Excerpt:When I get back to the stand, Sunny says, “You were gone awhile. Did you get lost?”

“I squirted myself!” I announce, quite abruptly.

“When? Just now?” Sunny asks with concern.

David chimes in, “Oh no. You must have stopped at the tamale stand. I could have told you that was going to happen. If you need, I’ve got some Pepto back in the truck.”
“Oh, no. Not right now,” I explain. “Something reminded me of a past incident. I was getting picked on at school because back around Christmas holidays I got really sick. The embarrassing part is that I diarrhea squirted in my freakin’ pants, right in the classroom, in front of everyone!” I’m hysterical with laughter. I have to admit, even though it was the worst thing that has happened to me thus far in life, it’s still hilarious when you hear it said aloud. Kip is still lying on the ground, with his back turned to us, pretending to sleep, but his body is quaking with silent laughter. Sunny and David are stone-faced.

Sunny looks especially puzzled. “I don’t see how that’s funny. You got sick, and then your peers taunted you about it. That is not very nice.”

“That’s what I’m thinking,” David says. “It’s like someone saying, ‘Ha. Ha. You have Hodgkin’s Lymphoma’. I don’t get it.”

“Oh, no. It is funny, but bless you both for thinking otherwise,” I say, pulling David and Sunny to my sides and kissing them both on the cheek. I’ve shared my shameful secret, escaped the hands of my nemesis, and have garnered two allies in Sunny and David. There's nothing Ricky Kelly could do to bring me down now.  Buy Link:Amazon Bookmark Blitz Tour Page About the Author Henry Circle is a Mississippi native, a freelance writer, a sometime hermit and a most-times loud mouth. Book Review: TAKEN BY STORM

Travel to an "Arabian nights" landscape and enjoy the unique setting wonderfully depicted in M. J. Schiller's TAKEN BY STORM.

Back Cover Blurb:
Born from the fire of a palace coup, the relationship between the king of Avistad’s son Prince Tahj and the captive girl Bashea burns with a passion that neither of them quite understands. The pair is drawn closer together as they face enemy soldiers, a screaming panther, even the scathing winds of a desert storm.

After what she has been through, Bashea is afraid to trust and her fiery nature is both what appeals to Tahj and what drives him crazy. It takes a long separation to bring them back to each other, but when Tahj does return, it is once again during a battle with his greatest enemy, Lord Boltar. But now Lord Boltar, who has been forced beyond reason by Tahj’s success in retaking the throne, is an even more dangerous threat than before. Reunited, will Tahj and Bashea be strong enough to defeat their twisted and powerful enemy?

My Review:
TAKEN BY STORM is categorized as paranormal, however, it’s really a historical novel set in a fictional land and time period (aka historical fantasy). But that certainly doesn’t detract from the beauty of the story. Ms. Schiller creates a wonderful landscape and rich characterization that mimics an Arabian world and a history that feels as authentic as if I had been there with Tahj and Bashea. The story starts with political upheaval that destroys life as Prince Tahj knows it, and sheep-herder’s daughter Bashea suffers the worst fate imaginable to a woman. Yet, they find each other amidst a takeover coup at Prince Tahj’s family castle, and manage to escape into the desert. Despite their differences, loyal and shy Tahj and strong-willed Bashea begin to have feelings for each other as they seek out Bashea’s family to return her to safety. Even when Tahj must leave to avenge his family, he can think of nothing but building a safe life for himself and Bashea together.

TAKEN BY STORM is full of adventure, peril and over-protective families. Through it all, Tahj and Bashea fight to come together. With a backdrop of distrust, betrayal, and class differences, their romance is organic and real. You can’t help but fall in love with the world Ms. Schiller has created and the love story that will stay with you for a long time after you read the last page. I highly recommend TAKEN BY STORM.

Cover Reveal: VIGILANTE NIGHTS

As some of you know, my young adult debut novel VIGILANTE NIGHTS sold late this summer to Merit Press Books, the new YA imprint of F+W Media. Last week I finished my first round of revisions and turned them into my editor (whew!). At the same time, I received my final cover. I'm so excited! I absolutely LOVE this cover and couldn’t be happier. I love the colors and the gritty feel of it. The Merit Press art department did a fantastic job and really got the essence of the story with this cover. What do you think?

