Excerpt:
Her delicate brows knitted together. “What are you doing here? Aren’t you supposed to be with your family?”“Change of plans.” His tone was as harsh as his disappointment. “I had to stay and saw a few posters hanging around the school. Thought it was a better option than spending Christmas Eve alone.”The corner of her lips curled up. “Definitely.”Though he tried, he couldn’t ignore just how beautiful and vulnerable she appeared. Her long, brown hair fell around her porcelain face and into a smooth cascade down her back. Her usually energetic green eyes shone with relief instead. She wore red lipstick, which only made her mouth more inviting. The dress hugged her perfect curves, the hemline promising fun things on the other side.Jesus.Jason shook his head and shifted his gaze away. He’d probably caught her making plans for later, and he still wanted her? His mind was so messed up.“You don’t seem so well. What is it?” She stepped closer and her spicy perfume taunted his will.He held his breath for a moment and focused. “I’m good.” He smiled at her, transforming into his usual self. The laidback gaming nerd, and fun professor he brought out for his students.“Come in.” She gestured to the living room. “The party is starting.”Somewhere over the last six or seven months, when their conversations had become more profound and frequent, he had lost his mind. Six or seven months ago, he would never have crashed a student party so he could stare at one of them.Helpless, he followed her.

About the Author:
Juliana is a Brazilian girl living in Connecticut.
She would love to be Wonder Woman, Cheetara, Elektra, Buffy, Phoebe, She-ra, Rose, Korra, Cornelia, a blood elf shadow priest, and other various kick-ass female from comics, TV series, movies, books and games, but she settles for—the less exciting but equally gratifying life—a wife, mother, friend and a writer. Her heroines are like the ones cited above and she also writes about the heroes who drive them crazy—and occasionally hot.
Since her first stories, she wrote about 20-something year old protagonists. Nowadays, besides writing full time, she battles for the recognition of New Adult as a category.

Blitz for Brand New World by Maria Hammarblad

The workings of a confused writer mind.
Thank you Roxanne for inviting me to the blog. I appreciate the opportunity to come over and visit!
Once upon a time, in the distant past we now call the 1990’s, I read “The Road to Omaha” by Robert Ludlum. It’s a very funny book, with a very funny foreword. He talks about the writing process going wrong and the writer giggling while working on what should be a nail-biting thriller. At the time I thought it was funny, but didn’t really get it. It would take me over twenty years to really get it.
Brand New World is the first novella in a series I call Embarkment 2577. When I wrote the first page, it happened. I giggled. I set out to write a serious science fiction romance about a girl transported to the future after a horrific accident. For better and for worse, my mind ran astray. The result is a scifi romance balancing on the edge of being a spoof.  Some people really like it, and others think it’s the worst piece of crap ever written. I’m personally quite fond of it. :-D The following novellas – High Gravity, and Adam and Eve – are more serious. I guess my subconscious had settled down a bit when I got that far.
So, what happens on that first page? The heroine wakes up in a foreign environment where everything is just a little wrong.  She hears voices, and I wanted her to meet a couple of the secondary characters right away, so she’d have someone to build rapport with. My mind pulled up an image of a magnificent cat woman. Beautiful, but strange, scary, and with the temper of a feline.
I wanted to throw another wrench in the mind of my poor heroine. One that would make her absolutely certain the world in which she woke can’t be real. Enter the rock star, or rather, a hologram of one.
I’ve always been fascinated with the idea of parallel dimensions. I don’t know if you’re familiar with the concept, but the main notion is that we might live many different lives at the same time, as different people. Some think every major choice every individual makes creates a new world, so there’s one for every possible outcome. Mindboggling idea, isn’t it? In this world, I’m me. In another I might be a housewife with seven children, and in yet another I might be a contract killer. Depending on who theorizes about it, the worlds are more or less similar. One popular theory is that dimensions very close to each other are more similar, and the farther you get from your own, the bigger the differences. My mind adores ideas like this.
Anyway, in my series “The Goddess’s Saga” the main character is a several thousand year old deity who modeled her appearance on a rock star. I thought, “Wouldn’t it be interesting if she was someone else in another dimension? Someone who looked like her and thought like her, but worked within a completely different set of parameters? She’d need a different name, of course…” Done, and done. If I brought Ms. Callaway over from the Goddess’s Saga I’d have to bring over her boyfriend as well: leaving her there all alone would be mean. He didn’t change as much; the drunken space rogue became a drunken pirate.
My mind wasn’t done yet. The heroine needed a love interest. Making it a human would be much too easy on her. She would be in love with… (eyes wandering over my desk, paper clip, pen, computer, paper, computer….) aaah, the ship’s android life form. No, too easy… She can’t remember anything, because she has amnesia after dying and going to the future. Eureka!
Are you confused yet? My head is a pretty random and messy place, where all this makes perfect sense. I think it comes together pretty nicely in the book, though. Below is a brief excerpt when my heroine Alexandra first meets these strange ladies. After this encounter she’s quite convinced she’s had a mental breakdown and really sits comfortably in a padded cell dressed in a shirt with very long sleeves…

