Two More audio Books Out!

A couple of audio books went live over the weekend. First, my magical novella, The Last Observer, is now available on audio book masterfully read by Darren Marlar. Secondly, The Black eyed Kids is also out and is also read by Darren.

The supernatural hit series of My Haunted Life books is now available in audiobook format and all are read by the masterful Alan Philip Ormond. The series includes My Haunted Life, My Haunted Life Too and My Haunted Life 3 as well as the Extreme edition – a compilation of all three books with two bonus stories for extra value. She Is still Out There

Back in the 70’s and early 80’s, I was still playing guitar with various bands. I don’t know why I stopped really as it was tremendous fun. I was also writing a lot of songs and in one instance was asked to write songs for amateur dramatics version of a play. Anyway, recently I bought a new guitar and thought I’d play around with garageband. She’s out there is a song I wrote in 1979 would you believe….

It Is Time For Amazon to Get Tough On Spoof Negative Reviews

I can only assume that someone somewhere doesn’t like me or any modicum of small success that I may have with my books. I say this because I have a string of 1-star reviews on Amazon UK that suddenly popped up across several of my books in a short period. Each is by ‘Amazon Customer’. Each Amazon Customer has done exactly one review – my book. Each review is unverified meaning they didn’t buy the book on Amazon – so where then? They are only available on Amazon! Each has a comment ranging from ‘Shite’ to something about poor editing. Some of these reviews were posted by someone who hasn’t read the book as the comment specifics bear no relationship to the content of the book. Perhaps, you can buy these on Fiverr? You know, sling mud at a competing author with bad reviews – $5?

It is time for Amazon to stop accepting unverified reviews. It is time for amazon to be equally suspicious over 1 star reviews as it is over 5 star reviews apparently.

On the other hand, reviews help – even 1 star reviews. Some folks read books just to see what the review was all about.

Maybe I am over sensitive? I don’t mind bad reviews from genuine readers – I just dislike these obvious attempts to destroy the sales of a book.

What I Like About Audio Book Publishing

Yesterday, I reached a new milestone with just over 700 audiobooks sold in the 12-months since I launched the first. There is an audience for audiobooks and it is a bit different to the ebook and paperback audience. Today, another book from my back catalog became available as an audiobook – My Haunted Life 3 – and several more are in production including the Extreme edition of the My Haunted Life series, The Last Observer and my latest Kindle book – The Black Eyed Kids. The monthly sales royalties for audiobooks also have helped move my earnings into reasonable territory. I can now safely say that my royalties exceed $6000pa from all sources and growing. Audiobooks have been a large part of that.

Audiobooks are fun to put together too. Amazon via Audible is the way I went. You can basically set up a book and find a voice for it very easily. The royalty rate isn’t as high as I would like especially when you chose to split royalties with the voice talent, but it is still interesting. If you haven’t looked at this option, my question would be why not?

An additional benefit is that once you have an audiobook, Amazon is clever enough to make the sample available on all the books pages (Kindle, paperback etc.). I think this helps sales of other formats as well. Take a look at an example here where you can see the audible narration button below the book cover for the Kindle version.

The My Haunted Life books have proven to be very popular to date in audiobook format and are my best sellers in that format. The Hexagram

I’m unsure how many people may have read the book The Mystical Hexagram by myself and Sue Vincent, but I am sure its less than 100. Even I will describe the book as a strange tome but packed with magical information. The book came about as a result of my utter obsession with this occult symbol. While I was finishing the Servants of the Light first degree course, I kept on seeing the symbol in meditation. The inner contact that I had developed kept leaving me with tantalizing scraps of wisdom about it too. I found myself doodling hexagrams and pondering the correspondences of it. I recall one weekend retreat led by Dolores Ashcroft-Nowicki in which I showed her this huge diagram of the symbol and everything I could possibly glean from it. She said it was interesting work, but I’m not sure she shared my enthusiasm for it! She did kindly write the foreword however.

Last night, as I was tidying things up a bit, I came across my notebook – the one I used to scribble meditations and thoughts on the Hexagram. I opened it and began again the voyage of discovery that I had experienced. I had copious notes from Comte de Gabalis, for example, in which I saw again the Hexagram as a key to greater understanding. In the work, coincidences often occur and I think it was no accident that I came across a video on youtube about Franz Bardon with a reference to a strange book by the name of A System of Caucasian Yoga. I had that book somewhere and I looked for and found it. I had only read a few pages when I realised – the hexagram again……

Anyway, back to our book. After a while, I felt I had written enough – all that I could. It had been a labour of love and I felt exhausted by it. The problem was, there wasn’t enough material for a book of any length. I mentioned this to Sue Vincent at the time and she volunteered to help. She did a superb opening chapter on the symbol through history and then provided from her own work, a view on the Tree of Life that was equally as exquisite as any I had read. We had a book.

I created a set of exercises in the book. I had hoped someone would one day tell me they had completed the exercises and describe what had happened. No one has yet.

I am convinced that the book contains received material that has never before been revealed. Yes, it takes some understanding and a certain mindset to figure it out (like my obsession), but I think the book describes enough to show that the hexagram is the key to unlock other systems and possibly even the key to adept hood.

The strange thing about the way the book came about and in fact, quite a lot of my esoteric writings, is that they didn’t come from me. I am no adept. I am a bumbling, lazy old want to be magician that actually couldn’t sit and describe well what I had written. I do seem to be a channel however for something that comes through and just occasionally, my conscious self makes a quantum leap in understanding as a result.

For anyone interested in symbolism, Qabbalah, Tarot, Elemental magic, Franz Bardon and so on. I urge you to give the book a look over and I am intrigued by what you might conclude.
