Music Monday – Lindsey Stirling feat. Lzzy Hale: Shatter Me

I Love Lindsey Stirling. So. Much. She’s got the most incredible and amazing talent.

The visualization in her videos is simply stunning. They tell a story through music and those types of videos have always been my favorite since the 80’s and the mini-movies that Duran Duran’s music videos seemed to be.

I hope y’all are doing well so far in January… It’s been cold. We have snow and ice and a couple of snow days. I’ve been keeping busy with writing and revising and you’ll soon have a new old...

Why My Old Books Get An Overhaul

When I get an older book back from a publisher or in the case of Christmas Wishes, out of an anthology, I tend to not release it back into the wild blue yonder of the book world without a few tweaks.

I often go back and add words. Most of the time, double what it was originally, or more. Different writers have different philosophies about revisions on older books, but here’s mine, or at least, here’s one of mine… There’s more to the story than was previously told.

Take, for instance, The Swi...

10K Weekends for Writers – January 5-8, 2017

Happy New Year, Writers!

It’s a new year and another chance for us to write ALL THE WORDS!

I pledge to be better at this. And I hope… Like really, really hope I can’t get more people involved. This could be such a fun thing, if I could just get it to grow.

So, the way this works is…

From today, Thursday, January 5th through Sunday, January 8th, you, me, whoever, writes or aims to write 10,000 words. Broken down that’s 2500 words a day for 4 days. It’s a lot, or it sounds like a lot. I’ve bee...

Music Monday – Halestorm: Here’s To Us

It’s the start of a New Year…

Here’s a toast to the old, with wishes for the new… And I will NOT apologize for the language the band uses…

Here’s to the clean slate and promise and possibility of 2017! And a big FUCK YOU to 2016!

2016-2017 College Football Bowl Games, Day 12

Well…

AutoZone Liberty Bowl, Georgia vs TCU (A Win! Thank goodness ’cause for a while, it didn’t look so good for me, but definitely ended well!)

Hyundai Sun Bowl, North Carolina vs Stanford (Not a win. A total bust. And let me just say, a ref that causes the ball to come out of the player’s hand, however inadvertent? Really? Not cool!)

Nova Home Loans Arizona Bowl, Air Force vs South Alabama (Win!)

Music City Bowl, Nebraska vs Tennessee (Not so much!)

Capitol One Orange Bowl, Michigan vs Fl...

I Miss Bookstores

I know I’ve used this image before, but I love it. A stack of books reaching high into the sky and mixing into the scenery, weaving stories. I mean, really, for lovers of the written word, what isn’t there to love about it?

The loss of bookstores makes me sad. The lack of a variety of bookstores makes me sad when I used to spend hours and hours and hours combing the shelves, grabbing a stack, sitting in comfy chairs, and flipping through pages, then often taking most of my stack to the cashi...

2016-2017 College Football Bowl Games, Days 10 & 11

I can’t say the last two days have gone too much better in regards to my record. I can’t say the record is improving, but I have won some key match-ups in my household and that goes a long way to restoring my confidence. Here’s hoping it won’t be all that short lived…

Day 10:

New Era Pinstripe Bowl, Northwestern vs Pittsburgh (I didn’t start out the day well…at all. This was a loss. Sadly.)

Russell Athletic Bowl, Miami (FL) vs West Virginia (I got one!)

Foster Farms Bowl, Indiana vs Utah (An...

There are no words, and yet…

I was 6 years old when the first Star Wars movie came out. 6. I have watched Carrie Fisher all my life. 40 years.

At the time, I didn’t know what was so incredible about her or what was going on in the world. As I grew up, other things invaded my consciousness and it wasn’t until later in life did I realize her incredible gifts beyond Star Wars. Laughter. Creativity. Honesty. She was more than an actress. She was more than the gold bikini. She was a voice for those battling internal demons....