Doctor Ima pressed a paw against my forehead. Her palm was soft and lined with fine hairs.
“Please don’t be angry with Adam, he saw no other way than to bring you along. You were quite dead you know.”
Who? What? I didn’t have time to voice any questions; the first voice I heard sounded again from further into the room. “She’s not angry with Adam. I detect quite fond feelings for him.”
This time my mouth moved when I wanted to speak, and my voice came out much stronger and steadier than I expected.  “How can I have fond feelings for someone I don’t know? Where am I? What is this place? What do you mean I was dead?”
When this woman came into view, I was certain I hallucinated. Her cold blue eyes, scrutinizing me from a beautiful face surrounded by long dark hair, were much too familiar. It was the face of a well-known rock star, and I had seen her in concert just a few months earlier. I managed to sound accusing. “You’re Amy Lee. What are you and cat woman doing in my dream?”
The face smiled and answered in a voice just like the one on the CDs I used to play in my car. “I’m not Amy Lee. I’m Doctor Anya Benton, ship’s counsellor. How do you feel?

Book Description:
When Alexandra wakes up in an unknown environment, populated by a cat-like woman with a tail and a hologram of a rockstar, she knows she has to be hallucinating. Maybe she hit her head, or finally suffered that nervous breakdown. It doesn't get any better from finding out she died and was taken into the future by the elusive Adam, whom she can't remember, or from people telling her she's on a spaceship.

The last year or so is gone from her memory, and she has no choice but to try to adapt. As days go by, her new environment becomes more and more unnerving. She finds herself helpless, and completely dependent on a man who isn't even human.
"Brand New World" is the first novella in the "Embarkment 2577" series.

Author Bio:
Born in Sweden in the early 1970's, Maria showed a large interest for books at an early age. Even before she was able to read or write, she made her mom staple papers together into booklets she filled with drawings of suns and planets. She proudly declared them, "The Sun Book." They were all about the sun. She also claimed, to her mother's horror, that her being on Earth was a big mistake and that her alien family would come and bring her home at any moment. This never happened, but both the interest in space and the passion for bookmaking stayed with her.
As an adult Maria's creativity got an outlet through playing bass in a number of rock bands, and through writing technical manuals and making web pages for various companies and organizations. She did write drafts for a few novels, but the storytelling muse was mostly satisfied through role playing online on Myspace. It was here, while writing stories together with people from around the globe, she stumbled onto Mike. They started talking out of character, and she moved over to Florida to him late 2008. Today the two are married and live in the Tampa Bay area with three rescue dogs.
Besides writing and playing bass, Maria enjoys driving off-road, archery, and Tameshigiri.

Dreamer Tour Monique Morgan

Dark Twins by Monique Morgan
The twins of the Alwahi series are as unlike from each other as night and day. Zanas’s character is courageous, and dependable. She is passionate about her loyalty to the people that she loves. A positive and warm character.
Asenya is entirely the opposite. Her underlying character is deceitful and manipulating. She would be the first to save herself, and those that are near her tend to be mistreated and overlooked. A character that some might find hard to like, but she brings a mighty punch none-the-less.
I like the flaws of Asenya, the gritty unashamed attitude that she has, even when faced with crushing guilt. Just like any truly talented being, Asenya has the ability to use her gifts for the greater good, or a dark future.
I enjoyed following Asenya down the rabbit hole, so to speak, watching as her character became more and more entwined in a disastrous course until eventually there was nothing left other than the destruction she had placed before herself.
I am excited for Asenya to be introduced to the reader, her sinister persona unleashed.

When her plane crashes into the ocean, Zanas is dropped into a brutal world of survival. She soon learns that this is no ordinary place, as the land mutates all that live within its borders. Her sister is kidnapped and taken beneath, thrusting Zanas into the middle of a primitive society, where she will find her death, or her destiny.

Read the first six chapters now!