Blurb (Unofficial):
After he awakens from a coma, Lucas Alexander is bereft of everything that made his life meaningful - his beloved twin sister, Silver, his future as a college football player, and his vintage Camaro. Unable to face the anguish, he starts a vigilante club to hunt down the gang running the gang initiation Lucas and Silver stumbled into. As Lucas schemes, his life turns weird when he and Silver have conversations from the grave, and then it becomes deadly when he winds up a target and jeopardizes his family and friends. Desperate to hide his activities from his parents and handle them his way, Lucas seeks out Tara, his shy new neighbor, to patch up a knife wound to his hand. Instead, he finds hope in Tara and realizes there’s more to life than vengeance. Now Lucas must find a way to halt the insanity before he loses everything again. Hardcover Release date:  July 18, 2013Pre-order now at Amazon

Excerpt:
Luigi decided to toast himself and his accomplishments again. Finding his glass empty, he rang the bell for a top up, and continued to gloat, firmly believing he was beyond accountability.

When the door to the study opened a few minutes later and Gianni, the housekeeper, came in with his favorite Black Pearl Louis XIII cognac on a silver tray, he insisted the old servant stay with him and drink to his success. “Come, Gianni, stay, celebrate with me. Good times should be shared with trusted friends.” The gesture wasn’t missed by Gianni. At fifty-five thousand dollars a bottle, the cognac was one of the most expensive in the world, and he quickly poured a generous helping into two glasses. As he handed one to his boss, he paused momentarily to savor the bouquet of the blended flowers, fruits, spices, and the deep amber color of the aromatic liquid.

“You’re looking particularly pleased with yourself today, young Sir. Good news?”

“It’s the very best of news, Gianni, and one that appears to be maturing with age.” He replied without looking away from the screens.

The old housekeeper tossed down his drink in one and shuffled to stand deferentially behind his employer. He listened as yet more reports of the suffering caused by the missile detonations were announced. “That mess doesn’t look like there’s much to be happy about, Sir. Surely that doesn’t please you, does it?”

“Aah, Gianni, sometimes, when you need to make a point, you have to catch your enemy’s attention,” Luigi replied. “You have to ensure they not only respect you, but fear you. I’m pleased because I’ve done just that. Wouldn’t you agree, my old friend?”

When no reply was forthcoming, Luigi naturally assumed the old housekeeper must have been unable to hear his question.

Turning in his seat, he felt a peculiar throbbing, tingling sensation in his teeth and sinuses. “I said ‘wouldn’t you agr . . . .’” Luigi’s voice choked off in his throat as he caught sight of Gianni’s eyes. The distinctive, familiar, lazy old eyes of his longtime employee seemed to be undergoing some kind of metamorphosis. Gone was the semi-vacant, un-focused faraway look he always seemed to display as he pottered about. Instead, Luigi was looking into the hardest, most piercing eyes he had ever seen, eyes that seemed to glow with an inner furnace to match the cold look of rage chiseled onto his face.

The shock made him drop his glass onto the carpet, spilling about three thousand dollars worth of the deep amber nectar. Transfixed he watched as Gianni’s body straightened, grew, and bulked out.

As the years fell away from his face, he realized without a doubt that he was going to fully shoulder the burdens his choices had wrought. Before him stood his own personal living nightmare made flesh, dressed from head to toe in black. Instantly he felt the fire rising within him, straining for release.

The Guardian stepped forward, making the barest of gestures with his finger as he did so, and Luigi found himself lifted into the air by some unseen force. He was held motionless, helpless as a puppet awaiting the commands of his master.

Nodding at the screens, the Guardian spoke. “Allow me to introduce myself. I am Andrew, Guardian Lord of Shadow Operations. Did you seriously think you’d get away with something like this?”

Luigi stared defiantly back, fighting to overcome his shock at the Guardian’s presence, and surprised at the lack of access to his ability.

“Do what you want, asshole, at least the world sees you as the frauds I knew you were!” he hissed.

“Do what I want? I’d love to, but unfortunately my boss won’t let me.”

Luigi stared impotently back at his nemesis as he strolled closer.

Once he was standing in front of him, the Shadow Lord said, “As for exposing us as frauds? Well, I really don’t know why you would think that. We never said or intimated we could be everywhere at once. The world’s a sad enough place as it is without you adding to it. All we are doing is trying to help people avoid as much heartbreak as possible.” Andrew pointed to the repeat bulletins on the screens. “So, once the world finds out that all this was the deliberate act of some sick and twisted psycho who didn’t care how many suffered, just so long as he could score some points, how do you think they’ll react to you, Luigi?”

The point struck home. Luigi struggled in an attempt to slap the Guardian across the face, to do something to help vent the building fury inside him.

Helpless, he continued stewing as the Guardian moved so close he was able to whisper in his ear. “And when they find out about your abilities, can you even begin to imagine how they’ll react to that? You worthless, spineless, pathetic little man. I really wish they’d let me play with you before we throw you to the wolves.”

