Design Awards

The Australian Publishers Book Design Awards were announced last night, and Museum of Thieves was Highly Commended in the Children's Fiction Book category. The winner in this category was Midnight Zoo, designed by Tony Palmer and written by Sonya Hartnett. I haven't read it yet, but it looks really interesting so I'll have to check...

School visits etc

It's been a busy week. Well, busy by my standards, anyway! I'm writing Book 3, starting to do promo on Book 2, and still talking about Book 1. Would I change my life for anyone else's? Noooooooooo! So – Book 3, Path of Beasts. (I know that none of you have read Book 2 yet,...

City of Lies ARC

I understand that the Advance Readers' Copies of City of Lies have now gone out from Random House. (This is the US version – the Australian ARCs won't be out for a while yet.) So I'm chewing my nails while I wait to see what people think of it. The ARC unfortunately doesn't have the...

2011 Get Reading campaign

The Australian 2011 Get Reading! campaign was launched this week, and guess which children's fantasy novel is on it! Yes! Hooray! Museum of Thieves is now officially one of the '50 Books You Can't Put Down'. (And no, it has nothing to do with superglue.) If you want to see the full list of 50...

City of Lies cover – USA

Hooray, here at last is the Random House cover for City of Lies! Personally I think it's beautiful, and so does everyone I've shown it to. The artist, Jon Foster, is amazing. And I am a very happy author! City of Lies will be out in September this year. Meanwhile I'm pressing along with the...

R.I.P Diana Wynne Jones

The wonderful Diana Wynne Jones, author of the Chrestomanci series (amongst many others) has died. She is one of my all-time writing heroines. If you love children's fantasy and you haven't read her books yet, you are in for a treat. Go to the library, your local bookshop or wherever and start reading her IMMEDIATELY....

Aurealis Award Shortlist – and White Ravens

Does anyone here know what the White Ravens are? Nope, me neither. At least, I'd never heard of them until today. Apparently, every year, the International Youth Library in Munich, Germany, selects newly published books that they consider to be especially noteworthy. They announce this list at the Bologna Children's Book Fair, which is on...

Free bookplates

I've just received a box of custom-made bookplates with little Broo and Morg on them, designed by Sebastian Ciaffaglione, who did the character drawings in the book. Cute, yes? They are only small – roughly 7.5 x 10.5 cm (3″ x 4″) – and the idea is that, if you want your copy of Museum...
