Scripture for Wednesday after the Fourth Sunday in Lent 2013
23 And Jesus said to him, “‘If You can?’ All things are possible to him who believes.” 24 Immediately the boy’s father cried out and said, “I do believe; help my unbelief.” ~ Mark 9:23-24 (NASB)
Lord, I believe. Help my unbelief! In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Scripture for Tuesday after the Fourth Sunday in Lent 2013
2 Six days later, Jesus *took with Him Peter and James and John, and *brought them up on a high mountain by themselves. And He was transfigured before them; 3 and His garments became radiant and exceedingly white, as no launderer on earth can whiten them. 4 Elijah appeared to them along with Moses; and they were talking with Jesus. 5 Peter *said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; let us make three tabernacles, one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” 6 For he did not know what to answer; for they became terrified. 7 Then a cloud formed, overshadowing them, and a voice came out of the cloud, “This is My beloved Son, listen to Him!” 8 All at once they looked around and saw no one with them anymore, except Jesus alone. 9 As they were coming down from the mountain, He gave them orders not to relate to anyone what they had seen, until the Son of Man rose from the dead. 7 Then a cloud formed, overshadowing them, and a voice came out of the cloud, “This is My beloved Son, listen to Him!” ~ Mark 9:2-7 (NASB)
Lord, open my ears to listen to Jesus and to follow Him. In His name. Amen.

Scripture for Monday after the Fourth Sunday in Lent 2013
34 And He summoned the crowd with His disciples, and said to them, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me. 35 For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it. 36 For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul? ~ Mark 8:34-36 (NASB)
Lord, although I am tempted by the lures of the world, in truth, I want to take up my cross and follow Jesus so I do not forfeit my soul. In the name of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior. Amen.

Scripture for the Fourth Sunday in Lent 2013
31 And He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again. 32 And He was stating the matter plainly. And Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him. 33 But turning around and seeing His disciples, He rebuked Peter and said, “Get behind Me, Satan; for you are not setting your mind on God’s interests, but man’s.” ~ Mark 8:31-33 (NASB)
Heavenly Father, even Peter couldn’t understand why Jesus had to go through Calvary. Even the humanity of Jesus was tempted by the thought of not having to die. Yet the divinity of Jesus ensured that He followed through on Your plan, at horrible cost to Him, for His love of us. Help me to appreciate the great sacrifice of Christ’s atonement and to live my life for You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Scripture for Saturday after the Third Sunday in Lent 2013
27 Jesus went out, along with His disciples, to the villages of Caesarea Philippi; and on the way He questioned His disciples, saying to them, “Who do people say that I am?” 28 They told Him, saying, “John the Baptist; and others say Elijah; but others, one of the prophets.” 29 And He continued by questioning them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered and said to Him, “You are the Christ.” 30 And He warned them to tell no one about Him. ~ Mark 8:27-30 (NASB)
Heavenly Father, Peter knew Jesus was the Christ, the Messiah, the Savior of the World, and I thank You that Jesus is my personal Lord and Savior. In His name. Amen.

Scripture for Friday after the Third Sunday in Lent 2013
22 And they came to Bethsaida. And they brought a blind man to Jesus and implored Him to touch him. 23 Taking the blind man by the hand, He brought him out of the village; and after spitting on his eyes and laying His hands on him, He asked him, “Do you see anything?” 24 And he looked up and said, “I see men, for I see them like trees, walking around.” 25 Then again He laid His hands on his eyes; and he looked intently and was restored, and began to see everything clearly. 26 And He sent him to his home, saying, “Do not even enter the village.” ~ Mark 8:22-26 (NASB)
Thank You, Lord, for Your healing touch for the blind man in Bethsaida and for me today. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Scripture for Thursday after the Third Sunday in Lent 2013
14 And they had forgotten to take bread, and did not have more than one loaf in the boat with them. 15 And He was giving orders to them, saying, “Watch out! Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.” 16 They began to discuss with one another the fact that they had no bread. 17 And Jesus, aware of this, said to them, “Why do you discuss the fact that you have no bread? Do you not yet see or understand? Do you have a hardened heart? 18 HAVING EYES, DO YOU NOT SEE? AND HAVING EARS, DO YOU NOT HEAR? And do you not remember, 19 when I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces you picked up?” They said to Him, “Twelve.” 20 “When I broke the seven for the four thousand, how many large baskets full of broken pieces did you pick up?” And they said to Him, “Seven.” 21 And He was saying to them, “Do you not yet understand?”
Heavenly Father, I have eyes to see and ears to hear. Let me always see Your miracles and Your love and always hear Your voice. In the name of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Ghost, ever one God, world without end. Amen.

Thanks to Commenters Goes Quarterly
My regular readers know how much I appreciate comments—so much so that I post a thank-you to commenters once a month. Since I started that practice, a couple of things have changed. One is that I have reduced by posting from three times a week to twice a week because of time limitations. The other is that commenting on my blog (and most blogs I know about) has decreased. People are spending more time on social media and not as much reading blogs. And when they do read blogs, many do as I do and read in a feed reader, so commenting requires another step to go to the blog to comment. I know I don’t comment as much as I used to because I’m always in a hurry. Sometimes I feel inclined to comment, but pass on by because while I have something to say, the compulsion to speak my mind is overcome by the need to watch my time.
Therefore, I will be posting thanks to commenters once a quarter, rather than once a month. So the next comment thanks will be in April for the first quarter. Please leave many comments in the meantime.

Scripture for Wednesday after the Third Sunday in Lent 2013
37 They were utterly astonished, saying, “He has done all things well; He makes even the deaf to hear and the mute to speak.” ~ Mark 7:37 (NASB)
Heavenly Father, the people were astonished at the healing miracles Jesus did. Yet You do all things well even in the normal order of creation. How amazing are Your creations! Even more remarkable is Your love for Your children. Help us to appreciate and be astonished by the “ordinary” and “everyday” miracles that You have done from the beginning of time. Thank You for our creation and sustenance, but most of all, for the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross that ensures my salvation and my eternity in Heaven with You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Scripture for Tuesday after the Third Sunday in Lent
24 Jesus got up and went away from there to the region of Tyre. And when He had entered a house, He wanted no one to know of it; yet He could not escape notice. 25 But after hearing of Him, a woman whose little daughter had an unclean spirit immediately came and fell at His feet. 26 Now the woman was a Gentile, of the Syrophoenician race. And she kept asking Him to cast the demon out of her daughter. 27 And He was saying to her, “Let the children be satisfied first, for it is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.” 28 But she answered and said to Him, “Yes, Lord, but even the dogs under the table feed on the children’s crumbs.” 29 And He said to her, “Because of this answer go; the demon has gone out of your daughter.” 30 And going back to her home, she found the child lying on the bed, the demon having left. ~ Mark 7:24-30 (NASB)
Heavenly Father, give me the faith and courage of the Syrophoenician woman. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
