Applying Afrofuturism Workshop in Chicago, Jul. 19th
Great news for loves of sci fi, tech, and all things Afrofuturism! Ytasha L. Womack ,author of Afrofuturism: The World of Black Sci Fi and Fantasy Culture and Rayla 2212, will be hosting an Applying Afrofuturism Workshop on Saturday July 19, at 10 am to Noon. The registration fee for the event is $18 and includes a free autographed copy of Rayla 2212 Hope to see you there!

2014 Winter Babies Revenge in Chicago
Great news for house music fans and cosplay lovers. The Winter Babies Revenge Costume/Deep House Party kicks off in Chicago on Saturday, Jul. 12, at Insit Studio. Dhe-Di will be hosting the party while Ytasha L. Womack, author of Afrofuturism: The World of Black Sci Fi and Fantasy Culture and Rayla 2212 will be the co-host. This event celebrates Chicago’s Deep House Culture and costumes are mandatory. Hope to see you there!

Black Age in Comics at DuSable Museum, Jul. 12-13
DuSable Museum celebrates their 40th Annual Arts & Craft Festival, Saturday July 12 and Sunday, July 13. The Black Age in Comics which was founded by Turtel Onli will have a featured tent at the festival. Afrofuturism and Rayla 2212 author Ytasha L. Womack and Illustrator Ashley Woods will be onsite selling and signing their work. Copies of Rayla 2212 and Afrofuturism book will be available as well as posters and artbook. Afrofuturism Author speaks at Oak Park Library, Jul. 10
Great news fans of sci f and book lovers. Afrofuturism author Ytasha L. Womack and Bill Campbell, founder of Rosarium publishing and editor of the anthology Mothership: Tales from Afrofuturism & Beyond will be speaking at the Oak Park Library. This is the first time discussion with Womack and Campbell discussing the literary genre. hope to see you there!

Afrofuturism on London Radio Show
Ytasha Womack’s book Afrofuturism: The World of Black Sci Fi and Fantasy Culture inspired Art Terry, host of Is Black Music radio show to do a show dedicated to the topic. On June 11th the show aired on Resonance FM and includes rare music by Sun Ra, The Temptations, Janelle Monae, as well as excerpts from the book Afrofuturism. Did you miss the interview #BlerdChat had with Ytasha Womack, author of Afrofuturism: The World of Black Sci Fi and Fantasy Culture and Rayla 2212? Recently, #BlerdChat spoke with the author about her work in the genre of Afrofuturism. Womack said that, “Afrofuturism differs from traditional SF in that it has a black cultural lens and has a unique perspective on time.” Rayla Illmatic, the heroine of the Rayla 2212 series was also interviewed and explained the story behind Planet Hope. “Planet Hope began as Earth’s greatest space colony. It was an experiment in creating utopia,” said Illmatic.

The historic MoonDance event featured the best in Afrofuturist beat composition with dance, a lively panel discussion and more. The affair was curated by producer and deejay King Britt. Performances included Hank Shocklee, HPrizm, Ursula Rucker, and Ras G to name a few. Ytasha Womack author of Afrofuturism moderated a discussion on Afrofuturism which included Dr. Alondra Nelson.
