The journey of the book
The story of how these books are coming to the public has been a case-in-point example of how modern book publishing has shifted.
I started the process with a simple idea, formed with a few of my buddies, about the story of David's Mighty Men being brought to the page in a Braveheart/Band of Brothers/300 way. I didn't pursue the traditional publishing options of seeking an agent or submitting manuscripts to publishers (which would have been ignored, anyway).
Instead, I wrote the story and went ...

Stop fragging your buddies
It's been terrible to watch the different camps in Christianity cannibalize each other. On the right are those who think that any innovation in theological thought or implementation of new methods of ministry must be prayed for in that "Oh, we need to pray for them" sort of way. On the left are the slacker Jack Kerouac-types who think that after four years of college (real college, mind you, not those ridiculous "Christian Universities") and countless hours sipping expensive coffee with their...

Remembering you are a cog in the wheel
Sometimes there are times when God gently and lovingly reminds you that you are simply one small part of his cosmic movements. As a proud, red-blooded American by-the-bootstraps male, this can cause a tough reaction on my part.
Have you ever worked on something and had to release it? To trust God with the results when it gets into the hands of others? This can be especially sneaky when everything is going well. I'm thankful for good, gentle reminders that I am not the final say in matters, but...

DAY OF WAR is not available
I saw that the older version is still linked on Amazon, but the book is not available anymore. It is technically out of print, and it will be re-released through the new publisher next year. Just wanted to answer the questions.

Doing what matters
I was recently reading about Nate Henn, the Invisible Children worker who was killed in a terrorist attack in Uganda. It was troubling to see a young man devoting his life to the aid and assistance of others be so ruthlessly slaughtered.
I think what I am doing has lasting impact and is what I am supposed to be doing, but I can't help but wonder when I read stories like Nate's if my life is really counting for something. He was a sold-out pursuer of the good (not sure where he was at with God,...

Branding is not for cattle
I had a great conversation with the publisher and movie team today, and it made me think of some things that I really wanted to emphasize from the beginning of this whole project.
In the "branding" of this series, one thing that we all want to emphatically push is that the vision for this series of books and films is to re-approach how mainstream audiences view the Bible. Not reinvent the Bible or make it relevant (it's eternal--of course it's relevant) or anything goofy like that, but to simp...

No I have not fallen off the world
I've been traveling a lot the past few months and my regular blogging has fallen by the wayside. I'm still not going to be able to update as much as I would like, but hopefully things will settle a bit.
I spent the past week at a Fellowship of Christian Athletes camp in Spearfish, SD. Great program, great ministry, it was really neat to see all of those young people come together and match up the desire to serve Christ with the desire to excel in sports.
I was a huddle leader, sort of a camp co...

Looks like DAY OF WAR is still on Amazon
This would be the last available place until the new and improved book is released next year. Once their stock is sold out, it's gone until 2011.