“Fuck off, asshole, you don’t scare me.”

“Scare you?” Andrew smiled wickedly. “Oh no, Luigi, that’s not my job. That’s hers!” The Guardian gestured behind Luigi at the same moment he let go with his telekinesis. Although Luigi only dropped about a foot, he crumpled to the floor, becoming acutely aware that the strange throbbing in his teeth was even more pronounced than before.

Turning, Luigi was met with a vision of such barely contained power and fury that he immediately soiled his pants.

Andrew squatted beside him. “Allow me to introduce you to the head of our investigations branch. This is Victoria, our Lord Inquisitor, and she’s very pleased to meet you after all the suffering you’ve caused.”

Victoria stood in front of the TV screens, wreathed in a visible static discharge that blew the circuits of all the electrical equipment in the office and made the hairs on Luigi’s arms and head stand on end.

Her eyes, so similar to those of the Shadow Lord, intensified in luminosity and turned from grey to white hot.

Luigi shielded his eyes and cowered on the floor in his own excrement. What a fool I am. He thought.

In reply to his thoughts, the Shadow Lord said, “Yes Luigi, what a murderous, cowardly fool of a man you are. I think the whole world will agree when they find out, eh?”

About the Author Andrew P. Weston was born in the city of Birmingham, in the UK and grew up in the towns of Bearwood and Edgbaston. He eventually attended Holly Lodge Grammar School for Boy’s where he was School Captain and Head Boy. He was an active sportsperson for the school, college and a variety of rugby, martial art, swimming and athletics teams throughout the city.

On graduation in 1977 he joined the Royal Marines fulfilling a number of specialist roles both in the UK and abroad. In 1985 he became a police officer with the Devon & Cornwall Constabulary, and served in a variety of uniformed and plain clothed departments until his retirement in 2008.

Over those years, he wrote and illustrated a selection of private books for his children regarding the life of a tiny kitten, called, The Adventures of Willy Whiskers, gained further qualifications in Law and Religious Studies, was an active member of Mensa and continued to be an active sportsperson, providing lessons free of charge to local communities.

An unfortunate accident received on duty meant Andrew had to retire early from the police force, but after moving to the sunny Greek island of Kos to speed up his recuperation, he was at last able to devote time to the Guardian Concept he had developed over his years in the military and police.

When not writing, Andrew enjoys Greek dancing and language lessons, being told what to do by his wife, Annette, and hunting shadows in the dark. He also has a magnificent mustache collection.

Andrew is now contracted to Pagan Writers Press for three books. Fairy Tail, is a short, but dark and gritty erotic paranormal/thriller with a twist. The second book, Guardian Angels is the introductory book to the Guardian Series, a sci-fi action/adventure epic set in the near future. The latest short story, Blood Moon, is a paranormal action/thriller set in the jungles of South America. Further work on the Guardian Series and a new paranormal series, The Cambion Journals, has been completed and will hopefully be published during 2013.

Fun History of Thanksgiving!

I found this funny history of Thanksgiving and thought I'd share it with you for a laugh or two!

Thanksgiving history states that the first gathering among the pilgrims (Fred and Ethel Pilgrim, that is) and the Winnebago Indians, took place in 1621, as previously stated, and was regarded as a harvest festival event though there were few hippies and Jesus Freaks and rock bands at the time.
Following a harsh winter in 1620, followed by a drought, prayers for rain, and a rain that came down like cats and dogs, the autumn harvest festival featured fine foods such as turkey, giblets, gravy, mashed potatoes, lettuce, turnip & pea. Pheasants and swans were also offered and ironically, no one wanted the turkey wishbone at that time, but the kids all fought over the swan's neck.

According to scholars of Thanksgiving history, this autumn harvest festival was a time of overeating, dancing, drinking and merriment, which was strictly forbidden by the pilgrims' puritanical religion at the time and doomed all of the participants to an eternal life in hell or a life of wearing those ridiculous costumes with buckles on their shoes, whichever, they individually deemed harsher. The history of Thanksgiving states that pilgrims and Indians played games such as rugby, Native American soccer, badminton and Jarts.

Some older accounts of Thanksgiving history state that Pocahontas joined Captain Myles Standoffish for the first Thanksgiving celebration, but revisionist history states this isn't so as Pocahontas actually died just a few short years before the first celebration. According to new data in regards to the history of Thanksgiving, it is now known that the body of Pocahontas was dug up for the celebration and propped up at the end of the table. She was regarded as the wise old aunt who barely spoke a word and probably had a buzz on as she was smiling the whole time.

