Cons and book launch and stuff.
I’m not much of a conventioneer. I feel lost in the big ones, but I do like local cons, and I have three coming up this fall. First and very soon, is When Words Collide (August 8-10th, Calgary Alberta), where Edge Books will launch my new SF,Wildcatter. Then there’s V-Con (Vancouver, BC, September 28-30). And to complete the hat-trick, Orycon (Portland OR, November 2-4th) where (as I may have mentioned) When the Saints just happens to be a finalist for the Endeavour Award. That ought to see me conventioned out for quite a while. I hope to see you somewhere there. Buttonhole me and say you read it here.

Always a bridesmaid…
I have just learned that When the Saints has been declared a finalist in the 2012 Endeavour Award. So I shall certainly have to go to Orycon in Portland, Oregon, this year — again. But that is never a hard decision. I have been short-listed for that award twice before and enjoyed my visits both times. Third time lucky?

Going Wholesale
I am extremely happy to report that my agent, Richard Curtis, has arranged for the sale of twenty-seven (27!) of my titles to be issued in audio editions by Audible, the world’s largest audio publisher. As well as the normal satisfaction of knowing that my work will be more widely available, this arrangement gives me a guilt-free kick from the fact that it may reach out to many people who could not otherwise enjoy my stories. By coincidence, I have just started the complicated process of acquiring hearing aids.

I’m back!
I’m back, and not just from vacation. That was a month ago, but my experience is that for every day you stay away you need two to catch up when you get back. More important, this webpage is back up. It got hacked by some idiot educated beyond his intelligence, and we moved it to another host.
What’s new? Well, HarperCollins has started a month-long e-book promotion which includes my novel THE GILDED CHAIN. That’s the first of my “King’s Blades” series, which eventually ran to seven books. If you don’t know those stories, you now have a chance to buy the e-book for $3.28 on Kindle. The same deal doesn’t seem to be available in other formats, but I’d be happy to hear if someone finds it.
Enjoy!

Out of Office
I’m heading over to the Auld Sod for a couple of weeks, the first time I’ve been back there in about twenty years. I shall visit both Scotland and England, returning May 9th. Until then, I shall try to stay in touch, but postings on this site may be delayed a day or two if the Dei In Machina decide to run them by me for approval. I have a couple of stories in mind that need some local color.

At Last!
The Death of Nnanji, Book 4 of “The Seventh Sword” series, is now available in e-book and POD, on Amazon.com. Other outlets should have it up within a couple of days. The original trilogy, published in 1989, was the most popular thing I ever wrote. If you are not familiar with it, I suggest you start at the beginning, with The Reluctant Swordsman, because the new book will act as a spoiler to all that has gone before.

Change of Plan
My Speak to the Devil came out in May 2010 and the sequel, When the Saints in November 2011. I thought the first paperback would be out this year, but Tor has decided to issue both as a single omnibus volume to be entitled The Speaker and the Saints, probably in February 2013. I like the omnibus idea, as the story is continuous. Sorry for the extended wait, of course.

BusyYear!
I was very happy to hear this morning that 47North is sufficiently happy with Against the Light to pick up its option on my two-part fantasy series, "The Starfolk. Publication will probably begin near the end of the year.
That makes five books due out in 2012: Against the Light in January:
The Death of Nnanji, Book 4 of "The Seventh Sword" in April from E-Reads
Wildcatter, an SF original from Edge Booksellers, in August
Speak to the Devil, paperback reprint of my 2010 hardcover, in September from Tor, and
King of Swords, Book One of "The Starborn" TBA.
I haven't decided what to do for an encore….
