MoonDance Afrofuturism Event at MoMA PS1
It was an amazing experience! Last Sunday some of the most brilliant minds gathered at the MoMA PS1 for the MoonDance event to discuss afrofuturism. Performances included Hank Schocklee, HPrizm, spoken word artist, Ursula Rucker,and Ras G to name a few. Ytasha Womack author of Afrofuturism moderated an afrofuturism discussion along with Dr. Alondra Nelson, Columbia University professor, Ursula Rucker, King Britt, and Hank Shocklee.

Afrofuturism Author at Columbia College Chicago, April 19
On Saturday April 19th, Columbia College hosts the Columbia Geek Culture Gala. Come check out the panel on Afrofuturism and Diversity in Science Fiction panel with Columbia College professors Greg Baldino, Adrian Nelson and Afrofuturism author Ytasha L. Womack. The event will be held at Columbia College Chicago, 1104 S. Wabash, Rm 801B (Charizard Room) at 11:55 am. Hope to see you there!

Afrofuturism author at Octavia Butler event
Ytasha Womack (l) and Krista Franklin (r) at Adrienne Maree Brown’s (c) lecture on Octavia Butler and Emergent Strategies. Adrienne studied Butler’s work and devised new paradigms for activism and organizational structures. The event took place at Washington Park Incubator in Chicago on April 1.

Marc Steiner Show
Last week the Marc Steiner Show did their monthly Arts and Culture segment with Lea Gilmore, Emerging Media’s Cultural Editor and world-renowned Gospel and Blues singer. Also during the show Steiner discussed Afrofuturism with Blaqstarr the Baltimore based producer, DJ, and singer; Camae Defstar , aka Moor Mother Goddess, poet, MC, singer and producer; and Ytasha Womack, author, filmmaker, dancer, and futurist. Womack is the author of Afrofuturism: The World of Black Sci Fi and Fantasy the book closely examines black sci fi culture, black comixs, and the legacy of futurism.

MOONDANCE: A Night in the AfroFuture at MoMA PS1, April 13
Moondance
MOONDANCE: A night in the Afrofuture is a one of a kind celebration of blackness in future contexts. Curated by DJ/producer King Britt, the event is divided into three parts lecture, dance and music. The journey takes place Sunday, April 13 at MoMA PS1, 22-25 Jackson Ave, Long Island City, New York , Noon to 6 pm.
Performances include live deejay showcases and beat composition by innovative DJ/producers Shabazz Palaces, Fhloston Paradigm featuring Pia Ercole, HPrizm and Ras G. Spoken word artist Ursula Rucker will perform as well.
Afrofuturism author Ytasha L. Womack; Dr. Alondra Nelson, author of Body and Soul; and producing innovator Hank Shocklee of Public Enemy are the scheduled speakers for the evening. The lectures will highlight Afrofuturism and its role in transforming cultures.
D. Sabela Grimes, interdisciplinary choreographer will showcase the influence of Afrofuturism in Dance.
The event is part of MoMA PS1′s Sunday Sessions.
