He Died for You
This video reminds us that Jesus' sufferings on the cross on Good Friday were for you and for me. He was sinless, but He took on the sins of the world so we can be forgiven and washed clean. All we have to do is proclaim Him Lord.

Good Friday 2011
But he, desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?" Jesus replied, "A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him and beat him and departed, leaving him half dead. Now by chance a priest was going down that road, and when he saw him he passed by on the other side. So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was, and when he saw him, he had compassion. He went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he set him on his own animal and brought him to an inn and took care of him. And the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, 'Take care of him, and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I come back.' Which of these three, do you think, proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?" He said, "The one who showed him mercy." And Jesus said to him, "You go, and do likewise." ~ Luke 10:29-37 (ESV)
Heavenly Father, I want to be the good Samaritan, yet I find myself looking the other way—walking on the other side of the road—to avoid having to deal with pain and suffering. Turn my eyes and my feet to those in need that I may follow the example of Jesus, who served those who needed it most. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Jesus Washes His Disciples' Feet
On Maundy Thursday, as Jesus shared the Passover meal with His disciples, He instituted Holy Communion, washed the feet of His disciples as a servant (see video below), told His disciples He was going to the Father, promised the Comforter (the Holy Ghost), commanded the disciples to love one another, and shared the final thoughts of His earthly life.
You can read the whole story of Jesus' final lessons—in words and actions—in John 13-17.
After the Last Supper came the Garden of Gethsemane and Jesus' arrest and betrayal. At our church, the Vigil at the Altar of Repose begins following the Maundy Thursday service. As Jesus asked His disciples to watch with Him for one hour, parishioners watch at the Altar of Repose.

Maundy Thursday 2011
And he told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart. He said, "In a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor respected man. And there was a widow in that city who kept coming to him and saying, 'Give me justice against my adversary.' For a while he refused, but afterward he said to himself, 'Though I neither fear God nor respect man, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will give her justice, so that she will not beat me down by her continual coming.'" And the Lord said, "Hear what the unrighteous judge says. And will not God give justice to his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them? I tell you, he will give justice to them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?" ~ Luke 18:1-8 (ESV)
Thank You, Lord, that You are gracious and compassionate. If the unjust judge gave justice to the widow for her persistence, how much more will You give grace and mercy to us when we persist in our requests. In the name of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Ghost, ever one God, world without end. Amen.

And he said to them, "Which of you who has a friend will go to him at midnight and say to him, 'Friend, lend me three loaves, for a friend of mine has arrived on a journey, and I have nothing to set before him'; and he will answer from within, 'Do not bother me; the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed. I cannot get up and give you anything'? I tell you, though he will not get up and give him anything because he is his friend, yet because of his impudence he will rise and give him whatever he needs. ~ Luke 11:5-8 (ESV)
Lord, I need this reminder to be persistent. When prayer isn't answered right away, It's so easy to think that You don't hear. Yet I have seen in my own life that You want us to continue to ask, to communicate with You for You healed me of my jumping after years of prayer. Give me the strength and the wisdom to persist. In Jesus' name. Amen.

"Or what woman, having ten silver coins, if she loses one coin, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and seek diligently until she finds it? And when she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, 'Rejoice with me, for I have found the coin that I had lost.' Just so, I tell you, there is joy before the angels of God over one sinner who repents." ~ Luke 15:8-10 (ESV)
Lord, You love each of us as if we were Your only child, Your only coin. That love is beyond my understanding, but I am eternally grateful for it. In the name of Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Ghost, ever one God, world without end. Amen.

Monday in Holy Week
So he told them this parable: "What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open country, and go after the one that is lost, until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, 'Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep that was lost.' Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance. ~ Luke 15:3-7 (ESV)
Thank You, Lord, that You care for each of Your sheep as if we were Your only sheep. In the name of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior. Amen.

Palm Sunday 2011
Now when they drew near to Jerusalem and came to Bethphage, to the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples, saying to them, "Go into the village in front of you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her. Untie them and bring them to me. If anyone says anything to you, you shall say, 'The Lord needs them,' and he will send them at once." This took place to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet, saying, "Say to the daughter of Zion, 'Behold, your king is coming to you, humble, and mounted on a donkey, and on a colt, the foal of a beast of burden.'" The disciples went and did as Jesus had directed them. They brought the donkey and the colt and put on them their cloaks, and he sat on them. Most of the crowd spread their cloaks on the road, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. And the crowds that went before him and that followed him were shouting, "Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!" And when he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred up, saying, "Who is this?" And the crowds said, "This is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth of Galilee." ~ Matthew 21:1-11 (ESV)
Lord, the crowds hailed Jesus when he entered Jerusalem on Palm Sunday humbly riding on a donkey, yet soon they were calling for His death. May I honor and worship Him forever as the crowds did only for a short time. In His name. Amen.

Sixth Saturday in Lent 2011
"Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was thrown into the sea and gathered fish of every kind. When it was full, men drew it ashore and sat down and sorted the good into containers but threw away the bad. So it will be at the close of the age. The angels will come out and separate the evil from the righteous and throw them into the fiery furnace. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. ~ Matthew 13:47-50 (ESV)
Lord, lead me to live my life here on earth so that at the end of time, You will sort me into the containers with the good. In Jesus' name. Amen.
