Feathered Quill Interview with “Little Boy Blue” Author Kim Kavin
The editorial team at Feathered Quill Book Reviews liked “Little Boy Blue” so much that they not only published a stellar review, but also requested an extended interview with the author.
Some of the hard-hitting questions that Feathered Quill asked include:
When I read about your initial encounter with Ron Shaw, the Animal Control Officer for Person County, North Carolina, I thought, “Wow, that lady isn’t afraid of anything.” You asked really tough questions and didn’t back down. During the encounter, were you a little nervous?
and
You don’t mince words in your book and you also don’t protect anybody you encountered from the truth of what they are doing, when it comes to the welfare of dogs. The chapter where you visit Annie Turner’s home comes to mind. Was it a difficult decision to include mention of these people in your book?
Read the full responses to these questions and more in the Feathered Quill Book Reviews interview with “Little Boy Blue” author Kim Kavin.

“If you love dogs, this is one book you must read”
Feathered Quill Book Reviews just published its review of “Little Boy Blue.” Our favorite line is: “If you love dogs, this is one book you must read.”
The reviewer says “Little Boy Blue” changed her plans for her next dog, which will now be a rescue.
We are thrilled to reply with a hearty woo-hoo!
The reviewer’s broader comments include:
“Anger, heartbreak, and happiness are just a few of the emotions you’ll experience as you read this book. Kavin is not timid, and goes right to the people in charge of the shelters to ask the how, why, and how-could-you questions that you, too, will want answered. She introduces the reader to numerous groups working, against the odds, to save as many dogs as possible. And while she uses plenty of statistics and facts to back up everything she says, the book reads like a mystery unfolding and not a technical journal on the world of animal shelters. If you love dogs, this is one book you must read. It’s too important not to bring to light the awful truths surrounding our ‘throw-away’ dogs.”

Longtime Rescue Advocate Calls “Little Boy Blue” Most Insightful Book of Its Kind
Readers who received advance copies of “Little Boy Blue” last week at Book Expo America are now beginning to send their comments. Today, we received the following e-mail from Julie Ogden, who has more than two decades’ worth of experience in dog rescue. She is an organizer of DogFest, an organizer of Pets & Heroes, and an active member of The Last Resort Rescue. Julie has fostered more than 1,000 dogs in her rescue work.
Here is what Julie has to say about “Little Boy Blue”:
“Your book ‘Little Boy Blue’ got into my hands because one of the industry experts at your New York expo considered me the expert when it came to dog rescue. I am her daughter’s sixth-grade teacher but am far better known as the ‘dog lady.’ She wanted me to give her an opinion on the book. I wanted to let you know that it is the most insightful, on-target book I have ever read on the subject. You have hit on every issue currently existing within our underworld of rescue from sadistic shelters and bad rescues to overwhelmed workers who are sickened by what they do and the rescues who rise above and try to do the right thing.
“My husband and I have been pulling animals both locally in New Jersey and from the South for over 20 years and in that time have fostered over 1,000 dogs. I have tried hard to share with people all the knowledge I have gained, and with your book coming out, I now have a powerful tool in my hand. I am going to recommend it to everyone!”

A Thousand People Line Up for Little Boy Blue at Book Expo America
“Little Boy Blue” author Kim Kavin and her dog, Blue, spent several hours signing advance copies of the book yesterday at the Barron’s booth at Book Expo America. It was Blue’s first-ever trip to New York City (or any major city, for that matter), his first time in a huge parking garage, his first time walking across a road with more than two lanes, his first time walking past food carts on the street, his first time going into a convention center, and his first time being exposed to hundreds upon hundreds of strangers who lined up to pet him and meet the author.
At the end of the afternoon, Kim had signed more than 900 advance copies of “Little Boy Blue” and about a thousand people had pet Blue, taken photos with him, and taught him how wonderful most human beings are compared with the ones who left him for dead in a gas-chamber shelter two years ago. Blue especially liked the three-year-old boy in line who tried to share his lollipop, as well as the woman in the motorized wheelchair who gave him a treat and taught him that people in moving chairs are not scary, but instead very nice.
Here are some photos from yesterday’s signing at Book Expo America. “Little Boy Blue” is due out in hardcover from Barron’s on September 1.

The line for signed advance copies was out the booth and into the corridor all day long. Kim signed more than 900 books yesterday.
Happy fans of “Little Boy Blue” getting autographed copies of the advance bound edition.

She says: “It wasn’t exactly what we had on our minds, but I read it and it was such a heart-wrenching story, I couldn’t put it down.”
