Hark, a Vagrant: Courtly Love

buy this print!

Courtly Love, so pure, so true! You might think of this one as a sequel to Peasant Romance. How the other half lives, as they say.

Oh and in case you're unfamiliar, Courtly Love does have some rules.

Have you seen those artist's Influence Maps going around? A meme as of late, you can find them if you poke around on google. Anyway, I'm late to the game but I did one as well, you can find it here.

The fundraising run was a great success! We raised over $3300 to support women in the Congo rebuilding their communities. Thanks so much to those who ran and to those who gave! Every little bit was a great help.

Hark, a Vagrant: gangsters

buy this print!

Some gangsters for you! The whole thing, I admit, began because of inspiration from this painting by Scott C. If you're not keeping up with his work, you gotta be kidding me.

Ontario folks may be seeing a sketch I made around town, for the latest Baby Eagle and Shotgun Jimmie tour. It's come a long way for a little doodle, I'm so flattered! Steve and Jimmie are old friends and make awesome ...

Hark, a Vagrant: Guest comic - Rebecca Clements

A guest comic today, you guys!

From the wonderful Rebecca Clements of KinokoFry - who treats us with not one, but four comics on her site! And three for me today! I must say, she has a talent to mimic my scribbles. Enjoy!

An exciting note: I did illustrations for this month's issue of The Walrus, my favorite magazine. Pick one up and check it out, if you are unfamiliar! Some of the illustrations are a...

Hark, a Vagrant: Nancy Drew 2

A funny thing about Nancy Drew is that even though I read all her books, there was that unwritten rule that Nancy Drew was for girls and Hardy Boys were for boys, so I've never read a Hardy Boys book. The boys in my class were very firm on this point. Calvin and Hobbes was also "for boys" for some reason (probably because Calvin hates girls), and so was a series of books called Dragon Lance. The Dragon...

Hark, a Vagrant: Nancy Drew 1

Gorey covers were so fun, I thought I'd give another kind a spin. When I was about 10 years old, I was put in the hospital for about two weeks. The only things they had to read there were the entire collection of Nancy Drew books, and I think I must have read all of them at that time.

I'm almost done moving, you guys. I will be so happy when it's done! Hopefully things will slow down then, and I can get...

Hark, a Vagrant: Join Or Die

buy this print!

A little comic update. I love political cartoons, I love studying them. And at times, as you may recall, I enjoy poking fun at them. They're almost as fun as statues.

Times have been pretty busy, I am moving to New York soon. So I am excited! But ah, the moving stresses.

But don't let me sit here wailing to you about this and that, let's have some news!

One, prints. The Charlie Chaplin...

Hark, a Vagrant: Jackson

buy this print!

Ah, Andrew Jackson. Love him or hate him (and these days my money is on the latter), you can't deny that he was a fascinating man. He did some good things. He did a lot of bad things. And it's not like in his time, no one thought to duke it out with him over it all. The man had so many musket balls in his body you could stick magnets to him.

He strikes me as a figure not often talked...

Ah, superhero comics!

Here is some BIG NEWS:

PRINTS are now for sale on this site! You'll notice under the comic it says "buy this print!", and clicking on that will lead to the Topatoco store where you can DO JUST THAT. Or you can do it straight from the Topatoco store itself. Amazing! I've been wanting to get this set up for a long time, and now it has thanks to my very good friends

Hark, a Vagrant: croquet

Working, working, weddings

Just to let you know! This week's comic will be late, but hopefully not skipped. I'm working on a few things and have a big ol' wedding to attend. The first of a few. I'm in my mid twenties, so I suppose I can expect in the next couple of years to have every August calendar page scrawled with the words "All Your Friends Are Getting Married, Every Week."

Here is an extra little...

Hark, a Vagrant: French Revolution Comics

Happy Belated Bastille Day!

Belated is the only kind of holiday we know around here.

Anyway. Ah, the French Revolution. It's one of those things where the utter madness of it all lends itself to great comedy, and it's been done! Perhaps you've seen the classic Start the Revolution Without Me, or read Dylan Meconis' absolutely wonderful comic Bite Me. Is "madcap" the word we are looking for here? Hmm..

It i...
