Edge of Day

Memories painted in my mind

Tapestries spun from emotion

Hanging as if to dry

A long and windy road trod barefoot

As if in requiem to another yesterday

The wind howls a deep sigh

Inside my head the pictures float

A technicolor movie of my life

Endlessly showing to a crowd of one

Somewhere, the Sea crashes over the rocks

That sit at the core of my being

Will a B movie actor suffice?

My road is forked

My path lies which way?

Eternal sunshine

Or, I simply fall away

I am a dreamer dreaming

I am an observer observing

A growing point in time

Treading a weary line

The footprints in the sand lead nowhere

Except around and around

Edging inwards away

The mountains in the distance

Beckon me on to I know not where

On the very edge of day

My path lies before me

I take it one step at a time

Not knowing where it leads

And looking for a sign

I am a dreamer dreaming

A believer still believing

That I will find her in time

Reflected in morbid rhyme.

The Dilemma of Fatherhood

Well, my next book is about demons? vampires? black-eyed kids?

NOPE – it’s a short collection of poetry called The Dilemma of Fatherhood….. hopefully out soon on Kindle.

It won’t sell but I don’t care – the poetry has an edge…..

And the cover features yours truly too….

I hope someone enjoys it as much as I did writing it……

Online Dating

I’m looking for a date

Despite it getting quite late

I’ve tried Tinder and Badoo

And OKCupid too

Yet, all I find are bots

And scams and attempts

To defraud

Porn star pictures

Some of them dead

A simple reverse search confirms

A profile to dread

I send messages

That go unanswered

Poems and thoughts and things

That might interest

Photos of course I select only

What I think to be my best

I’m a real catch for someone

But this makes no sense

Online dating

It’s a lottery

The ladies in waiting

Never reply

I an’t get their interest

I feel I need to lie

About my age

To get a look in

I want to shout

Look at me!

I’m wealthy, creative

I look younger than I am

I have wisdom and I am fun

I am special

I am the one

But it’s a waste of time

Speaking with bots

Fakes and no hopers

Worn out elopers

On line

A Kiss

What I would give for a kiss

A hug by a warm log fire

Someone’s hand in mine

To feel loved by a woman

Who cares for me

What I would give for summer

Hand in hand on a beach

Eyes staring into mine

The warmth of her silken skin

Loved and happy

This loneliness is hard to bear

Moment to moment I despair

My heart is an empty shell

And life a living hell

What would I give for conversation

Over a bottle of red wine

Candle light flickering a while

Casting light into the darkness

That I now call life.

Words of Power

Just recently, someone called me a ‘denier’. I suddenly found myself thinking about the things we call people – the words that we use and how we use them. It struck me that these are words of power. Words like ‘sexist’, ‘racist’, denier’ and so on. They carry a weight and a magical intent that has been placed their by the intent of the many times those words have been used. The are in a way a sort of egregore ( an occult concept representing a “thoughtform” or “collective group mind”, an autonomous psychic entity made up of, and influencing, the thoughts of a group of people.) in a word.

Let me return to the word ‘denier’ as in climate change denier. When someone uses this expression against you it has the desired effect of belittling, but perhaps more importantly, it effectively destroys the expertise of the person being called a denier. You become just another ‘foolish’ person who denies the ‘truth’ of climate change. It stops any further useful conversation with its negativity and simplicity. It carries the weight of popular opinion against the person it is being used against. It has become a magical word with magical results for the negative.

The same with many of these words. Once you call someone a racist – they are one in effect with all the utter negativity that invokes. You have summoned the weight of the word in common usage and essentially sent off a negative magical arrow that encumbers the person termed such. Now there are racists and there are sexists – don’t get me wrong. What I am trying to say is that these words have become part of the lexicon of avoiding debate and of shifting someone from a probably reasonable position into one of defensive argument. You can use these words to do immense damage to someone who is not a racist or a sexist or whatever word is used.

I throw this thought out there…. maybe I’m wrong but I feel in today’s world, this is about creating a negative brand or an attempt to destroy a personal brand or reputation. One of the first things I learned as a marketing executive was how to destroy or at least eat away at the competitor’s credibility by using certain negative phrases or words. However, when these words are used over and over, they take on an occult power that can have – and is meant to have – damaging impacts.

When someone in a discussion on climate change calls you a denier, they shift the whole conversation through the weight of that word. It doesn’t matter what expertise you may have, whether in fact you are expressing a doubt about an aspect of climate change – nope. It robs you of credibility, robs you of your expertise and reputation and it puts you down.

Dead Porn Stars and Facebook

I maintain a facebook account and if anyone wants to friend me, I am OK with that… I assume they read my books or somehow know me. Just recently though, I have been inundated with lots of friend requests from really sexy looking young women. As usual, I just said Ok and carried on. But these new friends appeared insistent upon talking to me. Well, I’m not averse to talking to nice looking young women – or anyone for that matter, so I chatted back.

The first strange thing I noted was that each of these women seemed to have very bad luck. One told me she was raped and now has an 11-year son from that who she is raising by herself. Her mother died in childbirth and her father in a car accident several years ago. She hasn’t had a relationship for 11-years and someone older and more reliable would be nice. OK? But you are in Los Angeles so what has this to do with me? Ah…. well maybe you could send me some money?

Well, I have to tell you that I am a very suspicious person and I was suspicious when these women started messaging me. I was even more suspicious at the hard luck stories and why they would tell me intimate life details like this so quickly. So I did what I think Facebook should do automatically when someone registers – I reverse google searched the pictures on their profile. I went along with the flow knowing that the pictures were indeed fake and mainly of dead porn stars until the point that they asked me for money. At which point, I sent them the results of the image search, reported them to FB and blocked them.

Now here is the interesting thing. You would think that FB would delete these profiles right? Nope. They told me only to block the person because unless they were inciting race hatred or something, FB would tolerate their ‘criminal’ activities…

So there you have it. Dead pornstars are tolerated by FB who appear to believe that fake accounts designed to scam are just hunky dory.

The Frog Prince

She grew up as a princess

Spoiled through and through

Graced by good looks and a photogenic face

That took her far and wide

Never needing to stand up for herself

As rich men took her under wing

Italy, Monte Carlo, and guilded palaces held her tall

Moet and Cavier, Ferraris and five star

Haute couture and the disco

Paid the money that she saved

The rich guys paid for her lifestyle

And now it fades away like all things do

The looks, the body, slowly fade

She now has a home in Tuscany

Where for now, she can relive

The ghosts of her life

But she is really alone

And always will be

For her heart does not know love

Every time she found it

She had reason to turn away

And as she approaches end of day

I wish for her another way

Because whatever she does say

We all need to be loved

We all need to be loved

But it seems that being the object

Of all that male attention

By being able to use her looks

She truly lost her way

I loved her once it’s true

It was fleeting like good looks

But both true and bold

She was my Princess

The looker on my arm

But in the end

I discovered

Her fear of being loved

She said I was her frog

She hoped would one day

become a Prince

But I was the Prince she sought

all along

Should I Podcast?

I have been wondering about doing a podcast for a while now – something creepy perhaps? What do you think? Something like this – a video I did a couple of years ago now.

Podcasting may be a little easier than building the video so maybe I will give it a try.

Meanwhile – pop over to My Haunted Life Too for a bunch more terrifying ghost stories….
