October 21st ~ Election Update

These updates are an accompaniment to my book The 2016 Presidential Election. As promised I will keep things short and concise so that you can stay up-to-date without taking too much time out of your day.


Recent Election News


Second and Third Presidential Debates Took Place


~        On Sunday October 9th the second Presidential debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump took place at Washington University in Missouri.


~        On Wednesday October 19th the third debate took place at University of Nevada in Nevada.


~        The two opponents sparred on various issues including homeland security, the economy, and the future direction of the country.


~        In the second debate side issues that were discussed included the Trump video that was recently leaked, and the suitably of Trump’s temperament to be President.


~        Trump brought up the issue of Bill Clinton’s history of sexual assault allegations, and attacked Hillary Clinton for the way she handled these situations.


~        In the third debate one hot topic was the US Supreme Court, with Trump’s priorities being pro-life and upholding the second amendment, while Clinton talked about women’s rights and LGBT rights.


Coming Up…


Election Day Is Just a Couple of Weeks Away


~        Advance voting is already underway in several states.


~        Tuesday November 8th will be the official day of the General Election.

October 7th 2016 ~ Election Update

These updates are an accompaniment to my book The 2016 Presidential Election. As promised I will keep things short and concise so that you can stay up-to-date without taking too much time out of your day.


Recent Election News


First Presidential Debate Took Place


~        On Monday September 26th the first Presidential debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump took place at Hofstra University in New York.


~        They discussed their positions on various issues including homeland security, the economy, and the future direction of the country.


~        Side issues that were discussed included Trump attacking Clinton for not having fixed more problems in her 30 years in office.


~        Trump was questioned about his income taxes and about his pressing on the issue of President Barack Obama’s birth certificate.


Vice Presidential Debate Took Place


~        On Monday October 4th the first Presidential debate between Republican Mike Pence and Democrat Tim Kaine took place at Longwood University in Virginia.


~        Kaine questioned Pence on Trump issues such as his failure to disclose income tax returns, praise for Russian President Vladimir Putin, and his endorsement of the spread of nuclear weapons.


~        In turn Kaine was questioned about Clinton’s use of a private e-mail server while she was Secretary of State and about foreign donations to the Clinton Foundation.


Coming Up…


Second Presidential Debate to Take Place


~        On Sunday October 9th the second Presidential debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump will take place at Washington University in Missouri.


~        This town hall-style debate will be moderated by CNN’s Anderson Cooper and ABC’s Martha Raddatz.

September 9th 2016 ~ Election Update

These updates are an accompaniment to my book The 2016 Presidential Election. As promised I will keep things short and concise so that you can stay up-to-date without taking too much time out of your day.


Recent Election News


US Warns Russia against Election Interference


~        On Wednesday Defense Secretary Ashton B. Carter spoke at Oxford University in England.


~        During his speech he accused Russian President Vladimir V. Putin of showing a “clear ambition to erode” international order.


~        He warned that Washington “will not ignore attempts to interfere with our democratic processes” and that Russia should stay out of the US elections.


~        These comments come after Russian intelligence agencies allegedly breached the Democratic National Committee’s computer, and amidst fresh allegations of hacking state election systems.


Advance Voting Begins in Some States


~        Advance voting begins Friday September 9th in North Carolina.


~        NC residents can now submit absentee ballots by mail.


~        The rules for absentee voting vary by state; some require an excuse while others don’t.


~        NC residents will be allowed to vote at polling booths starting October 20th.


~        More information about the states that allow advance voting can be found here.


~        It is expected that, in certain states, advance votes could make up to 75 per cent of ballots.

US Warns Russia against Election Interference

Recent Election News


Clinton Denies Foundation Donor Influence


~        Recent reports have suggested that Hillary Clinton gave special treatment to Clinton Foundation donors during her time at the State Department.


~        A report published by the Associated Press showed that Clinton did meet with donors at that time.


