Livestream on January 25

Treesong

I've decided to start livestreaming once per month! My first livestream will be on Tuesday, January 25 at 10 a.m. Central time.

You can watch it live on my Facebook page or see the archived video there anytime after the stream. I'm also going to experiment with my streaming options over the weekend to see if I can stream on multiple sites simultaneously. At a minimum, you'll be able to watch it on Facebook.

The livestream is a chance for me to update my patrons, readers, and social media followers about my writing and superhero adventures. This month's livestream will include updates about my works in progress (WIP), news and reflections about my superhero adventures, and hopefully quick updates on a few other topics.

If you have any questions, suggestions, or other feedback, let me know. I love hearing from you!

The Constitution and Beyond

Imagine Believing the Constitution (Tweet)

"Imagine believing that a constitution written by slaveholders about 250 years ago is the greatest possible system of governance."

These are the words that kicked off my first viral tweet. So far, about 45,800 people have liked my tweet. 8,500 or so have retweeted it. Those aren't celebrity numbers, but this is by far my most popular tweet to date. Therefore, I've decided to write a blog post about it.

Don’t Look Up Is A Great Start

Credit: Netflix

From the moment I first heard about Don't Look Up (probably on Earther), I was excited to see it. So excited, in fact, that I saw it in person at a movie theater (a pandemic first for me) rather than waiting a week to see it on Netflix.

Is Don't Look Up worth watching? In a word, yes! If you haven't watched it yet, go watch it now. Mild spoilers ahead.

Winter 2021 Donation: Climate Justice Alliance

Climate Justice Alliance

I'm pleased to announce that the winner of the Winter 2021 Donation Poll is Climate Justice Alliance!

I've made a $25 donation to Climate Justice Alliance in support of their good work. I also encourage my readers, listeners, and followers to support this organization in whatever ways they can. This includes spreading the word online and by word of mouth, volunteering for a member organization in your area, and donating to Climate Justice Alliance and its member organizations.

Donation Poll for Winter 2021

Donation Poll

As part of my Real-Life Superhero mission, I donate at least 10% of the proceeds from all writing-related income to nonprofit organizations. Earlier this year, I decided that this should include (but not be limited to) a seasonal (quarterly) donation to a nonprofit organization based directly on how much writing income I had in the previous quarter.

I'll be making my first such donation on Winter Solstice 2021 -- and you can help decide where I donate!

The theme I've chosen for this winter's donation is Indigenous Climate Justice. Given my own emphasis on climate, most if not all of these donations will have some connection to the climate crisis and climate justice. But these organizations have a mission related to climate justice and are either indigenous-led or include support for indigenous communities and causes in their work.

This time around, the winner of the poll will receive $25. If you want to help decide who receives this winter's donation, please vote in the poll.

COP26 and Beyond

United Nations Climate Crisis Forest Fire Image by Gerd Altmann from Pixabay

Like many climate hawks, I've spent the past several months anticipating COP26 with a healthy mix of hope and dread. Now that the conference is well underway, I've decided to write a quick overview and my initial thoughts on the proceedings and beyond.

My New Approach to Making Money

Money Puzzle Image by Arek Socha from Pixabay

Since I'm not making big bucks yet as an author and quirky media personality, I've decided to diversify my income-generating strategies.

My new approach to making money involves working on two separate fronts: "paid remote work" and "building a career as an author (and quirky media personality)."

Welcome to Solardale

Solardale

When I heard about the Imagine 2200 climate fiction contest, I quickly figured out exactly what I wanted to write about for my submission. After some reflection and research, I wrote a short story called "Welcome to Solardale." The bad news is that my story didn't win the contest. The good news is that it's now available for publication elsewhere, including my Patreon campaign!