She was nothing like her sister. Zanas had always been the courageous and dedicated one. Asenya was arrogant, selfish, and demanding. All of the qualities that Dreamers have…Kidnapped and taken beneath, Asenya fights to find out who she really is, discovering that her potential is far greater than she ever could have imagined. But that destiny may finally be the end of her, and what she once was. May she make the right choices.Excerpt:

There was one thing that bothered her after Zanas had left, something that nagged at the back of her mind, until finally she could not dismiss it any longer.

Everywhere she looked, she saw the strong belief that all were allowed to choose. She had been taken below by force, and there was that part of her that wondered if she had been placed in the right clan. She knew that she had received the marks of the Dreamer, and that should be sign enough, but still there was that feeling.

Asenya snuck out in the middle of the night, following the path that she traveled down her first night below. She had been learning enough in antiquities to understand the concept of the pledge temple ,and Falon had already confided in her that he had removed the barrier spells around the hold. She could come and go as she pleased.

Usually anyone wishing to pledge a clan, did so when they believed that they were old enough to leave their families, and venture into the lives of their destinies. This was always done in the pledge temple, by those that were city born, or born within the clan.

There was a rumor that there was a spell on the temple that only allowed the pledger to speak the truth, sometimes to the speaker’s surprise. But the people of the beneath believed in nothing stronger than the tenant that Alwahi knew everyone’s path.

It was chilly in the dark shadows of the tunnel, making it seem as though she really were in the underworld. When she came to the diverging tunnels, she paused, looking up at the circling staircase that led to the temple.

For some reason, she was starting to feel afraid, the quiet of the shadows making her uneasy. Perhaps it had not been the best idea to run here in the middle of the night, when no one knew she was gone.

Shaking herself, Asenya closed her hands into fists, narrowing her eyes as she took one deep breath. She had come here for a reason, and she wasn’t going to give up when she was this close. Asenya began walking up the stairs, higher and higher, until she was pushing open the door that led into the temple.

Three throne chairs greeted her as she ventured inside, the steps of her feet echoing across the long hall. She felt immediately an overwhelming sence of reverence, the building speaking to her very soul.

It spoke of history and awe. I told whispers of the countless feet that had walked the very stone floor that she stepped across. And finally, it hinted at destiny yet to be fulfilled.

Asenya walked into the center of the magnificent building, closing her eyes and inhaling deep once again. She flung her arms outward, letting her head fall back as her eyes opened wide.

“I pledge,” her voice came out on its own. “Dreamer…”

It was like a wind that escaped her lips, traveling past her face and to the room, swirling like a mighty wind around her body, lifting her hair and the hem of her dress from the ground. The air that swirled around her brightened, turning to a shimmering trail, like the loving embrace of some spirit.

Dreamer…

A word spoken, but not, simply a melody on the wind. And then she knew, she knew that she had been placed in exactly the clan that she had belonged to, and deep down inside, she realized that she had always known.
Monique Morgan lives in Utah with her husband and her three children. She writes Action Adventure YA with a sprinkle of "whatever". Her books cross the genres between Scifi, Horror, and Fantasy, with one main element, a main character who kicks butt in any situation.

Guardian of the Abyss by Shannon Phoenix

Hi Roxanne,
With a name like Fang-tastic Books, I just had to write about vampires today. Although my latest book contains mostly gargoyles and a werewolf or two, the Supernaturals Universe at large includes a world in which vampires are "out".
In book 1 of my Supernaturals Now trilogy, we meet Tallis. Dark and mysterious, Tallis is lethal. Sometimes he shows an urbane, even charming side, but he's a born killer. Tallis owns a combination casino-bar-hotel called The Love Bite, the Once Bitten, and the Twice Shy.
What the humans don't know about this, though, is that it's the American Mecca for vampires. When things go wrong in America, you'll find The Love Bite filled to the brim with vampires and various denizens of the world that lies below the surface of ours.
In my specialty book, The Minister's Paige, we meet Stavros, and the highest Monarch in the Vampire Kingdom, Nerianne the Queen. The most powerful vampire in the world, Stavros is the Minister of Justice for the vampire race.
Nerianne, on the other hand, is a virtual unknown. Everyone fears her. Even Tallis and Stavros tremble before this dainty, graceful woman.
While creating these characters, I've had to ask myself the question: Why do we love them so much? What is it about vampires that draw us in like gnats to vinegar? These creatures are vicious, evil, malicious, dangerous, and dark. Is it their forbidden nature? Their power?
For some people, I think the lure is redeeming the vampire. When he or she is reformed and softens. The ultimate fixer-upper. The power of love overcoming the deepest of the dark, the worst of the most vile...
In an upcoming book, A Vampire's Accounting, our buddy Tallis is going to find love... but he's not going to be reformed. There are already contrary parts to him. He has his--very well hidden--soft spots. But the dark nature of his soul will never come unraveled.
So it is in this that I must come to understand why we love them so much. These creatures who skulk in the night and whose few redeeming qualities are so lost beneath a quagmire of blood, decadence, and debauchery as to be nearly gone.
In my search for explanations and my deep personal examination, I think that there are multitudes of reasons why we love them. And they can be as different as we are as people. A million people and a million reasons...
Some may love them strictly for the danger factor. Like the crazy people who like roller coasters--and make no mistake, if you like roller coasters, you're crazy. :p
Some love them for their forbidden nature. Dancing in the wind with that which is taboo and coming out unscathed--or conversely, submerging within it, never to return.
Finding Corry's reason for loving Tallis will be the great challenge.
One thing is certain, however...
We really do love these beasts. For all their flaws, dangers, and unpredictable natures... they fascinate us as few things have done throughout history. Perhaps it's less about why, and more about accepting that we do love them. About embracing our own dark natures through the mirror that is Vampire. Perhaps this is why they are reputed to have no reflection... for our own hidden natures are that reflection.

