Interview with a Succubus

One woman, one man, one deal with the devil.

One woman, one man, one deal with the devil.

In one week, I’ll be on a two-week blog tour for the re-release of Straight to Hell.   There will be excerpts from the book, interviews, guest posts, and a terrific prize package for several winners.  I am so excited!

To prepare for this amazing event, I thought I’d introduce you to the cast of Straight to Hell, beginning with Lilith herself.  This little Q & A will continue from now until launch day, ending with the incubus himself, William Benedict.

Welcome, Lilith Straight

Q: Describe yourself in three words.

Lilith: Would that be before my life fell apart or afterwards?  Before the fire, the divorce, and the expanded family, I was organized,  efficient, and well-groomed.  Afterwards, I became (as much as I hate to admit it) sloppy, frazzled, and desperate.

Q: You have a daughter, correct?  What’s your relationship like?

Lilith: Yes, my daughter Grace.  We’re very close, especially since my divorce.  We like to cuddle together on the couch every night and watch her favorite shows on Disney and Nickelodeon.  She’s going through a phase where she’s dying to learn how to play the French horn.  She’s the sweetest, gentlest child on the planet; although, since she’s only eight, she’s not one for dressing up.  Honestly, Grace is my everything.  There’s nothing I wouldn’t do for that child.  Something that, unfortunately, plays right into my evil overlord’s hands.

Q: Who’s the one person, living or dead, you’d like to have dinner with?

Lilith: My great-great-great-great-great grandmother, Sarah Goodswain.  Only, it wouldn’t be dinner.  It would be more like a last meal since I’d kill her all over again for getting me into this mess.  More than anything, I want to know why on earth she made a deal with the Devil that included all of her progeny.  Sure, she didn’t want to be hanged as a witch, but did she have to drag the rest of us into the mess?

Q: Any men in your life?

Lilith: HAH!  Next question…Okay, fine.  You’re not talking about my cheating ex-husband by any chance, are you?  No, of course, you want to know about William Benedict, the incubus.  All I’ll say is that there are times when that man rescues me from Hell, and times when he plops me right back in the middle of it.  And, no, I don’t want a relationship with him.  No way.  Uh-huh.   Forget about it.  I don’t care how delicious he is.  I mean, he thinks he is.

Straight to Hell is now available on Amazon, and Amazon UK.

Tea

FallI’ve been teaching poetry this semester, and it’s made me realize how much I love this art form.  With only a few words, poets can express so much.

This morning was cold, about forty degrees, and damp.  Inside, however, I snuggled under an afghan, listened to my favorite music playing on the iPod, and held a cup of tea in my hands.  Looking at the raw weather outside my window, I was reminded of one of my favorite poems by Wallace Stevens.

Tea

When the elephant’s-ear in the park

Shrivelled in frost,

And the leaves on the paths

Ran like rats,

Your lamp-light fell

On shining pillows,

Of sea-shades and sky-shades,

Like umbrellas in Java.

FREE – Stage Fright

Stage Fright

Stage Fright

For the next two days, my urban fantasy, Stage Fright is FREE on Amazon.

Cassandra Jaber’s dream of acting becomes a nightmare when she blacks out on stage during a private audition. She awakes, sore and disoriented, with a three-hour hole in her memory and a crippling fear of the spotlight. Although she tries to piece her shattered life back together, she remains at the mercy of the dark secret locked away in her mind.

But when a mysterious man, who calls himself a guardian of the night, rescues her from a terrifying attacker, Cassandra’s eyes are opened to a fantastic world she never guessed existed. She soon realizes that her midnight rescuer holds the key to her salvation. And her heart.

An Organized Mess

Today, I was inspired to clean out my jewelry drawer.  That’s right.  I do not have a box, I have a drawer.  None of my jewelry is expensive, but I love anything in the color bling, so I’ve collected a lot of costume pieces.  Generally, they are all tossed into the top drawer of my dresser which looks like this:

IMG_0006Sick of pawing through the mess every morning, I decided to organize.  I wasn’t how to sort it, but when I opened the cutlery drawer in the kitchen this morning, inspiration struck.  If a silverware organizer worked on eating utensils, why not on jewelry?  One trip to Walmart and $10.00 later, I was the proud owner of a bamboo cutlery organizer.  The organizer had additional, pull-out sides, and it fit so well into the drawer it was as if the dresser was made for it.  Now, my jewelry drawer looks like this:

IMG_0008Much better, wouldn’t you say?

Twitterific – How Writers Can Use Twitter

Today, I’m visiting the blog, Practical Marketing for Romance Writers[image error] (although, there is plenty of advice over there for ALL writers!)  I’m listing a few ways in which writers can use Twitter as a marketing tool without aggressively pushing their books.  It’s all about making connections!

Music to Write By

Retro / Music / WoodWhen I write, I have to have my tunes!  I usually go for moody electronica, but I also like acoustic guitar ala Nick Drake.

I pride myself in having eclectic tastes, but only when I’m feeling snooty. Usually, I’m comfortable with more popular tunes by Mumford and Sons and The Black Keys.

Here’s a Spotify playlist of some of my favorite music to write by.  I hope you enjoy!
