It’s A Swamp Girl Thang

swam bredElizabeth Shore will be publishing a contemporary erotic romance with Wild Rose Press in the next year or so. All I know is that it has snakes in it–a lot of snakes. It’s also set in the Deep South and it’s super sexy. A hot swampy snake-packed Deep South got me looking online and what I found were all these pulp novels from decades ago that played off the swamp woman motif.

Now, these novel covers ended up having nothing to do with Elizabeth Shore’s novel, but that didn’t prevent me from pour...

Praising Men in Kilts

This weekend I attended Scottish Festival in Lexington, Va. Herding dogs gathered sheep on the grassy hillsides. The sun warmed the air, but with a brisk wind from time to time kept it chilly. With the weather, and the mountains surrounding us, along with the bagpipes and Scottish music playing from time to time, you could almost swear you were in Scotland.

Lovely trinkets and crafts lined the festival grounds—chimes, hand carved wood boxes, and knives and swords. I also enjoyed talking with s...

Mmm, Smells Like Heroine To Me

You’re a bitch, you’re shallow, you’re selfish,” so says Tracey, a matchmaker on the reality TV show Ready For Love. She’s reporting how she is willing to give it straight up to women about why they’re not married. Mmmm, smells like a potential heroine to me.

Ernesto

Ernesto. Can you say cute?

Pamela Palmer admits her love of deeply flawed heroes who must be redeemed, but I love me a flawed heroine just as much. The ugly duckling, the woman afraid of intimacy…and the woman who has got a lot of great q...

Writing Advice from the Sisters

by C. Margery Kempe

I’m a member of Sisters in Crime and the 2012 Publishers Summit Report has come out. This is the advantage of belonging to writer organisations: insider info. I’m a member of the upper Hudson (NY) chapter, Mavens of Mayhem, too and act as their social media wrangler. I’m giving a talk on Saturday about using Twitter as a writer.

The perks of membership: you get a lot of useful information and mentoring that might cost big buck as a conference or workshop, but are included in...

Meat Checks & Other Mayhem on Find Me My Man

Natalie

Natalie knows best.

FIND ME MY MAN sets the tone immediately with the title. These women are toxic bachelorettes for one reason or another. Their supreme matchmaker, Natalie Clarice, says the show is relationship therapy for “women with a lot of issues.”

That’s putting it nicely, because this is about watching crazy and makes no bones about it. The show has a simple formula: first we get an eye full of some woman giving into her toxic thang.

Like Mercedes, who is stunningly beautiful. When datin...

Judging Books By Their Covers

Louisiana BayouIn preparation for the release of my upcoming book, Hot Bayou Nights, my editor asked me to let the art department know what the important elements are inmy story that should be included on the cover. I was asked to look through several cover artists’ catalogues and letmy editorknow what I like and don’t like in a cover. Looking at covers in that way, meaningconsciously thinking about what draws me toward someand not others, was a new experience for me but one I found reallyfun.

Jenna’s Funnybone

marblesThe NYTimes had an article on You Tube sensation Jenna Marbles. Who is she? Just a young woman trying to find some meaning to her life a million You Tube clicks at a time.

Jenna’s a pretty girl potty mouth, addressing fans affectionately as her ‘boo-boos’, ‘friendship’, or ‘hey vaginas’.

Jenna has two crazy-cute dogs named Kricket and Marbles.

Jenna gets sh**-faced quite a lot. She is there to guide young women through the unique challenges that modern life presents for the hard-partying indepen...
