14:51:51: Back from a job interview. Nailed it, but considering I'm up against 200 other people for 2 positions... Eh, I still nailed it. Bitches. :)

Everything Is Fine

Wake up.

Today's a writing day. Put on the big smile because today you're living the dream. Today you get to write. Today you can write stories, and write about writing, and write about your life, and take heart in the fact that while so many people have difficulty finding the words, you've got two very expensive degrees that gave you plenty.

Keep smiling, and let the world see you're smiling, because you're living the dream, so everything's taken care of. Everything is fine.

Check your auctions. Contact agencies of the literary and employment variety to get the same answer from both, but hey, you're trying, and no one can fault that, right? Check on other efforts, tug on lines you've cast out to see if anything's garnered a nibble. It doesn't matter if there's nothing to report, you're doing something, so keep smiling. Everything is fine.

Cancel a few things, postpone a couple more, reread some old books, replay some old games, rewatch some old shows. Cancel a few more things, chuckle at how some things that are so cheap are seen as luxuries. Buy food, generic's fine, you don't need to pay for advertising, you can't really afford it anyway. You can still laugh at things, so it's all good. Everything is fine.

Write. Blog. Tweet. Try to be funny. Mark troll-mail as spam, mark hate-mail as spam. Laugh it off. All authors likely get stuff like that. Act like the words didn't get to you, go for walks with loud music to drown out the slurs you still hear in your head. It just means you're making it, you've finally arrived. Everything is fine.

Cancel a few more things. Sell some more things. Buy food. Write. Don't ask for help, that's blood in the water. Write some more, because it's doing something until you can call around again to check the lines you've cast. Don't ask for help. Keep smiling, because you're living the dream. Everything is fine.

Run out of things to cancel. Sell some things you didn't think you'd sell. Buy food. Write to do something, mostly to quiet a voice you thought you outran in your twenties, a voice that doesn't hold sway anymore, but it's there nonetheless. Shrug off the trolls, don't open the hate mail. Don't ask for help, because that'll burn the few bridges you have left, just keep smiling, keep laughing. Because you're still writing, still living the dream. Don't ask for help, because there's no blood in the water.

Everything is fine.

09:59:08: Just passed 77k, and I'm supposed to be working on revisions today. #lightningrod
10:10:16: @StormGrant @vashtan I actually think it might be "fad", since that word started being used in the 1830s to describe the latest "craze".
10:11:55: @StormGrant @vashtan Though it didn't start to be used to describe a short-lived until 1881, apparently. Granted, I'm not a hist-fic writer.
10:12:43: @StormGrant @vashtan Short-lived fad that is. #stupidcharacterlimits
10:19:20: @StormGrant @vashtan Though if you're talking about fashion, go with "haute couture". I'll shut up now. :)

House of Stone releases in print today!

"House of Stone is the first book by Vaughn R. Demont that I've read and I'll be looking for others in the future." --Literary Nymphs

"House of Stone is a humorous romp with some great characters and a fun plot." --Whipped Cream Erotic Romance Reviews

"...fun afternoon reading. ...I look forward to reading Richard's continuing adventures." - The Good, the Bad, and the Unread

"...ingenious. ...mixes savage romance with fairy tale with erotica, but manages to make it all a perfect melting pot." - Elisa Rolle

"Between Richard's accomplished characterization and the intriguing twists of the plot, this was an absorbing, entertaining read." - Book Utopia

A modern knight, a noble quest, and a magical sword. What could go wrong?

Welcome to the City, where gods run nightclubs, goblins hire out as mercs, sorcerers work their magic, the Fae hold court over every neighborhood…and humanity is blissfully ignorant of it all.

For minor Fae noble Richard Stone, life is going well. He has a decent fiefdom (okay, it's a slum), a budding acting career (okay, so it's porn), and one of only five magical swords in the City. An arranged marriage is barely a blip on his worry meter—until his family blade loses its magic. The shame of it puts his noble standing in jeopardy.

To regain his status, Richard needs help. Fortunately, his new bride is a sidhe knight and his servant Simaron has, er, his back. Together they embark on a quest to find the demon who slew his father, investigate a conspiracy that goes to the highest echelons of Fae nobility, and discover a secret family legacy that could ruin his House.

All while keeping up appearances to a society that demands perfection. And they say a noble's life is easy…

Warning: This book contains explicit gay sex, not-so-explicit gay sex, explicitly implied gay sex, routine breaking of the fourth wall, occasional bouts of Pearl Jam fanboy-ism, and plot. Side effects include confusion and headaches, and are best avoided by reading the pages therein in numerical order.

10:35:14: So I'm relieved, but don't feel much like celebrating. It's more like part of a nightmare is over, and now we wait and see what's next.
10:36:37: Hopefully both sides here can get through their petty bullshit regarding the whole thing so we can all move the Hell on.
