The Innovator of Crime Fiction – Where Would Modern Detective Novels be Today Without the Creation of Sherlock Holmes?

While growing up, I loved to read mysteries with great detective characters that solved the most difficult murders – and still do. It didn't take me long to find some of the Sherlock Holmes novels after I read the Nancy Drew mystery series, and books by Agatha Christie and Ellery Queen just to name a few. The adventures of Sherlock Holmes just seemed like the next logical detective read for me. All of these books hold a special place for me and I'm know that they helped to encourage my own...

Why Do You Think Violent Crime Decreased in 2009?

It is nice when we can look back on the year that just ended and see some positive trends that are occurring in our country. Of course, I take particular interest in crime statistics and studying what circumstances may be causing a rise or fall in the level of violent behavior. Many people would make the logical assumption that crime would be increasing with the bad economy. Desperate times call for desperate measures and those who are already feeling high stress due to financial concerns ar...

Happy New Year!

2010 is here! Woohoo!

It's time for new projects and New Year's resolutions.

Here's a sneak peek for what I have planned so far for this year:

1. Articles on criminal profiling, forensics, criminal investigations, crime, and more interesting profiles about serial killers.

3. A few photography trips around the state of California that I will share.

4. A third Emily Stone Novel that is set to take place on the Hawaiian island of Kauai. What...

Could Emily Stone Handle Herself Among Tough Female TV Police Detectives?

Okay, I admit it. I watch a couple of television cop shows on a regular basis, usually with strong female characters of course. My favorite cop shows are Law & Order, Cold Case, and The Closer. I also love to watch true crime and forensic shows whenever I can.

It's refreshing to see so many shows today that illustrate that women can be strong, intelligent, and capable as detectives and cops. The interesting thing is that with every tough female detective there is an equally strong, intelligent...

Abducted Child Returned to Her Family in Phoenix

When you read in the newspaper or watch on a cable news network the latest report about a missing child, I imagine the first instinct is to assume the worst. I know that I anticipate a follow-up story several days later sharing the grim news that a body has been found. And, the statistics show that, in most instances, this unhappy ending is reality. If a missing child is not found within the first several hours of being kidnapped, for the boy or girl to be brought home al...

New Forensic Techniques Used to Catch Internet Child Pornographers

One of the biggest problems facing law enforcement with catching and prosecuting Internet child pornographers is that technology hasn't caught up with this type of crime yet. It's an immense problem and the scope of it seems almost endless for these dogged investigators. The problem with the investigative process is analyzing and classifying images. This process is overwhelming in volume and extremely time consuming.

How many children are victims of online sexual exploitation?

In 2008, it was...

I want to take a moment to thank everyone for the wonderful and unwavering support I have received this year. It has really made a difference in my life – thank you. I feel that I have many things to be thankful for this year and it has also given me the confidence to continue writing novels.

Be sure to take the time to enjoy the little things this holiday season with friends and family.

I wanted to share my version of the 12 days of Christmas.
