Please 'splain?

Let's say there's a girl (G) who has a boyfriend (B).  And it is the belief of B's friends that certain intimate things go on between G and B.  And it's all kinds of shocking or hilarious or whatever because B has always been shy with girls and the last person anyone would have expected to be getting any of anything.  So then B breaks up with G and she is totally devastated.

What exactly would make B's friends decide that one of their new pastimes will be sexually harassing this girl?  ...

Humilations Galore!

Jody Sparks has a fabulous blog which includes a feature called "Self-Deprecating Sunday."  There, she posts new pictures each week of herself and other YA writer volunteers (including Tenners Josh Berk and C.J. Omololu) as teens.

So much awkwardness!  So much hilarity!

Today the featured author on Jody's blog is . . . me!  And let me tell you, I am looking fabulous at age 13 in my stretch jeans, braces and swoopy bangs.

What?  You don't believe me?  Click here for the tragic evidence!  Dare...

You guys! I HAVE A WEBSITE!

As of this past Monday, there is exactly six months until FREEFALL comes out.  (Six months??!!!)
This seems like a good a time to officially announce my website:   mindiscott.com

The site was designed by the talented (and patient!) Vicki with Swank Web Style using photography from my January shoot with Brittney Bush Bollay.  I'm so very happy with how it turned out!

You can read lots of revealing stuff About Me.  I'm not quite finished putting in all the content; it's a work in progress for some...

The arrival of FREEFALL's Advance Reviewer's Copy.

I got a package yesterday.  It was a large, padded envelope that had been ripped open, stapled shut again, and labeled like so:

I'm sorry, too, The Postal Service. I'm sorry, too.

You see, said "damage" to my article resulted in me receiving the Simon & Schuster Fall catalog (yay!) and just one ARC in the envelope instead of the two ARCs that my editor sent me (boo!).

I'm going to assume that since no one could have guessed the contents, they didn't intentionally mutilate the package in order ...

Random Wednesday updates. (It is Wednesday, right?)

1.  This is the last day of the March Madness Writing Challenge.  My goal was to write 25 scenes before the end of March.  I made that goal!  I actually wrote 26 scene and did some development work, too.  Thanks, [info:] denisejaden  , for organizing and motivating!

2.  My ARCs are coming!  My ARCs are coming!  I'm only getting two, so I won't be able to share.  But, yes, bound galleys for FREEFALL do exist and I'll be gazing at them in person.  I'll post pics as soon as they arrive.  :-)

3.  I had a dr...

The Book Scout is doing a YA Author/Pets contest.  There are pictures of animals posted as well as a list of YA authors.  Whoever matches the most pets with their YA author will win some really great prizes!

Check it out here.  There are lots of little cuties on there, including one of the animals who lives with me!

First pass pages.

I received my first pass pages on Tuesday.  I let Dwayne read the acknowledgments for the first time and I cried a little and he cried a little and then we went out to dinner because what else were we going to do on First Pass Page Day?

For those of you who don't know, the pass pages are unbound, but they show exactly what the printing will look like on the pages of the final book.  I've been reading books for all but the first four years of my life (and even then I was always looking at pict...

AUTHOR EVENTS: Kimberly Derting's launch and Carrie Ryan's signing.

I had a pretty busy day yesterday.  I visited family out of town and spent time with my niece, Ella:

Later in Tacoma, Ella and I had lunch with my husband, sister, mom, and grandma.   Then a few of us headed to Borders for Kimberly Derting's THE BODY FINDER launch party.  She did a short talk and reading, and there was a great turnout!  Mandy Hubbard and Phoebe Kitanidis (author of the forthcoming WHISPER) were there as well.

Here's Phoebe and me waiting in line to get our books signed:

And he...

The language of cats.

I've been living with the same four cats for eight years.  I have to tell you, I am completely fed up with their refusal to speak English.

Authorities on the subject of cat psychology and whatnot say that when cats relieve themselves in places they aren't supposed to (meaning anywhere except the litter box or outside), they are trying to tell you something.  Maybe they're sick.  Or they have an infection.  Or they don't like the brand of cat litter you bought.  Or they want you to scoop said...
