So You Think You Know Me?
One idea that constantly occupies some aspect of my thoughts is how transparent people really are. I can think of a couple of examples immediately and in each case, I confess I am often troubled and upset by it. It seems to me that these people believe they know me. They plainly have a picture of me in their mind. A sort of working model. The problem is is that while that picture may have my outer appearance, it is almost certainly a facet of themselves that occupies that outer form in their mind and yet, they do not know this. It makes for an endless source of irritation in our communications. It means that everything I ever say or do is seen against their expectations of how I will behave and their responses are informed by this. In the end, we never actually talk with each other at all but with ourselves. A constant stream of miscommunication in fact. Knowing this, I have changed my approach altogether now and simply ignore the reaction as far as I can in an effort to focus on the actual point of the communication.
It’s hard to explain what I mean here but I will try.
We are our experience. We are shaped by our beliefs and experiences and we project these onto others. We interpret what others do and say by comparison with our own motives, thoughts and feelings. We react. We don’t actually listen, observe and think.
As we reflect on ourselves – dissecting what we are and why we are – an entire lifetimes work for those that do this (Know thyself). We do begin to see this. We are in constant projection and reaction mode through life unless we start to do the work and even then, we only chip away at the problem – at least in my instance. We are also so quick to react that often the actual thinking and reflection only comes later and our insight into what was really taking place in a communication comes after the fact – and usually too late.
One benefit though is you start to see the patterns of behaviour. I now listen when I remember, to to the questions I am asked. They shed great light on the one asking. I try now to bite my lip and not react when I see another’s reaction. They didn’t actually see what I asked or said. They saw their own question or statement – they feel how they would feel and do not gain a sense of how you felt when asking or communicating. The entire world is in your own head and you are constantly talking to yourself – reacting. It is the basis for almost all miscommunication in the world but it can also be a source of intelligence about who you deal with.
Don’t react. Pause, think. Ask yourself what emotional reactions does someone’s words evoke within you? What does this say about you? What part of themselves are they projecting onto you? I’m new to this but I am learning quickly and I’m learning to see myself and others in new ways.

My Virtual Reality
Last night, my daughter and I watched a movie about Katy Perry. As I stepped away for a smoke, these words suddenly came to mind…… Not sure what it means.
Come with me
Into my virtual reality
Come with me
Feel the depth of my insanity
I’m sliding away, headed anywhere
I’m skipping this insane reality
I’m easing on through to be with you
I have found my pastures new
I’m in my own world of pain and memory
Trapped inside some slick pop melody
It’s like living a Katy Perry song gone wrong
I’m losing my mind inside this silly song
I saw you just the other day as you turned away
A flash of anger, and then the hell to pay
Is this a virtual world, a dream turned inside out?
I’m slipping my noose without shadow of doubt
Floating in an alternate universe
Turned all upside down
It’s a fictitious hologram
3D bogus ‘don’t give a damn’
You live in some other world I’m sure
The words you speak, the things you say
Meaningless sarcasm and silent motives
Drawing up battle lines far away
Come with me
Into my virtual reality
Come with me
Feel the depth of my insanity

The Age of the Mantra
Those who know me will know that I’m a skeptic on CO2 being the primary driver around climate change. I’m called a ‘climate change denier’ despite the fact that I embrace the fact the climate changes. My ‘sin’ is to have some other opinions about why climate changes and despite, the mantras, there is a lot (and increasing) of scientists that share this view. However, this blog isn’t about climate change, it’s about mantras. You see, as soon as my position on climate change is known then I’m seen as a right winger. Again, those that know me will know that this isn’t at all true either. I’m a critical thinker and I have the confidence to hold my own options on almost every topic around which I have some degree of ability for discernment. I don’t belong in any of the ‘gangs’, groups or ‘isms thank you.
In the last decade or so, the world has been dumbed down. It’s all about mantras now. Everyone feels entitled to hold an opinion whether they actually have the ability to discern anything at all. Everything is black and white. If you are a climate change skeptic, you are right wing. If you are against nationalism, you are a liberal and so on. The only way to understand the modern world is to think that people feel the need to belong to an identity – either black or white – and so everyone must also fit that description. Perhaps I’m just getting old but I yearn for the days when you could have a debate or a conversation without the labels, without the politically-charged statements like ‘climate change denier’, and where individuality was something to be admired and respected.
I’m no expert in social sciences but I do wonder is it the fault of social media with its ability to REACT to every silly meme and statement going without ever having to actually think? The social media’s algorithm that shows you news you want to see (ie. confirms your mistaken opinions and reinforces your bias) and shows you the comments only of those you already agree with? Isn’t this part of the issue?
The only way to escape from this is to start thinking again. Stop reacting and think instead.
I’m in the beginnings of a course right now that is essentially attempting to teach me how to go with the flow and live in the moment. How to find my true self and be happy and content with it while working steadily to improve. I find it interesting how REACTING is dealt with in the course materials. Social media reinforces reactions and it does it by reinforcing them. It’s rather insidious and I too have fallen for it far too often. I am also guilty of reacting to the people around me in predictable ways and then being played by these people who have fun at my expense. On the net we call it trolling but I am surrounded by real-life trolls and all of those mantras.
I worry about the mantras – how people just follow things because its part of being in the club. I don’t know where this really cam from but…. remember that everything we hear is an opinion, not a fact and everything we see is a perspective, not the truth. Even this blog post!