When her diving partner tries to kill her to take over her company, Sarah finds herself trapped beneath the waves and dying. Having brought light to Abaddon's dark existence at last, only she can grant him the courage to do what must be done to escape his watery prison.

Together, they must take on the ocean and their own fears. The consequence of failure is death.
About the Author:
Shannon Phoenix always wrote stories. She watched the characters take on their lives within her mind, and began to write down what they were doing. She would write the stories and then let them go. But a few years ago, she got caught writing those stories. You know... those stories.

To her surprise, the person who found her stories loved her characters as much as Shannon did. She tentatively allowed others to read the stories, as well, and it was from that first foray into the scary world of letting others read her 'little tales' that Shannon Phoenix Books was born.
Shannon lives in New Hampshire with her husband John, her daughter, and their family cat, Song. Her full time job is parenting, her part time job is as a mother's helper to a family friend, and her passion is letting the characters in her mind out on paper--or keyboard, as the case may be.
Welcome to Shannon Phoenix Books. May you find the magic in your own life.

How to Plot a Murder Mystery by Kathleen S Allen

HOW TO PLOT OUT A MURDER MYSTERY
I write in different genres including YA fantasy/paranormal but I also write murder mysteries. In fact one of my first novels published is WITCH HUNTER about a 15 year old girl who tries to figure out who is murdering the people of Salem, Massachusetts. My current book  (not YA) is, IF IT’S TUESDAY, IT MUST BE TROUBLE, a Mel Thompson, P.I. case. The first Mel Thompson book is, IF IT’S MONDAY, IT MUST BE MURDER both published by Gypsy Shadow Publishing. Usually I write from the seat of my pants (a pantser) but with mysteries you have to plot. I usually get the basic story line down then go back over and over it again and again to make sure it makes sense and to make sure the timeline/murder works.
Here’s a basic way to outline your own murder mystery.
1.      The storyline comes first. Think of who is going to be killed and why. This is one of the most important pieces. I mean, why this murder, why now? Usually people will kill for various reasons but mainly for greed, passion, or revenge (these are what I’ve come up with after reading hundreds of mysteries over the years---no I won’t tell you how many years.) So, you have to decide what the reason is and what the killer has to gain because the killer must gain something whether it’s satisfaction or a better job or the love of their life or whatever. This is important. No one kills unless there is a reason, it has to make sense to your readers even if the reason is, “I wanted his shoes.”
2.      After you have determined who the killer is and why they are killing this person, you have to determine the means of killing. Men tend to use guns or blunt force, women tend to use poison or something less messy but not always. Make sure you research your method so if there is a reader out there who is an expert on medieval poisons or whatever they won’t yell at you (virtually, of course).
3.      Next you have to determine who is going to look like he or she is the killer but is not the actual killer. These are called red herrings. A red herring occurs when a fish such as a herring is brined and smoked making the flesh turn red and is often time attributed to the practice of using fish to throw off the scent of dogs when they are fox hunting (although this is not believed to be true). You must set up clues that make the reader think they know who the killer is but by the time they get to the end of the book they realize they were wrong (we hope).
4.      Once you have your killer, the reason, the means and the red herrings, take a look at your main character, the sleuth in question. Some authors might do this differently, they might choose the sleuth first then the killer etc. but I do it by choosing the killer first. Once your sleuth is in place you need to determine if they are a cop, a wanna-be cop, a private investigator or an amateur who is invested in figuring out the murder. If you choose an amateur he or she must have access to police procedures. I made my main character a former cop, now a P.I. with a cop boyfriend who has access to police procedures. She’s also best friends with a Medical Examiner.
5.      Your setting is important too. For the first book I chose the town the main character lives in and made up a small town USA setting in Illinois. I wanted it to be in the Midwest and so picked a small town (I made up the name) near Chicago. For this book I chose to set it part of it in the small town and part of it in Chicago at a fashion house. My main character knows nothing about fashion so it’s foreign territory for her. I had to write it from her lack of knowledge about the fashion industry.
6.      So, okay, you have the killer, the murder victim, the means of murder, the sleuth, the red herrings and the setting. What’s next? The solving of the crime comes next. This is where it gets tricky. Again, don’t be too obvious but leave little clues, this is called foreshadowning, leave these clues throughout the story but make sure it’s not easy for the reader to guess the killer.
7.      And that’s it! My outline for plotting the perfect murder mystery. Hope this helps you when you are either reading your favorite mystery novel or when you are writing one.

