Our Weekend with Emma

We had the pleasure of keeping our granddaughter last weekend while her parents went to New York City. Emma is now 2 1/2 years old and so much FUN!
We carved a pumpkin, and had her first wiener roast.
We played lots of games, and had a picnic, and a tea party, and played with the kitty cats. It's always fun spending time with out little Emma Bug. Enjoy the moments . . .

Book Preview ~ From the Start

From the Start, by Melissa Tagg

Kate Walker used to believe in true love and happily ever after. While her own love life may have left her brokenhearted, it hasn't kept her from churning out made-for-TV romance movie screenplays...until a major career slump and a longing to do something meaningful send her running back to her hometown of Maple Valley.

Permanently sidelined by an injury, former NFL quarterback Colton Greene is temporarily hiding out in a friend's hometown to avoid the media and the reminders of all he's lost. Maple Valley seems like the perfect place to learn how to adjust to normal life. The only trouble is he's never really done normal before.

While Kate plays things safe and Colton is all about big risks and grand gestures, they both get what it's like to desperately need direction in life. An unexpected project gives them both a chance to jumpstart their new lives, but old wounds and new dreams are hard to ignore. Starting over wasn't part of the plan, but could it be the best thing that's ever happened to them? Purchase the book HERE.

Melissa Tagg, author of Made to Last and Here to Stay, is a former newspaper reporter, current nonprofit grant writer, and total Iowa girl. Visiting Oklahoma City

This fall, we've had the opportunity to schedule several weekend trips--our most recent one to Oklahoma City, where our daughters performed at the Rodeo Opry.
This was such a fun venue--much different than our normal outings to coffee houses and city festivals.
The Vogts Sisters shared the stage with seven different music acts, including Owen Pickard, Chasity Watkins, Olivia Kay, Kaitlin Butts, and Steven Jeffrey...
and the featured act, Mo Pitney--an up and coming county singer to keep your eyes on.We loved his music and his humble personality.

Book Preview ~ Together with You

Together with You, by Victoria Bylin

Sometimes the most unexpected love can be exactly what a heart needs...
When a Lost Child warning blares over the mall's PA system, Carly Mason finds the little girl playing with a stuffed rabbit. Something about Penny Tremaine is different. An ex-social worker, Carly recognizes that the child suffers fetal alcohol effects, and a piece of Carly's past suddenly confronts her. Never again will she become personally involved with a client. The risks are far too great. But something about Penny--and Penny's handsome father--tugs at Carly's heart.

Dr. Ryan Tremaine is trying to put his life back together. With his ex-wife remarried and on a trip far away, his two teenage sons and Penny are living under his roof full time. Ryan has put his faith in his Sink-or-Swim list, a plan to reconnect with his children. The first step: recruit Carly Mason to be Penny's nanny.

Ryan never anticipated being so drawn to Carly, an attraction Carly seems to fight as much as he does. Could Carly be the missing piece that helps his family stay afloat, or will their blossoming romance only complicate things further?

Known for her realistic and engaging characters, Victoria Bylin delivers an emotion-packed story reminiscent of The Sound of Music, one that reminds us all to believe in the power of faith and love. Purchase the book HERE.

Our Weekend in Eureka Springs

It's been a long time since we've visited Eureka Springs, Arkansas. As a girl, I remember the hills and winding roads...and how it made me carsick in the backseat. Now that I'm older, it doesn't bother me as much, and I'm able to enjoy the beautiful scenery.
Our daughters were finalists in a Singer-Songwriter competition for the Ozark Folk Festival last weekend. And they won! Yay!
They also performed at The Stone House, which had this amazing courtyard.
We shopped in the historic downtown area, toured the 1886 Crescent Hotel, and went to see the statue of Christ in the Ozarks.
My folks joined us for the weekend in their RV, so we ate supper with them one night. Life is good. Enjoy the moments . . .

Book Preview ~ The Accidental Empress

The Accidental Empress by Allison Pataki

The year is 1853, and the Habsburgs are Europe’s most powerful ruling family. With his empire stretching from Austria to Russia, from Germany to Italy, Emperor Franz Joseph is young, rich, and ready to marry.

Fifteen-year-old Elisabeth, “Sisi,” Duchess of Bavaria, travels to the Habsburg Court with her older sister, who is betrothed to the young emperor. But shortly after her arrival at court, Sisi finds herself in an unexpected dilemma: she has inadvertently fallen for and won the heart of her sister’s groom. Franz Joseph reneges on his earlier proposal and declares his intention to marry Sisi instead.

Thrust onto the throne of Europe’s most treacherous imperial court, Sisi upsets political and familial loyalties in her quest to win, and keep, the love of her emperor, her people, and of the world.

With Pataki’s rich period detail and cast of complex, bewitching characters, The Accidental Empress offers “another absolutely compelling story” (Mary Higgins Clark) with this glimpse into one of history’s most intriguing royal families, shedding new light on the glittering Hapsburg Empire and its most mesmerizing, most beloved “Fairy Queen.” Purchase the book HERE.

Allison Pataki is the New York Times bestselling author of The Traitor’s Wife and The Accidental Empress.

She graduated Cum Laude from Yale University with a major in English and spent several years writing for TV and online news outlets. The daughter of former New York State Governor George E. Pataki, Allison is a regular contributor to Huffington Post and FoxNews.com, as well as a member of The Historical Novel Society. Allison lives in Chicago with her husband.
