Lian Tanner has been dynamited while scuba diving and arrested while busking. She once spent a week in the jungles of Papua New Guinea, hunting for a Japanese soldier left over from the Second World War. She likes secrets, old bones, and animals that are not what they seem. Nowadays she lives by the beach in southern Tasmania with a furry tomcat called Harry-le-beau.

Lian's bestselling fantasy series The Keepers is published in the USA, Australia and India, as well as being translated into eleven languages. Her second series, The Hidden, has been published in Australia/New Zealand and North America. Lian's latest series, The Rogues, is set in the same world as The Keepers, and has been translated into Spanish.

Lian Tanner I'm just finishing off the third book in the Hidden series. At the moment it has a working title of 'Fetcher', but that will probably change.

And I like the third draft too, because that's when things begin to fall into place and it starts to look more like a proper book. But corrections and edits get a bit boring.

I realised recently that I no longer write just for fun, like I used to. I guess that's inevitable when I'm doing it for a living, but it's a pity - which is why I've recently started a blog for my cat, Harry. There are no deadlines, no plot, and I have no idea where it's going. It's just a chance for me to play. You can read Harry's blog at http://vampiremice.wordpress.com.(less)

Book launch

We had a book launch for A Clue for Clara two weeks ago, at the Hobart Bookshop in Salamanca Square. It was supposed to be deadly serious – well, except for the bit where Les Winspear and I were trying to explain what it was like to suddenly get a really good idea for a story.

Everything after that was meant to be sensible and dignified. But it’s hard to be dignified when a chook turns up in the mi

Very high on the list for my book of the year. Not only is it funny and sly, with innuendos that made me fall about laughing, but it manages to be warm hearted without ever falling into sentimentality. I wish I had an Uncle Pike.

The author is not a straight or a woman. They are bi, nonbinary author who wrote the book because of a lack of LGBT fiction in mainstream media. I suggest you do your research before you come here making claims to incite something. Plus, the amount o See Cece’s answer.

Wow. I like this even more than The Watchmaker of Filigree Street. It’s a bit darker, and the stakes are very high, but hugely atmospheric. Five stars.

Lian Tanner Georgina, your daughter is a fast reader! I'm so glad you both enjoyed the book. I don't know if you are anywhere near either Hobart or Launceston, but if you are, you might like to come to one of the launches of Book 3, which will be out shortly. Keep an eye on my facebook page for details. http://www.facebook.com/LianTannerAuthor. Or my blog. http://liantanner.com.au/whats-happening
