Remember these wise words:

To attract good fortune, spend a new penny on an old friend, share an old pleasure with a new friend and lift up the heart of a true friend by writing his name on the wings of a dragon.

(Yes, dragons….)

The big one

You, dear readers, probably don’t know how much we authors are pressured to give away our books.
It’s supposed to get our name out there, we’re told. A giveaway will get the readers “in the door,” so to speak. Once they’ve read the book that they got for free, they will enthralled with our work, happily grab up anything else we’ve written and wait with baited breath for our next release.

OK, let’s see if that works.  Today, The King’s Redress, Book 3 in The Bewildering Adventures of King Bewilliam, is FREE on the world’s largest Internet company, amazon.com

My research tells me to expect tens of thousands of downloads which will skyrocket the rankings into the stratosphere. Great rankings then are supposed to entice other readers to check out what is clearly a popular book.

Be a heroine

Historical Fantasy Book Sale Here’s your chance to join the ranks of legendary fantasy novel heroines.
Think of some of the audacious, brave, sword-wielding women with brains, beauty and humor you’ve met between the covers of books you’ve read. Maybe your favorite fantasy heroine is the likes of Hermoine Granger, Lyra Belacqua, Morgan le Fay or Claire Randall. What if you could be in their world?

I, of course, would be younger, more energetic, athletic and quick-witted. It would be awesome to be able to dispatch the day’s challenges with an incantation or a well-placed swish of a magic wand. Can’t squeeze into my skinny jeans? Whoosh, I’ve dropped a size! Got a backorder to fill? Whoosh, the warehouse is full and books are on their way to customers! Dead battery or flat tire? Who needs a car? Whoosh, I’m where I need to be. Need Sago, the old cat, and Shumba, the younger, to stop hissing and spitting? Whoosh, peace on earth, they are best of friends.

Oh, of course I wouldn’t squander my magic or my swordsmanship on silly things like scything my junk mail to confetti with a broadsword, although wouldn’t that be fun? Once I got my life under control I would look for ways to use my special gifts to make the world a better place. I think I’d like to share my powers. So many people languish and suffer abuse because they feel powerless to change the situation or themselves. I’d endow the beleaguered with just enough courage and confidence to take that first step toward changing their lot.

I’d be a bit like Isabella George, the heroine of The Tower’s Alchemist in Alesha Escobar’s Gray Tower trilogy. Isabella longs for the life of a ordinary young woman but there’s nothing ordinary about her. Isabella’s a trained Alchemist and she commits to using her talents to fight against evil. She takes on an assignment to extract a deadly warlock from Nazi occupied France and prevent him from unleashing a devastating alchemical weapon. When she herself becomes a target she finds that even some of her closest allies cannot be trusted.

So tell me, what would it be like for you if you stepped out of your everyday routine into a fantasy universe? What would you most want to do that you can’t do right now? Share by leaving a comment.

Want more inspiration? Grab a copy of The Tower’s Alchemist. It’s free during our fantastic FANTASY BOOK SALE.