~        Clinton’s rival Donald Trump used the report as supposed evidence that Clinton “sold favors and access”.


~        Clinton has insisted that her “work as Secretary of State was not influenced by any outside forces”.


Trump and Clinton Continue to Exchange Accusations


~        Trump and Clinton have been exchanging accusations of bigotry.


~        Clinton has denounced Trump as a bigot who has taken advantage of racial resentment to further himself in the race.


~        She claims he has “built his campaign on prejudice” and encouraged “race-baiting, anti-Muslim, and anti-immigrant ideas”.


~        In turn, Trump has accused Clinton of bigotry and has aid that she is “extremely bad for African-Americans” and “extremely bad for Hispanics”.


~        In addition to the comments, both campaigns have released attack ads surmounting to accusing the opposition of racism.

August 12th 2016 ~ Election Update

Recent Election News


Leadership Shakeup within the Democratic National Committee


~        The eve of the Democratic National Convention was marred by an e-mail leak that revealed that the party had always favored Hillary Clinton over Bernie Sanders in the primary race.


~        The e-mails also included disparaging remarks regarding Sanders.


~        It remains unknown who hacked into the servers and leaked the e-mails.


~        The embarrassing public reveal prompted the CEO of the Democratic National Committee and several top staffers to resign on August 2nd.


Trump Comments Continue to Cause Controversy


~        Donald Trump continues to have the media in a frenzy over various remarks.


~        This week he made comments to supporters which appeared to encourage them to use their gun rights against Democratic nominee Clinton.


~        Most recently he has accused Clinton and President Barack Obama of being the “founders” of ISIS.


~        Trump has been blasted by Democrats and some fellow-Republicans for “trash-talking” the US and encouraging violence.


Top Republicans Pledge to Vote For Clinton


~        The Republican Party divide has become more apparent as top Republicans are pledging to vote against Trump in the upcoming election.


~        Rep Richard Hanna of New York was the first congressional Republican to announce he would vote for Clinton.


~        Other high-profile Republicans have joined together to form a group called ‘Republicans for Clinton 2016’.


~        This group is actively recruiting other Republicans to support Clinton.

August 3rd 2016 ~ Election Update

Recent Election News


Democratic National Convention Held


~        The Democratic National Convention was held July 25th – 28th in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.


~        During the convention it was made official that Hillary Clinton is the Democratic nominee for the upcoming General Election.


~        Chelsea Clinton was praised for her speech that “humanized” Hillary Clinton.


~        Bill Clinton also spoke about his wife in a well-received speech.


~        Hillary Clinton closed the convention with a speech that focused on reiterating her track record as someone who delivers on policies.


Trump Caused Outrage with Comments about a Convention Attendee


~        Khizr Kahn and his wife Ghazala Kahn are the parents of American soldier, Capt. Humayan Kahn, who was killed in Iraq.


~        Khizr Kahn, accompanied on stage by his wife, made a well-received speech at the Democratic National Convention, during which he heavily criticized Trump.


~        Afterwards Trump made comments wondering why Ghazala Kahn did not speak, questioning whether she was allowed to speak.


~        These comments, which appeared to be in reference to their Muslim religion, caused outrage among both Democrats and Republicans.


More Divide in the Republican Party


~        Trump has refused to endorse House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senator John McCain who are up for re-election.


~        In reference to endorsing Ryan he has stated he is “just not quite there yet”.


~        As for McCain, Trump says he believes he should have done more for veterans after being a soldier in the Vietnam War.


~        Both Ryan and McCain have publicly endorsed Trump for President but both have also criticized him in the past.


President Barack Obama Claims Donald Trump Is Unfit To Be President


~        Speaking from the White House on Tuesday August 2nd Obama said he believed Trump to be “unfit to serve” as President.


~        He stated that he is “woefully unprepared” for the role and wonders why his party was still behind him.


~        He claimed that the party is criticizing Trump for his actions and comments but at the same time still endorsing him.
