Keepers Book 3: Path of Beasts

Hooray, I've just handed in Book 3! I finished it last week, did a final read-through on Monday, and emailed it to my agent Margaret Connolly yesterday morning. Now I am feeling both pleased at having finished, and slightly bereft. I suspect it's a bit like seeing your youngest child leave home. While I wait...

More on the Australian cover of 'City of Lies'

The Australian cover of City of Lies does the same nice keyhole thing as Museum of Thieves. But if you'd like to see the whole painting – and it's worth it – have a look at Seb Ciaffaglione's blog here.

If you're a budding author …

If you are a budding author, and sometimes despair over your work, you might be interested in an old diary entry that I found this morning when I was cleaning out the junk room. (It's wet, windy and bitterly cold outside.) It's from July 2006: 'Having finished (more or less) the second draft of the...

City of Lies – the Australian cover

Oh, I do love illustrators! It is so exciting seeing how they take your work and make it come to life. The US cover for City of Lies is beautiful, and now we also have the Australian cover, done by Sebastian Ciaffaglione. Both these covers are so exciting – you can almost feel the danger....

Lian on YouTube

When I was in Melbourne recently I recorded a couple of short promotional videos. Here's the one that has gone up on the Allen & Unwin (Australian publisher) website, and also on YouTube.

Drawings of Broo

Several years ago when I was still writing the first book in the trilogy, I used to go to Lauderdale Primary School several times a week to read chapters to one of the Grade 5 classes. At the end of it a lot of them did drawings of Broo – who is often a favourite...

Australian paperback

Here's the very nice cover of the Australian paperback version of Museum that's coming out in July. It's the same picture as in the 'keyhole' on the hard cover version, but you can see more of the museum. I particularly like the weird looking bird which is poking its beak out on the right hand side....

Trip to Melbourne

So last week I went to Melbourne, which has always been one of my favourite cities.  Went to visit my Australian publishers Allen &Unwin in their cute little terrace house, and had lunch with Eva Mills and Susannah Chambers, my two exceptionally talented and nice editors. Eva gave me my Aurealis Award, which some kind...

Aurealis Award

Hooray hooray hooray! I just had an email from my publisher to say that Museum of Thieves won the Aurealis Award for Children's Fiction (told primarily through words). These awards are for excellence in Australian speculative fiction, and I'm sitting here beaming all over my face. I had actually forgotten that they were being announced...