Again in 1621, Governor William Bradford declared Thanksgiving Day as a national holiday, but since the Revolutionary War had yet to take place, no one knew what this meant. In wasn't until George Washington was President in 1789, that he had the power, after the Revolutionary War to declare Thanksgiving as a national holiday. After doing so, George promptly bit into a huge turkey leg and split in two his fine wooden teeth.

So, there you have the history of Thanksgiving, albeit one that is factually incorrect, full of misinformation, misdirection and downright lies. For more factually incorrect, yet humorous information regarding Thanksgiving history, check out the rest of this site. http://www.thanksgivinghistory.net
Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Read onward! Escape to a Paradise Wonderland You can come to paradise, but you might never leave... Explore my paradise for your next winter wonderland getaway! When I set out to write my fantasy romance novel, WICKED PARADISE, I wanted to write a time-travel with a heroine from medieval times and a hero from the present-day. I wanted an escape to an unknown, exotic, and unique world. A place Morgan and Ryan never wanted to leave. A place devoid of human life where they could explore their relationship away from the burdens of their horrible home lives.  During the conception stage of WICKED PARADISE, I took a queue from a classic Eagles song, “Hotel California.” The lyrics: “this could be heaven or this could be hell” and “you can check-out anytime you like, but you can never leave” resonated with me. Instantly, the idea about an unchartered, inescapable island and the lost and desperate people who were destined to colonize it took flight. Most of all, I wanted my world to be the heaven they never wished to leave. First, I had to make it hell. What fun would heaven be without a trip through danger or hardship to reach that paradise? LOL!  Due to my small cast of characters, my unique setting became an empathetic character itself and caused havoc and mayhem on my heroine and hero as they searched for their happily ever after. Just like my human characters, my world had to be friendly, to create mood and influence behaviors. Weather, treacherous terrain and non-human inhabitants needed to test the mettle of both my island and characters, and also create opportunities for my heroine and hero to come together and explore their relationship naturally as they traveled toward their common goal. As my characters evolved and changed, so did my world. My island showed fear and relief. It sought comfort as well as gave it. It worked with my heroine and fought my villain. It endured and overcame external conflict and peril. My island became real to me as if I had walked upon it a million times. Two moons shadowed the island and bathed the nights in violet hues. The sun hung in a cloudless blue sky. Fine white beaches, waterfalls, mysterious crystal caves and a hidden grotto beguiled my characters. The jungle cooled as well as sweltered, and it hampered as well as aided. Throughout the boundless evil Morgan and Ryan faced, they fell in love on my paradise away from the dying and apocalyptic lives they endured in their home lands and time periods. Shadowmoon Island became their destiny in more ways than one. Take a chance on a total escape for a couple of hours. Walk through my jungle, breathe its air, taste its food, experience a slice of heaven. Come to my paradise, and you just may find you never want to leave. What’s your idea of a winter wonderland? Where will you take your next vacation?

Snippet Sunday: VIGILANTE NIGHTS #2

I just received my editorial letter from my editor on VIGILANTE NIGHTS and I'm deep in the editing cave now! I don't believe the beginning will change much, so here's a snippet continuing the scene I posted last Sunday.

Night had sneaked up on us as we left Monterey behind. We zoomed past the dimly lit Welcome to Sea Haven, California sign. Population 28,342, give or take ten million in an influx of farm workers from the inland counties, yearly tourists and summer resort peeps. The thumping drone of the Red Renegade’s new headers oozed ’68 perfection. Or as sweet as the Camaro SS should’ve sounded way back in 1968. “Camaro sounds badass, you think?”
“I guess.” Silver sighed, knocking her cup on her thigh. “Do you think I did the right thing?”
“Dumping Raymond?” Incredulous, I glanced at her. “Hell, yes.”
“He’s still your friend. He keeps calling me.”
“We’re football teammates. Nothing more. I’ll make sure he stays away from you.” I tweaked her hair. “You know he’s gunning for my spot.”
“You’re the best quarterback the school’s ever had. Coach would never,” Silver said thoughtfully, jingling her silver bangle bracelets.
Good enough to get two scholarships to killer schools. “I am perfect, aren’t I?” I teased, wanting to slide her mind off douche-bitch Raymond. He’d never know how much I hated him for the way he treated my twin. If I didn’t continue to keep the peace, he’d get all vindictive on her, like he did with other girls who quit taking his shit. I’d bite my tongue into pieces before I let on how much I knew about him…pressuring her…before she was ready. A slow burn spiraled up my chest. Screw the asshole.
