marveled, saying, ‘How does this Man know letters, having never studied?’
“Jesus answered them and said, ‘My doctrine is not Mine, but His who sent Me. If anyone wills to do His will, he shall know concerning the doctrine, whether it is from God or whether I speak on My own authority. He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory; but He who seeks the glory of the One who sent Him is true, and no unrighteousness is in Him. Did not Moses give you the law, yet none of you keeps the law? Why do you seek to kill Me?’
“The people answered and said, ‘You have a demon. Who is seeking to kill You?’
“Jesus answered and said to them, ‘I did one work, and you all marvel. Moses therefore gave you circumcision (not that it is from Moses, but from the fathers), and you circumcise a man on the Sabbath. If a man receives circumcision on the Sabbath, so that the law of Moses should not be broken, are you angry with Me because I made a man completely well on the Sabbath? Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment’” (John 7:10-24).

God Is My… (Psalms), 50
~ God Is My Defense ~
Introduction ~ Previously from July 16, 2017 through January 6, 2019 ALN posted a series of 60 posts of “Jesus is…,” and now we look exclusively at who “God is…” from the Book of Psalms. While not a complete list these posts occur are in the same order they are in the Psalms.
Passage ~ “My soul, wait silently for God alone, for my expectation is from Him. He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be moved. In God is my salvation and my glory; the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God” (Psalm 62:5-7).

Myth, 85
~ Scientists Don’t Believe In A Creator ~
Myth ~ This myth is propagated by a minority but highly vocal group within the scientific community with an agenda they want to push. In contrast a great many of the world’s best scientific minds have and do believe in a Creator.
Examples ~ The quotes which follow are just a fraction of the beliefs of some of the world’s greatest scientists.
Albert Einstein: “I do see the design of the universe as essentially a religious question, that is, one should have some kind of respect and awe for the whole business. It is very magnificent and shouldn’t be taken for granted.” … “Something deeply hidden had to be behind things.” (The reason Einstein (1879-1955) rejected organizedreligion was that he felt God was not accredited the majesty and awe that He was due. The religions of his day typically did not give proper respect to the Author of Life and Creator of the Universe.)
Werner Heisenberg (the father of Quantum Physics): “The first gulp from the glass of natural sciences may make you an atheist, but at that bottom of the glass, God is waiting for you.”
Lord William Kelvin: “If you study science deep enough and long enough, it will force you to believe in God.”
Dr. John Lennox (Professor of Mathematics, Oxford University): “The more we get to know about our universe, the more the hypothesis about a Creator gains in credibility as the best explanation of why we are here.”
Isaac Newton: “This most beautiful system of the sun, planets, and comets, could only proceed from the counsel and dominion of an intelligent and powerful Being.” … “Gravity explains the motions of the planets, but it cannot explain Who set the planets in motion. God governs all things and knows all that is or can be done.”
Consider This ~ G.K. Chesterton stated: “If there were no God there would be not atheists.” Think about that statement! There are no zealots against the tooth fairy, the Easter bunny, and so forth because most adults know they are not real.
Rational Thinking ~ Who is more irrational? The guy who believes in a God he cannot see or the guy who is offended by a God he doesn’t believe in?
Atheists can admit that automobiles and computers were intelligently designed, but they refuse to admit the human body was!

7 Kingdoms
~ Are You Kingdom Literate? ~
Kingdom of Heaven ~ “In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea, and saying, ‘Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!’” (Matthew 3:1-2).
Kingdom of The Son of Man ~ “But when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was. Then the angel said to her, ‘Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end’” (Luke 1:29-33).
Kingdom of God The Father ~ “But when Jesus was alone, those around Him with the twelve asked Him about the parable. And He said to them, ‘To you it has been given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God; but to those who are outside, all things come in parables, so that “Seeing they may see and not perceive, and hearing they may hear and not understand; lest they should turn, and their sins be forgiven them”’” (Mark 4:10-12).
Kingdom of The Son of God ~ “He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood,* the forgiveness of sins” (Colossians 1:13-14).
Kingdom of Righteousness ~ “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; a scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Your kingdom. You love righteousness and hate wickedness;therefore God, Your God, has anointed Youwith the oil of gladness more than Your companions” (Psalm 45:6-7).
Kingdom of Durability ~ “I make a decree that in every dominion of my kingdom men must tremble and fear before the God of Daniel. For He is the living God,and steadfast forever; His kingdom is the one which shall not be destroyed, and His dominion shall endure to the end” (Daniel 6:26).
Kingdom Everlasting ~ “Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble; for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ’ (2 Peter 1:10-11). “I thought it good to declare the signs and wonders that the Most High God has worked for me. How great are His signs, and how mighty His wonders! His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and His dominion is from generation to generation” (Daniel 4:2-3).

God Our Rock, 1
~ A Great and Perfect Rock ~
Introduction ~ In Matthew 7:24-27 and Luke 6:47-49 Jesus relates the importance of building your house upon rock rather than sand. This principle is even more critical when it comes to our spiritual life. Each post in this series looks at a different Biblical passage which refers to our God as a Rock (not a complete list).
Scripture ~
“Give ear, O heavens, and I will speak; and hear, O earth, the words of my mouth. Let my teaching drop as the rain, my speech distill as the dew, as raindrops on the tender herb, and as showers on the grass. For I proclaim the name of the Lord: ascribe greatness to our God. He is the Rock, His work is perfect; for all His ways are justice, a God of truth and without injustice; righteous and upright is He.
“They have corrupted themselves; they are not His children, because of their blemish: a perverse and crooked generation. Do you thus deal with the Lord, O foolish and unwise people? Is He not your Father, who bought you? Has He not made you and established you?
“Remember the days of old, consider the years of many generations. Ask your father, and he will show you; your elders, and they will tell you: when the Most High divided their inheritance to the nations, when He separated the sons of Adam, He set the boundaries of the peoples according to the number of the children of Israel. For the Lord’s portion is His people; Jacob is the place of His inheritance.
“He found him in a desert land and in the wasteland, a howling wilderness; He encircled him, He instructed him, He kept him as the apple of His eye. As an eagle stirs up its nest, hovers over its young, spreading out its wings, taking them up, carrying them on its wings, so the Lord alone led him, and there was no foreign god with him” (Deuteronomy 32:1-12).
