This Writing Thing

You think you can give up on it, but you really can't.

This Writing Thing is part of you now.

You think after this one, you will be quitting for good. But you'll come back. You always come back to start another plot, another amazing character, another potential bestseller. It's like an ache, a rash, hunger. It never ends. Not when you're still young, and you don't have a family. You're like a helpless duck who just discovered she could swim. You want to try this new talent. You want to try it again.

But sorry, no one cares that much about what you have or do. Yes, they are interested. But not in the way you think they should. If you stop writing, I promise you, there are one million of your kind starting out. So, I'm sorry to say, you are not that important. Sorry, it's coming from me, and sorry, it hurts for you to hear. But I know one thing for sure: one way or another, one thing is going to kill the other. Either this talent pushes you to start 'killing it' as a writer or drives you to the point where you don't want to live anymore.

But you have the power, all the same.

SO, bleed here on the page. Coonect your hunger into your pen. Put down --- in words --- all those weirdness and crazy ideas about ghosts, gargoyles, demons with horns or psychopaths obsessed with black women. Put it all down. Bleed on the page.

I wish you all the best, mate.

Sincerely, another writer.

And I hope you make the right choice.

Too Many Stories, Too Little Time

It seems the last of them is always my favorite.

Last time, when I published Devil's Ex-fiancee, I said that was my best. Then, I wrote Jamaican Flower, and I said the same thing.

This is my best, too... Or this is my best for now.

Quickly, I started working on my next one, though, at the moment, I haven't written a single word in the next book. I'm still fleshing out the plot and getting to know the main characters.

I have a lot of stories in me, and they make me restless. I wish I could pour them out pretty fast. Nevertheless, I'm glad I can't. How much will I enjoy it if I can write it all out at once?

The joy of writing is in many folds, after all --- exploring the characters is like going on an adventure with friends, getting to know these strangers in your head, and finally pushing the book out, reluctantly, and hoping for the best.

Onto the next.
