Guest Author Angel Brown - "The Great X-Cape"

Book Review - The Great X-Cape

We all have grown-up with superheroes: Superman, Batman, the Lone Ranger, Spiderman, and more. Angel Brown has written The Great X-Cape to showcase her Superhero: JESUS, the King of Glory!

After years of donning her own cape, she came to the realization that, in and of ourselves, we are nothing. Jesus is the rightful owner of that "superhero cape" – one that is supernatural, commanding all of our honor, respect and glory that is due Him. During one of the darkest...

The "Abigail Syndrome"

In I Samuel chapters 21 -24, after David had commanded several successful military campaigns, he mercifully spared King Saul's life in a cave in the region of En Gedi.  David then journeyed into the wilderness of Paran following Samuel's death and burial. This is the same Samuel who, under God's direction, had chosen and anointed David as the future King of Israel.

By this time David had already taken Saul's daughter Michal as his wife; a gift from the King to David for a crushing defeat of t...

Independence Day – Freedom is Yours!

Independence Day, commonly known as the Fourth of July, is a celebrated federal holiday commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence. On July 2, 1776 legal separation of the American colonies from the Kingdom of Great Britain occurred, declaring freedom from their tyrannical rule. Afterwards, the Second Continental Congress debated and revised the Declaration, finally approving it on July 4th. Independence Day is commonly associated with fireworks, parades, barbecues...

Lord, Don't You Care? Life's Storms

There are times in your life when a crisis comes and you're left feeling helpless - wondering out loud, "Lord, don't you care?"  Of course, you know He does...but you feel abandoned and disillusioned.  The key is to remember that they are feelings, not reality.  Perception can be the very thing that keeps you from "seeing the Lord at work."
When you cry out to God and say, "Don't You care?" - we often already know the answer…

Let's look at the familiar passage in Mark 4:35-41 (NKJ) -

On the sa...

Father Knows Best

Father's Day is approaching and I'd like to send a "shout out" to our son for a "Happy Father's Day". This will be his first Father's Day since becoming a Dad last October to a beautiful little girl. This is a picture   of them that I will treasure forever. What a wonderful thing to see your children become parents, and then you observe the tenderness, love and care they exhibit as they cradle their child – your grandchild, for the very first time.  I was blessed and privileged to be present ...

There's No Place Like Home…

While flying back across the ocean from our vacation, I was peering out of the window of the Boeing 767 we were on from an altitude of about 32,000 feet. Sandwiched there between two layers of clouds, I felt like I could step directly into the heavenly realm, right there and then. The sun glistened off of the billowing peaks, as though they were great marshmallow mountains. There was a peaceful serenity as we glided through their expanse. As I surveyed the enormity of the never-ending horizon...

Enter My Rest

God is my shepherd! I don't need a thing. You have bedded me down in lush meadows; you find me quiet pools to drink from. True to your word, you let me catch my breath and send me in the right direction. Even when the way goes through Death Valley, I'm not afraid when you walk at my side. Your trusty shepherd's crook makes me feel secure.  You serve me a six-course dinner right in front of my enemies. you revive my drooping head; my cut brims with blessings. Your beauty and love chase after...

A Portrait of Motherhood

Mother's Day is the perfect time to take a look at how God's Word views motherhood. Maybe it's because I am a new grandmother that I view these biblical portraits more personally. Watching my daughter-in-law with my new granddaughter brings back so many memories of my son as an infant. The Bible, in many places, attributes motherly qualities to God. The ancient prophets often used metaphors of mothers to portray God's fidelity and love. Isaiah describes God as a loving mother Who had carried ...
