Imaginary Friends Are Imaginary

Someone reminded me about my imaginary friend the other day, and it got me to thinking.  Most kids have at least one imaginary friend when they're growing up, right?  So here's mine.

When we moved into our first "real" house I was five or six.  It was just my mom and me, no dad to speak of, and it was the first house we actually owned.  Someone, either a relative or a friend of my mom's bought me this giant anthropomorphic dog named Henry.  Henry was about my height (so figure about 3 feet...

"Your mom is fictional."

Another week, another video for the Rebels.  This week we talked about villains – favorite villains, favorite villain lines, what makes a good villain, etc etc etc.

I had a pretty clear vision of what I was doing for this week.  It was simple.  Creepy intro.  Lots of talk about villains.  Skits with my supervillain alter-ego (who never DOES get named, although he is apparently the chief emissary for a very powerful, very evil demonic force outside our world).

Normally, when we shoot a vlog...

I Know Exactly What You're Thinking

The bright side to writing your blog posts well in advance is that you don't have to think about blogging for days and days.  And then you have something you want to say, and you forget what it's like to actually WRITE a blog post all in one sitting.  That would be today.

So what's been going on in my life this week?

I've been tackling things on my To Do list all week, and I've gotten down to what I think are the last 4 "main" items that need taken care of soon.  Two of which are relating to...

10 Things – We Hardly Knew Ye

Okay, I'll admit it.  I was one of those people who openly scoffed at the idea of my beloved 10 Things I Hate About You being turned into a television show on ABC Family.

And then my sister made me sit down and watch the first season of the show on DVD with her.  Its hard to compare the tv show to the classic movie of a generation, and there's no way Heath Ledger's place can ever be taken, but its not like that, I swear.  It's like the movie's much younger, much funnier sibling has finally...

To Do List Hell

So I've had a lot of things creep up in the last week that I really need to finish for a number of reasons.  There's book stuff, there's apartment (and general life stuff), and then upcoming June trip to Colorado that I have to get prepped for.  So I got the bright idea to write a To Do list.

This was a bad idea.

Let me run you through the process of what writing a To Do list is like for me.

Start with all things that need to be done soon (i.e. you know there's a deadline attached).Add in...

Slacking Blogger

About twenty minutes ago, I had an epiphany.  It wasn't even one of those awesome, life changing epiphanies.  My epiphany went something like this:

Oh wow, its Thursday.  Wait….is it Thursday?  It can't be Thursday.  If its Thursday, that means the week is almost over.  And there's no way the week is almost over.  So it can't be Thursday.  But it is.  The computer and the internet are telling me so.

Whoa. (Total Keanu Reeves moment)

So yes, I have been a slacking blogger.  I started writing two ...

Inspiration and annoying wind.

This week on the YA Rebels we talk about inspiration.  What inspires you, who inspires you.  So I go to abandoned buildings and into the middle of nowhere to bring you the hard hitting journalism you've come to known and love.

Or okay, I wander around trying to come up with good examples that help me make a good video.  Or at least give me something to be sarcastic about. ;)

Edits are like…

Because I've been jumping back into WITCH EYES over the last month, I've been constantly thinking about edits, and making comparisons. Edits are kind of like fruit. Edits are kind of like Ford. Edits are kind of like oh crud did I forget to pay the phone bill? No? Oh, I did? Whew.

Then this morning, it hit me.  Your novel is like a  house.  Edits, in all their different forms, are upgrades to that house.

The Massive Changes – There are cracks in the foundation, the wiring needs to be...

Happy Town Makes Me Sad

So tomorrow night, Happy Town will debut on ABC. And I'll admit it, I'm already addicted. I haven't even watched the show yet, and I can guarantee I'll be watching it until either the conclusion, or the more likely cancellation.

If you haven't heard, Happy Town is fairly formulaic. Small town, all the usual "locals" you'd come to expect. But this town has been dealing with a serial kidnapper/killer (I'm not exactly clear on which it is, or if both apply) called the "Magic Man." Only...