IF IT’S TUESDAY, IT MUST BE TROUBLE!Mel Thompson Series Book TwoBy Kathleen Allen
Mel Thompson, P.I., former cop returns in her second murder case. It’s the first case she’s taken since she almost died at the hands of the murderer from her last case, three months ago.
Things are looking up a bit though, her cop boyfriend moved back in, the back surgery she had seems to have dulled the pain in her leg and she’s working as an intern in a fashion house in order to catch a murderer.
The fashion world is an alien one to Mel but she’s eager to learn in order to figure out who killed an up and coming designer who just happened to be the sister of the senior buyer.  Mel plans on being an intern for a few weeks, getting the information she needs and getting out.
She didn’t plan on actually liking the people in the fashion house. And she didn’t plan on being in harm’s way, again.

Simon's ChoiceCharlotte Castle
"But Daddy, who will live with me in heaven?"
Doctor Simon Bailey has everything a man could ever want.

Then his beautiful daughter is diagnosed with Leukemia.

He can almost accept her impending death.

He can almost accept the fact that he will have to live without her.

But he cannot stand the thought of his little girl having to face death alone.

He answers her innocent question in a moment of desperation, testing his marriage, his professional judgment and his sanity to the limit.

As cracks form in Simon's previously perfect family, we wonder, as do his loved ones ... will he really make the ultimate sacrifice?

Combining poignant moments of both humour and pain, 'Simon's Choice' is a penetrating account of parenthood at the sharp-end.
Amazon.com  Kindle
About the Author:
The daughter of a successful novelist, Charlotte Castle considers herself ‘chronically unemployable’ and admits to being astounded that her book has had such a positive reception.
“To be honest, I started writing ‘Simon’s Choice’ out of a mixture of genuine desire to explore the horror of losing a child and a fair amount of desire to get out of mopping the kitchen floor. That people want to read it is wonderful.”
A school governor for her daughter’s primary school and actively involved in her local ‘Community Action Group’, Charlotte juggles writing with cleaning up after a man whom she says is “completely unfamiliar with the term ‘washing basket’”, her cat and her two children.

When a bad day at work culminates in losing out on a promotion, Jim Sanders shifts into his animal form to let off steam. Then his bad day turns into a bad night—while prowling his Atlantic City neighborhood as a large gray house cat, he’s caught in a torrential downpour. What little luck he has washes down the gutter when his new boss, Andrew Wright, catches him taking shelter on his porch, brings him inside, and starts calling him Mr. Frosty.
As a feline, Jim becomes the inadvertent confessor for his boss’s lonely son, Tony, a victim of schoolyard bullying. As a human, he feels drawn to Andrew, a man he wanted to resent. Finding love was never part of Jim’s plan for the future—not with his bizarre secret—yet suddenly he finds himself navigating that minefield anyway. But not everything is easy, especially for an interracial gay couple dealing with prejudice in the workplace, at Tony’s school, and even within their own families.

