Editing for CLOAK OF ASHES is now underway, so let’s have a look at the cover image, which was designed by Natasha Snow.
If all goes well, the book will be out in April and available on all ebook platforms.

CLOAK OF ASHES rough draft done!
I am pleased to report that the rough draft of CLOAK OF ASHES is done!
It’s just under 95,000 words, which makes it officially the longest Nadia book to date.
Next up I’m going to write SILENT GAZE, a CLOAK MAGE short story I’ll give away to newsletter subscribers when CLOAK OF ASHES comes out next month.

CLOAK OF ASHES, a brief excerpt
15 chapters of CLOAK OF ASHES down, 6 to go. Let’s kick off a new week with a brief excerpt from CLOAK OF ASHES!

The anthrophages were human-shaped, but gaunt and wiry, their skins a mottled gray color. Bloated corpses could sometimes turn that color. Black claws jutted from their fingers and toes, and a row of black spikes jutted from their spines. Their eyes were a venomous yellow color, like sulfur, and the creatures had no noses, only triangular black pits.
One of the creatures was right next to me. I could smell its rotting carrion stink, could see the jagged fangs as its mouth opened wide to bite out my throat.
I cast a spell, sheathing my hand in an invisible gauntlet of telekinetic force, and I punched the anthrophage in its ugly face. I had put a lot of power in the spell, and the impact basically ripped off the top half of the anthrophage’s skull, leaving its jaw attached to its neck. Black slime spurted from the wound, and the anthrophage’s body staggered past me to collapse against the ground.
With a snarl of fury, I stalked towards the charging anthrophage mob…

10k words of CLOAK OF ASHES!
Yesterday I wrote 10,000 words of CLOAK OF ASHES, for my first 10k day of 2020!
I really can’t be too triumphant about it, though. The truth is there is a lot of other stuff I usually have to do, but now I can’t do any of it. So I figured I might as well put those extra hours into writing.
On the plus side, I think CLOAK OF ASHES will be the longest Nadia book to date! It might be the first one over 100k.

Kindle Unlimited lets you make a book temporarily free, so over the next few weeks, I’m going give away the first ten books in the Caina series one at a time (CHILD OF THE GHOSTS through GHOST IN THE COWL). I’d say I would do one every day, but in case of Technical Difficulties (one of the consistent themes of 2020, alas) I’ll give one away for free every two to three days.

PROJECT COLOSSUS completed!
I am pleased to report that my audiobook project codenamed PROJECT COLOSSUS is at last completed!
It is an enormous audiobook at 39 hours in length, gathered over the last three years, and the final hour was just recorded this week. The audiobook has been uploaded and is currently grinding its way through the approval checks on ACX on its way to Audible. Of course, ACX was already running really slow before the advent of the Great Virus, and it’s doubtful that it will speed up any time soon. The way things are going, PROJECT COLOSSUS probably won’t be available until summer or later.
But when it does arrive, I look forward to sharing it!
Soon, we shall witness the duration of this fully armed and operational audiobook.
