Lian Tanner has been dynamited while scuba diving and arrested while busking. She once spent a week in the jungles of Papua New Guinea, hunting for a Japanese soldier left over from the Second World War. She likes secrets, old bones, and animals that are not what they seem. Nowadays she lives by the beach in southern Tasmania with a furry tomcat called Harry-le-beau.

Lian's bestselling fantasy series The Keepers is published in the USA, Australia and India, as well as being translated into eleven languages. Her second series, The Hidden, has been published in Australia/New Zealand and North America. Lian's new series, The Rogues, begins with 'Accidental Heroes' and will continue in October 2018 with 'Secret Guardians'.

Lian Tanner I'm just finishing off the third book in the Hidden series. At the moment it has a working title of 'Fetcher', but that will probably change.

And I like the third draft too, because that's when things begin to fall into place and it starts to look more like a proper book. But corrections and edits get a bit boring.

I realised recently that I no longer write just for fun, like I used to. I guess that's inevitable when I'm doing it for a living, but it's a pity - which is why I've recently started a blog for my cat, Harry. There are no deadlines, no plot, and I have no idea where it's going. It's just a chance for me to play. You can read Harry's blog at http://vampiremice.wordpress.com.(less)

It’s always interesting talking to a class that has read my books, because their questions are deeper and more specific. For example, at Warrane primary school last week, someone asked me, ‘Why does the magic in your books always involve wind?’

I had to think about that one. But yes, the boy who asked it was right, because Olga Ciavolga in Museum of Thieves had wind magic, and so does Duckling i...

This is one of those love it or hate it novels, and I'm firmly on the love it side. Which is odd, because I usually like a strong narrative, which this doesn't have. What it DOES have is an entrancing rhythm and a long slow look at the life of a vill ...more

Lian Tanner Georgina, your daughter is a fast reader! I'm so glad you both enjoyed the book. I don't know if you are anywhere near either Hobart or Launceston, but if you are, you might like to come to one of the launches of Book 3, which will be out shortly. Keep an eye on my facebook page for details. http://www.facebook.com/LianTannerAuthor. Or my blog. http://liantanner.com.au/whats-happening