Interview with Ann Gimpel

What inspired you to become an author?
Nothing I can put my finger on. It just sort of happened. Stories have always run around in my head. And I was the kind of psychotherapist who told stories to her patients. It’s easier to relate to a story than to more direct communication sometimes.
I came home from a mountaineering trip in the fall of 2008, sat down at the computer to give voice to a tale that had come to me during that trip and I’ve been writing ever since. I hope I never run out of stories. They’re imagination come to life.
Do you write in different genres?
Yes: contemporary fantasy, urban fantasy, science fiction and, much more lately, paranormal romance, some of it with an erotic twist.
If yes which is your favorite genre to write?
I love urban/contemporary fantasy. There’s something about using the “normal” world for a setting and having the ghosties and ghoulies creep out of the gutters that I find intriguing. Having said that, I’m also really enamored with paranormal romance. I picked up Karen Marie Moning’s Fever series last summer and devoured all the books. Maybe they spurred something in my imagination because I’ve now written five paranormal romance novellas, all of which are quite different in terms of characters and settings. What they have in common is a Happily Ever After ending. And those are just as much fun to write as they are to read. I finally understand the appeal of the romance genre.
Do you title the book first or wait until after it’s complete?
If I’m writing a series, I try to come up with all the titles at the front end of things, so probably somewhere during the first half of the first book. It’s important that the books sound as if they belong together. For example, all the Transformation books begin with “Psyche”. And the trilogy I’m working on is Earth’s Requiem, Earth’s Blood and Earth’s Hope.Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
Of course, but I want readers to find it for themselves. There are actually a few different take-home messages in the Transformation series. But they’ll resonate differently for different readers.
What book are you reading now?
I’m reading two mountain-climbing stories. One is about the women who’ve climbed K2. There have only been five and all of them are dead, some on K2, the others killed by different high mountains. The other book is about the most recent disaster on Mount Everest. When I’m not reading fantasy, science fiction or romance, I really enjoy true adventure stories set in the mountainous places of the world.
Who designed the cover of your latest book?
Kim McDougall from Blazing Trailers designed the cover for Psyche’s Promise. She also makes my book trailers. If you have a few seconds, you can check the latest one out on You Tube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wU1LfAbOavE&feature=plcp
Valerie Tibbs was the cover artist for A Time for Everything and Gabrielle’s Cauldron.
Do you have any advice for other writers?
Get feedback from as many sources as you can. Take it to heart. Rewrite and revise until you think you’ll get sick if you have to read your manuscript one more time. The devil is in the details. Sometimes I polish until I find myself changing things back to a way I had them before. I probably read my published novels and stories over eight to ten times prior to publication. More than that if you count my “back and forth” writing style where I reread the previous chapter, revising and tweaking, every time I pick up one of my manuscripts to start a new chapter.
What is next for you? Do you have any scheduled upcoming releases or works in progress?
I’ve gotten into writing paranormal romance novellas. A Time for Everything, was just released by Liquid Silver Books. It’s a time-travelling tale set in Scotland. I got the idea for it when I was in the UK this summer and I think I managed to capture the flavor of the weather rather well!
Gabrielle’s Cauldron, also an LSB release, will be out on 12/31. That one is about a longstanding battle between hybrid and full blood magic wielders. When a hybrid witch falls in love with a full blood warg, sparks fly, but the two hold the key to far more than the passion flaring between them.
I always have short fiction coming out. Check my blog (http://anngimpel.blogspot.com) or my website (www.anngimpel.com) for up-to-the-minute release information.

A Time for EverythingAnn Gimpel
Blurb:
Siobhan Macquire’s fortune has attracted a string of men who are out to drain her for everything they can get. Her last boyfriend was no exception. Furious at being used—again—she goes for a walk in the Highlands.
With the weather worsening, she wanders alone for hours. She’s soaking wet and starting to get scared when someone calls out to her. A striking-looking man emerges from the mist. Except there’s something wrong. His kilt is way too long and he talks with an archaic accent. Siobhan soon finds herself not only lost in the countryside but also in time.

