Book Trailers: Yay or Nay?

Noir director Ida Lupino

Noir director Ida Lupino

by C. Margery Kempe

With a new release coming for one of my alter egos, Kit Marlowe, I revamped an old book trailer and put it up on Facebook before sharing with my publisher. Admittedly, I enjoy making book trailers because it reminds me of the fun I had making movies. In idle moments, I wonder if I was foolish to turn down the full scholarship for filmmaking (I never wonder that about turning down the full scholarship for engineering at General Motors Institute), thou...

True Romance & The Charm of James Gandolfini

This was Patricia's big break out role as well.

This was Patricia’s big break out role as well.

The movie’s called TRUE ROMANCE, but after seeing it, my sweetie and I began calling it True Violence. This did not prevent us from thinking of the movie as one of our favorite films of all time. It’s a great film–if you like movies in which people are so daffy they’re bonkers-crazy.

Watching it was a unique experience because every little tiny role was acted by someone absolutely brilliant. But it’s a Tarantino film, so even with all the great ac...

Pictures In The Eyes Of The Beholder

Woman Hiding Behind BookIn going through the process of getting my website completed, I’ve been thinking a lot about author photos. For writers of erotic romance, in particular, this can be a tricky decision. To have a photo, or not to have a photo. That is the question. Like many, I have a “day job” unrelated to my passion for writing, and the day job folks . . . well, let’s just say there’s a certain image in the corporate world which may or may not look favorably upon an erotic romance writer.

So. The photo. In my...

In Progress

By Liz Everly

Summer calls to me, but I sit in my office and plunk away at the keyboard. I have two books and one novella due over the next eight months. The first book, due in August is in second draft mode. The next book is started—but has a long way to go. My novella is currently out with beta readers. along with all this, I’m gearing up to launch CRAVINGS, book 2 in the SAFFRON NIGHTS SERIES.

So, while I wait for the beta readers to return their remarks to me, I have two books to work on. T...

Why Hello Henry: The New Man of Steel

Henry Cavill falls under the “Why Didn’t I Notice Him Before,” category–a category Tracy Cooper Posey talks about on her blog here.

Got cleavage? Henry Cavill in The Tudors

Got cleavage? Henry Cavill in The Tudors

Why didn’t I notice you, Henry, in Tristan & Isolde? (Ahem.Because I had eyes for no one but James Franco is why.)

Why didn’t I notice you, Henry, on the Tudors, why didn’t I notice you in the Count of Monte Cristo? Am I blind?Cavill

Sorry Henry. My bad. But guess who has two thumbs and feels like an idiot now? This gal!

In this late...

Friday Fun: Dance Revolution

Portrait_Emma_Goldmanby C. Margery Kempe

If I can’t dance, I don’t want your revolution! Emma Goldman (sort of)

I have a couple of friends who have a nigh on evangelical zeal for zumba. I had no idea what it was, but I too well remembered the horror that was Jazzercize (oh, tempt me in with the idea of dancing then prove to me that you could suck out all the fun and leave the strenuous effort — yes, I remember you, Jazzercize).

However I was lured in to a benefit zumba-thon for a cause very dear to my heart and as I...

Writing Props

Woman writing a letter

By Elizabeth Shore

In his wonderful bookOn Writing, Stephen King notes a few things that are necessary in the space where he writes in order to fuel his creative juices. High onthe list for King is to have musical accompaniment when he’s writing.“I work to loud music -hard-rock stuff like AC/DC, Guns ‘n Roses, and Metallica have always been particular favorites.”(Stephen King,On Writing).

I, too, like to listen to music when I write. Rather than serve as a distraction, I find that music blocks...

Reading Variety: The Spice of Life

By Liz Everly

I confess. I don’t just read hot romances. I mean, I know I’m a Lady Smut blogger and all of that. But, in fact, sometimes I start reading a romance (or any book) and only read a few chapters, pages, or paragraphs and lose interest. The older I get, and the more I write, I can see a bad book coming and have no patience or time for it. Sometimes, I find some good reads though. Reads worth my time—and I like to share them when I find them.

We shy away from regular reviews on Lady Sm...
