Flint Hills Wildflowers

Here are some pictures from one of our road trips into the Flint Hills. Most of these pictures were taken by our youngest daughter, who has a wonderful eye for photography.
I'm guessing at the name of some of these, so if I'm wrong, please correct me in the comments below.

Book Preview ~ Grace Unplugged

Grace Unplugged by Melody Carlson

Grace Trey is an eighteen-year-old singer as passionate about her Christian faith as she is her phenomenal, God-given musical talent. Both traits come from her father, one-hit wonder Johnny Tray who found Jesus after losing his chart success two decades ago.

When Grace encounters her own music break of a lifetime, the sudden dive into the "real world" puts her deeper beliefs to the test. Pop superstardom is just within reach but appears to require some spiritual compromise. Will Grace reject her faith, or will she own it?

Grace Unplugged is based on the motion picture of the same name starring AJ Michalka (Super 8) and Kevin Pollak (A Few Good Men). Buy the book HERE.

Melody Carlson has sold more than five million books. A professional writer for twenty years, she recently received the Romantic Times Career Achievement Award. Melody has two grown sons and lives with her husband in the Pacific Northwest. Learn more about Melody and her books HERE.

Mother's Day 2014

Our oldest daughter and her family stayed with us this past weekend to celebrate Mother's Day.
We had a quiet, relaxing day on Saturday, spending time with our little granddaughter, who is now walking as fast as her little legs will take her.
Pictured here at church on Sunday, our two younger daughters and my dear sweet mother-in-law.
Love this photo of our oldest daughter and her baby.
Sunday afternoon, we went to my folks' house for dinner and captured another 5-generation photo with my grandma, mom, daughter, and granddaughter. Pretty special.
What about you? Did you spend Mother's Day with your loved ones? Share in the comments below.

Book Preview ~ Perfectly Matched

Perfectly Matched by Maggie Brendan

Anna Olsen knows it's time to leave her sister's increasingly crowded house and start a life of her own. Following her sisters' examples, she becomes a mail-order bride, and after a short correspondence with clock maker and jeweler Edward Parker, she moves to Denver to become his wife. Almost immediately it's painfully apparent that Anna and Edward are very different. Anna is a free spirit who would rather be painting and enjoying the company of friends than cleaning house. Edward is a consummate perfectionist who, on their wedding day, hands Anna a list of chores that need to be done around the house daily.

Can this mismatched couple see past their differences to a harmonious future? Or will their disparate passions create obstacles neither is willing to surmount?

Maggie Brendan closes her Blue Willow Brides series with a heartwarming tale of true love despite misunderstanding, showing readers that God's timing is always perfect. Buy the book HERE.

Maggie Brendan is the bestselling author of several books, including the Heart of the
West series and The Blue Willow Brides series. Book Preview ~ Fifteen Minutes

Fifteen Minutes by Karen Kingsbury

Zack Dylan has a dream. He wants to sing on the biggest stages, for the biggest crowds, and he’ll do whatever it takes to make it come true. But Zack also made a promise to his college sweetheart when he left Kentucky to compete on the popular TV show, Fifteen Minutes: If he made it, nothing would change him or his faith in God.
Overnight, Zack becomes the nation’s most popular contestant, a country singer comparable to a young Tim McGraw. As his star rises, Zack is often asked to compromise and quiet his beliefs. Just as he’s on the verge of winning it all, his choices lead him to the brink of personal disaster. Meanwhile, a former Fifteen Minutes winner is searching for meaning amidst her own private losses. Can she warn Zack about the real price of fame? Or will Zack lose everything he loves for his fifteen minutes of glory? Buy the book HERE.

Kansas Sampler Festival

This Friday, we will be traveling north to Wamego for the Kansas Sampler Festival, where our daughters, The Vogts Sisters, will be performing.

Known as the state’s largest traveling festival, this event is primarily a travel show and an opportunity to showcase the best of Kansas to visitors looking for stay-cation and day trip ideas. For those looking to book Kansas musicians and historic performers, this is the perfect place to enjoy our state’s talent and book them for local or regional events.

This “all Kansas, all weekend” event will be held in Wamego at the City Park on Saturday, May 3 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday, May 4 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

The festival is designed to provide the public a sample of what there is to see, do, hear, taste, learn, and buy in Kansas. In addition to the entertainment and historic performances, the festival will also showcase community attractions, Kansas products, and Kansas foods. Entertainers and all historic performers will also have booths. More than 150 communities will be represented at this Kansas celebration, including several from SE Kansas. Learn more about the festival HERE.

A project of the Inman-based Kansas Sampler Foundation, the festival was originally held on the Penner Farm near Inman for eight years and then has made two-year stops in Pratt, Ottawa, Independence, Newton, Garden City, Concordia, Leavenworth and Liberal.

We are looking forward to our time in Wamego and hope to meet lots of new friends and listeners there! If you plan to go, please make plans to stop by one of the girls' shows.

They will be performing on the Sunset Stage (West Side Park) on Saturday from 10:30 - 11:00 AM, and on the Sunrise Stage (East Side Park) on Sunday afternoon from 1:45-2:15. They'll also have shows in the Southeast Kansas Tent located on the Sunset Campus just north of the Wamego Historical Museum. Hope to see you there! Click HERE for a view of the festival map.