Excerpt:Sam pulled the draw cords of her hood tighter, squinting against driving rain. She shivered, willing her legs to move faster. Even in the northern latitudes, it got dark eventually during what passed for summer, and the light was definitely fading. One foot sloughed into a hole. Cursing roundly, she yanked it out, noting the mud added what felt like ten pounds to her tired leg. Going on a ramble—as the locals called it—by herself had seemed like a good idea earlier in the afternoon. Now she wasn’t so sure. It had been hours since she’d seen another soul. The air felt heavy—and threatening, somehow.“Don’t be ridiculous,” she scolded herself. “My imagination’s off the clock, working overtime.”A flash off toward the river was followed almost immediately by a rumbling crash. It started raining harder. The sky lit again, casting the wet greenery and surrounding mountains in a macabre glow. Thunder sounded so loud it made her ears ring. The next lightning flare sparked off a rock not twenty feet away. Sam’s heart sped up. She stared at the mountains ringed about her. Why wasn’t the storm up there? Lightning was supposed to be drawn to high points, not meadows saturated with water. As if determined to prove her wrong, another flash struck the ground off to her left. She threw her hands over her ears but the thunder reverberated in her brain as if someone had struck an anvil right next to her. Shaking her head to try to make her ears stop hurting, she started walking again. Lightning struck inches from her feet. Sam lurched to a stop, blinking to clear the afterimage. Even as wet as it was, the air felt electrified, thick with sharp edges. She could almost see marauding electrons reaching for her, hungry little mouths wide open.Fear raced along her nerve endings, making her feel as if she’d downed half a dozen double espressos in a row. The breath whooshed out of her and her head spun crazily. The storm’s trying to kill me.Oh, please, she answered herself. Sam hated her tendency to engage in two-way inner dialogue, but she’d done it all her life.An excruciating twenty minutes and half a dozen lightning strikes later, she thought it might be safe to move. It was raining like a son of a bitch, but after striking what looked like a circle around where she stood, the electrical part of the storm had left as quickly as it had come.Guess the storm gods didn’t want me, after all.Why should they? No one else does.Sam sank into a funk. Shit, could I possibly be any wetter? Weather in the British Isles had been particularly wretched this summer. “Yeah, sort of like the rest of my life,” she muttered as she tried to assess if she’d be better off staying on the track or cutting cross-country toward where she thought a roadway was. Resolutely, she struck out for the road and promptly stepped into calf-deep water. It ran over the top of her boot and soaked her thick, woolen sock before she could jerk her foot back to solid ground. So much for that idea. Obviously, there’d been so much rain the ground on both sides of the track had turned into a bog. She’d never seen one before this trip to Scotland. They were hideous. Miles of saturated ground with water deep enough to reach her knees in some places. Sam glanced at her watch and groaned. She’d been walking for close to five hours. No wonder it was getting dark. The village she was aiming for shouldn’t actually be all that far away. In fact, she should have been there long since. About to tuck her watch back under her sleeve, she took one last look at it and realized the second hand had stopped. She tapped the crystal with her finger but nothing happened.Crap! Wonder when it quit? Must be the damp.Yes, another less pleasant voice piped up, it also means I have no idea how long I’ve been walking. Peering through mist-shrouded countryside, she looked for some signs of Beauly Village but all she saw were sheep.Sam told herself to keep walking. It wasn’t as if there was anywhere she could even sit to consider her options. Everything dripped water. Her jacket and pants, which had always provided adequate protection from the elements back in the States, were woefully inadequate here. She was afraid to pull out her cell phone. Electronics and water definitely weren’t compatible. Yeah, just look what happened to my watch. Dark thoughts crowded her mind. Why had she thought it would be romantic to spend a year in Scotland? You know why, an inner voice—the nasty one—sneered. It was your infatuation with Clint. Sam gave her resident maven a point for accuracy. Clint, with his spiffy Scottish intonations, dreamy blue eyes, and red-blonde curls, had sweet-talked her into bankrolling a trip to his home. Between his ever-so-broad shoulders, washboard abs, and nice, tight ass, he’d barely let her out of bed for a month. By the time she’d figured out the reason he had so much time on his hands was because he didn’t have a job, it was too late. She was head over heels in love. And hoping desperately that this time it would lead her to the altar. After all, it wasn’t as if he had to work. All he needed to do was treat her like a queen. She had plenty of money for both of them.Eager to grant her prince whatever he wanted, she’d readily agreed when he’d talked longingly of going back to Scotland for a while. Except he’d had a personality transplant practically the second they’d landed in Glasgow. In the month-and-a-half since they’d arrived, she’d scarcely seen him. He was always off with his mates, as he called them, drinking or climbing. There were weeks when he hadn’t returned to their rental flat in Inverness at all. Worse, she suspected some of those mates were gay. When she’d asked him if he swung both ways his eyes had turned to blue ice chips. He’d twisted away and slammed out of the house. That was the last time she’d seen him.Water ran off the bill of her hood. Some of it dripped into one eye. “Oh to hell with it,” she snarled. “I’m catching the first plane out of here—without him.” She sighed, feeling sad and angry by turns. Clint was far from the first man who’d taken advantage of her. As soon as they found out she was an heiress to a whiskey fortune, they promised her the moon and then fleeced her for everything they could get. She’d gotten pretty cagy in the years between sixteen and her current twenty-five. She’d even rented a modest apartment in Seattle and pretended she lived there when she met someone new.Eventually, though, when she thought a guy might be different, she took him to the Capitol Hill mansion she’d more-or-less inherited after her parents relocated to one of their many other homes. No matter how promising a relationship looked, the truth of that rambling mansion was always the beginning of the end.

