Leprechauns Versus Vampires
Did you know that vampires versus werewolves was over? I didn't. Apparently the new hot rivalry is vampires versus leprechauns. I mean, it makes a certain amount of sense. Vampires sparkle much like the pot of gold does, right? Maybe the leprechauns are having performance anxiety on behalf of their gold, which isn't as sparkly as it used to be. Or maybe those vampires are height-ists, and have suppressed leprechaun rights for hundreds of years. Or maybe, just maybe, there is something ...

So I Almost Died Last Week…
…but remarkably I survived.
Gather round, everyone, and let Uncle Scott tell you a tale. A tale of mystery. Of enchantment. Of the not ONE but TWO near-death experiences I had while on "vacation" last week.
My friend Leah and I had to go to Colorado for the wedding of our friends Erin and Phil. Now, this is a heartwarming tale, I'm sure, but trust me, there is danger on the horizon. Leah and Scott decided to drive. Why? Because it's cheaper. Also, because road trips, under the right...

Listen to WITCH EYES Playlist
So I'm a huge music person. I have to have playlists for everything – every character usually has a theme song, important parts of the novel have their own playlist (like action sections, or dramatic moments). And I thought it would be kind of fun to show a little insight into the kinds of songs that were on repeat a lot when I was working on WITCH EYES.
Right about now, I'm probably somewhere in the middle of Colorado Springs, missing my safe little apartment in Ohio. Pray for me!

I Should Be Packing
But instead, I'm blogging. That makes a whole lot of sense, right? Well, I'm getting ready to leave for Colorado tonight, which promises to epic* and awesome** on all fronts. But first! I vlogged. Our topic on the Rebels this week was on how we develop characters, tips and tricks and how we come at it. My analogy? I flesh out my characters like I'm casting the Real World. (Hey, don't give me that look. I could have said Jersey Shore). So check out my video, maybe leave me a...

Where Inspiration Comes From
We talked about inspiration a few weeks ago in the YA Rebels, but I was thinking of a more immediate example. Since I started a new project last week – to fill the void between edits – I started gathering together my bits of inspiration. It's a thing I do. And I try to take it from everywhere: it's not just a picture or a movie or an idea, it becomes a little bit of everything all at once.
New Idea actually came from two ideas blended together. I was doing research on a few certain myths t...

The Thrill of the New
My edits have been turned in, and I'm working on a new project until the next round comes in. But see, here's my problem with writing. The one thing that makes my life a living hell, when I need to work on writing a book, or revising a book, or any one of the thousand other things that go into this life.
I'm in love with being in love.
See, its simple. No idea is as beautiful (as shiny, if you will), as that Next Idea. It hasn't been tainted by your tendency to use big words, awkward...

Teaser Tuesday
I'm cheating. I don't normally post Teaser Tuesdays, but I wanted something easy to post this week while I worked on other projects. This is from a new project, one that I JUST started this weekend (aka after my edits were done).

Emory had spent the break in Mexico. Everyone I knew, even my best friend Nico, had left the city. Going away for break is just what you do when you go to school with billion-heirs. It's a fact of life. But for...

Its Napping Time!
This week's theme for the YA Rebels was 'a voiceover-slash-day in the life'. So I showed you a little bit of what my morning routine is like. You can check the video out below (and come on, I have to at least get more views than LEAH).
I'm finishing up my edits this weekend, getting ready to start one last readthrough before I turn them in. (Early, might I add). There is nothing worse than getting to the almost-ending, realizing you have to rewrite this minor little scene because you...

Oh Lost (Subtitle: Waaaaaalt!)
Warning: there be spoilers here. Mr. Eko saved Lost for me.
No, really.
See, I watched the finale last night (AFTER I worked on my edits, in case my editor is reading this). And I was prepared to hate it. I HATED the BSG finale, after all. HATED. Seething amounts of hatred. And since I'd given up on getting any REAL answers out of Lost, I was prepared for it to be over. I just hoped the finale didn't make me hate the series.
I watched it. And I was conflicted. Very conflicted. The...

Friday Randoms
So I owe a real blog post, but edits and other things have EATEN MY BRAIN this week.
First, that thing you have to write that is similar to an outline and also summarizes your book? It was decided by Twitter this week that the proper form of that word is synopsi. Technically, that would be the plural of synopsis, but I don't think synopsis quite conveys the amount of evil that synopsi does. Synopsi sounds like something slithery, like something that has tentacles, or tentacles with those...