Motel Hell – Ever Stayed in One?
Nope – not talking about poor service, dirtiness, bed bugs and that sort of thing. I’m talking about Hotels and Motels that are already occupied….. by otherworldly guests. It’s happened to me a few times and judging by the reviews I found on Yelp and Trip Adviser, it happens a lot. Some of these reviews are terrifying and others are actually quite funny – imagine being awakened by a peeing ghost for example?
Anyway, my next book is ready and it is called Motel Hell – Strange Reviews of Haunted Hotels.

It is available to pre-order now and will be available on August 16th generally.

The Ghost Sex Puzzle
One of the best little books I have written is a book investigating the issue of Sleep Paralysis, The Old Hag and Succubi/Incubi. It’s not a collection of stories but a real investigation of the phenomenon. Funny thing is though, it has never really sold very well. We tried different covers and different titles and all to no avail. Meanwhile, the stories of ghost lovers are all over the media these days with a story recently published about one British woman who is planning to marry her ghost lover!
Well, for the next 24 hours, the kindle version is FREE and I invite you to download it and give it a read…… You can get it here.
To give you a bit of a reason to go get the book, let me reproduce a few short sections below…..
One late evening, I was lying in bed half-asleep and half-awake waiting to go into a deep sleep. I’d been out with some friends drinking and had gotten home and gone straight to bed. It was unusual for me to be half-asleep and half-awake as normally a few drinks assure me of a full night’s sleep. I was drifting off when I felt my wife get into bed next door to me. I heard her switch the light off and turn over. She was obviously interested in me that night so we made love and then I turned over and went straight to sleep.
The following morning, I woke up hungover and she wasn’t there and I remembered that she had been at a conference all weekend.
So, who the hell did I have sex with?
That, is a very good question!
And….
For scientists and materialist, the Old Hag is nothing but an experience that occurs in a mind awake, body asleep state when waking up from sleep. Your mind is awake and so you can see and hear, but your body is still asleep and cannot move – at least momentarily. You are awakening from a dream state and you continue to dream as your mind creates an explanation for the paralysis. In other words, you are awake, but still dreaming and still paralyzed. So, that would mean that the old hag is just a dream or ‘night mare’. OK. So please explain to me how I and others continued to see the old hag long after I awoke? I am not in the habit of waking up from a dream and still seeing the elements of that dream in my waking state – are you? In some quarters, the old hag is a hallucination brought on by the sleep paralysis, but again, I would ask why do I continue then to hallucinate for minutes after regaining normal consciousness? And why, is this phenomenon so widespread?
My hypothesis…
My theory is this. These entities are real. What they actually are, I don’t entirely know, but they do seem to – or some of them appear to anyway, utilize our fear emotion as energy. The entities are not our imagination on steroids upon waking – no. These entities use the sleep paralysis phenomenon. They watch us as we sleep and they wait their moment and then they seize it. They appear as an old monstrous hag sitting upon us or a shadowy figure by the side of our bed and they absorb the fear that they create in us. They are fear vampires from the other side.
I tell you – this book will scare the pants off you……. give it a look.

Politics
It’s hard to believe in the world today
It’s hard to believe in your humanity
It’s hard not to lose all hope
Amongst all of this bitter insanity
Have we forgotten so soon?
Has history lost it’s relevance?
Where is your heart, your soul?
How easily you are led
By all the hate and lies
That you are now fed
Progress made, but going backwards
Unsubstantiated opinions expressed
Read it on my Facebook page
I can imagine most of the rest
Call it politics
Call it fake news
Call it whatever you wish
It’s giving me the blues
Better wake up
Better stop the rot
Before someone
Nukes the lot
Have we forgotten so soon?
Has history lost it’s relevance?
Where is your heart, your soul?
How easily you are led
On all the hate and lies
That you are now fed

Humanity Has Cataracts
A couple of years ago, I was rather shocked when my eye doctor told me I was developing cataracts. She wanted to schedule for for lens replacement and I said no…. I can see quite well and I am in no rush to have my eye lenses replaced via an operation thank you!
Having said that, I am thinking of prescribing lens surgery for humanity at the moment.
We all see the world in our own way. We are sort of programmed by our parents, the broader community we live in, our teachers, friends, peer groups, the news and so much more. We see the world through these layers of our own belief and operate this way unless perhaps we become aware of it. Once aware of this, some of us develop an interest in the ‘occult’. Honestly, for most of us this is no more than using various age old techniques to learn who we are and discover what those lenses are that we see through. If you can alter that lens or lenses, you start to see the world very differently. However, this process must start with self exploration…. a ruthless examination of our faults and virtues.
Now, I could write a very long article about this topic but I won’t. Suffice to say, unless we awaken to the fact that the ‘out there’ is a reflection of the ‘inside’, we are simply drawn in to be manipulated by our own sense of reality. Our lenses in fact, cease to be lenses at all, but mirrors. We see in the world what we expect to see continually reinforcing what we always believed to be true. We develop spiritual cataracts in fact.
In the last few years, it seems to me that many in the world suffer from cataracts. It is this that has led to a rise in nationalism, hatred and so on. Today, I commented on a comment on a Facebook post about the horrendous attack on a synagogue in the USA. The person commenting lamented the attack and then proceeded to lay blame on the wicked ‘Islamist’ that perpetrated it. My comment was well – wait…. it was a white christian guy that did that. To my utter dismay, I was told I was wrong.
I wondered for a while how people can be blind to the facts. How people can blindly follow political leaders and causes that anyone realistically would understand are not positive. It was then I realized…. they have spiritual cataracts….. they see only what they think they should and their expectations are based on their beliefs and programming. OK – its not so simple perhaps but there is a large element of this prevalent right now. The blind follow the blind……
