“Zombees” Part 2 – Featuring my first dubstep track

“Zombees” is a comedy horror short by the always great Jay Lee for the Soiled Britches Youtube channel. Part 2 features my first attempt and possibly last at dubstep as a genre.

Ocelot Robot – Etheldo – Review on Indie Rock Cafe

Their music has the unmistakably, easily-identifiable Los Angeles pop rock sound – sunny, sugary, meticulously produced and engineered pop geared for radio. It’s LA; they can’t help themselves. It’s just interesting how we can listen to a band for the first time, and without even looking up where they’re from, be able to gamble high that it’s an LA band. Those of you (and it’s probably most of you) that really know your music spanning decades will have no trouble hearing what we’re talking about 30 to 45 seconds into Ocelot Robot’s single, “Back To Buffalo,” which, by the way, is a great song, even though it’s not our usual fare; we don’t usually like overly produced music, but in this case, it works, and therefore deserves a mention for listeners’ to make up their own minds.

HA! Apparently all “indie” rock records have to sound shitty to be “indie” rock. I love it. It’s nice to be featured, if even on an indie (read: shitty) blog. Amazing.

Review: Ocelot Robot Album Release Show

Last Thursday, I witnessed one of my favorite emerging pop rock acts out of Los Angeles in Ocelot Robot. This group knows how to shred as they headlined a kick ass concert at Molly Malone’s in Los Angeles for their new album release, Etheldo (iTunes).

I love how their set started with harmonized vocals really getting the crowd to sing along to new hits like “Undercover” and “Lost in L.A.”. Ocelot Robot is kind of a throwback band and unlike many of the new bands coming out in that you know your going to get a kick ass show seeing the quartet of drummer, guitarist, bassist and lead vocalist. However they jam out, are super fun to watch and even did an unexpected rocking cover of Rihanna‘s “Stay”, which everybody seemed to enjoy.

Look out for an upcoming music video from the band but until then, stream Etheldo below. My favorite songs are “Back To Buffalo”, “Undercover”, Lost In L.A.” and “Black Mini Skirt”. Stream and DOWNLOAD below.

Ocelot Robot – Etheldo Album Review

Ocelot Robot – Etheldo

Ocelot Robot is an LA rock band consisting of fun guys with a fun name that put on a fun live show. It’s no surprise that their new album Etheldo is filled with a collection of songs that are a lot of fun to listen to.

“Back to Buffalo” and “Undercover” kick off the album with catchy hooks and choruses that’ll get stuck in your head. With all the synth and electro/dance music dominating the alternative music scene these days, it’s refreshing and at the same time nostalgic to press play and hear the crunch of guitars. The guys from Ocelot Robot play the type of guitar driven rock with catchy pop sensibilities that made you love bands like Eve6 and Fenix TX.

“Lately” which we are thrilled to premiere today, packs one of the biggest punches on the album and serves as a perfect representation of Etheldo and the band in general.

It’s not all hard-charging “rowdy rock” though. “Told You So” slows the tempo a bit and features a more subtle, yet no less effective chorus. The song is one that might not stand out on first listen with the huge choruses in the tracks surrounding it, but after a few listens, “Told You So” emerges as a standout song on the album. “Kenneth” throws us a surprise, showcasing the grit and edge to the band in its brisk 1:51.

Etheldo is such a pleasantly consistent album, with the quality remaining high all the way through. “Lost in L.A.” is a classic California summer song meant to be played in the car with the windows down (see: themusic video!) One of the most addicting tracks on the album, the Motion City Soundtrack-esque “Black Mini Skirt” brims with energy and is sure to be a crowd favorite.

As with any of my reviews—no stars, numbers, scores, ratings, thumbs, etc. Just meat and potatoes…do I recommend the album? Hell yes. Will you like it? If you like genuine songwriting and guitar driven rock/alt/pop-punk music that is catchy and fun—hell yes!

Enjoy “Lately” today and be sure to go get the album tomorrow HERE. You’ll not only be purchasing a great album, you’ll be supporting independent music and some of the nicest guys out there.