Exclusive Interview with the One and Only Santa Claus by Candycane Claus

Exclusive Interview with the One and Only Santa Claus by Candycane Claus
As a special thank you to Roxanne Rhoads for putting together this fabulous tour, I managed to pull a few strings and get my dad to sit down for a brief one-on-one just for this stop.
Candycane Claus: Hi, Daddy. Thank you for agreeing to do this. I know you’re very busy this time of year. My first question is, what did you think when I first told you I was going to write a book about what happened here in the Workshop last Christmas?
Santa Claus: Ho, ho, ho! You mean, after I found out it wasn’t really for school, like you originally said? Ho, ho, ho! Why, I’ve always been proud of my little princess, no matter what. Naturally I gave you my full support, once my lawyers had exhausted any legal means to stop you.
CC: Several readers wanted me to ask if you learned anything about yourself from the book.
SC: Well, I haven’t actually read your little book, per se. The lawyers strongly advised me to stay as far away from it as possible, and your mother seconded that plan. But I know the gist of what’s in it. And I know what you’re getting at. You want me to say I was wrong to try to stop you from seeing that boy. I’m told your reporting was fair and balanced about including all the hot water you got yourself into. Or rather, the ice cold water, I should say. So, while I do see you growing into a fine young adult, I think the facts speak for themselves, that I was absolutely justified in... Something in your eye, sweetheart?
CC: You didn’t read my book, Daddy? Um, never mind. Moving on. Tell us about your favorite new toys for this Season.
SC: Oh, I’m glad you asked. I have a whole new line of Barbie dolls that come with real, working chastity belts. They actually lock and everything. Ho, ho, ho! No, I’m just teasing. You should see the look on your face, pumpkin. Didn’t think your old man knew how to tell a joke? See, I think this shows I’m completely at ease with my beautiful daughter maturing and blossoming into a normal, healthy young woman... and... starting to have an interest in... [coughs] excuse me... in boys. Uh, you don’t have to use this part in the interview, do you?
CC: This isn’t going as well as I’d hoped. Let’s talk about Mom [Mrs. Claus]. She said you two met when she was my age and her father didn’t like you any more than you cared for Rudy.
SC: That was a very, very long time ago. Times were different then. It wasn’t long after the epidemic. Everlasting life, well, that was something that made it a little easier to win over your grandfather. You know, I probably shouldn’t say too much about it. I’m thinking of writing my own book. I understand zombies are big with you kids these days. Ho, ho, ho!
CC: Okay. One more question, then. Susan from South Dakota asked on my Facebook page, what do you do about the children who no longer believe in you?
SC: Ho, ho, ho! Sounds like Susan, or perhaps some of her little friends, may be having a crisis of faith. A wise man once wrote a newspaper editorial over a hundred years ago verifying my existence. That satisfies me. To paraphrase his argument, I merely stop believing in SUSANS. I’m sorry if that sounds harsh, but after hundreds of years of lugging that heavy sack of toys around the world, what more do these brats want from me? You’re not going to stop believing in me one day, are you, princess? [sighs] I suppose, in the end, that’s all that really matters. That I’m here in the North Pole surrounded by loved ones who will always believe in me. And to the rest of the world, I smile and say, “Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night.”

Angelfire Giveaway

Title: AngelfireSeries: Dark AngelAuthor: Hanna PeachAvailable: November 22, 2012Format: E-bookGenre: Urban Fantasy/ParanormalLength: ~90,000 words

Blurb:
An army of angels walk among us. They have kept us safe and ignorant, so far.
Earthbound for centuries and ruled by the Elders, they have established hidden cities, a society and The Code: obey your Elders, kill all demons, eliminate Rogue-angels, protect the mortals, remain hidden. Their warriors are the ungifted earthborn angels armed with blades and the ‘borrowed magics’ of distilled angel-blood tattoos.
Alyxandria is a young warrior with a fondness for customized knives and illegal night-races. If only she could overcome the taint of her parents who abandoned her to become Rogues.
When Alyx saves Israel, a gifted mortal with a past, she is forbidden to see him again. But she can’t help herself, drawn to him through their Guardian-bond, an ancient and long-forgotten bond; if he dies, she dies.
An encounter with a handsome Rogue leaves Alyx questioning all she has been taught to believe. Alyx begins to dig into the Elders’ secrets. Two thousand years of secrets that begin with the death of the Archangel Raphael. She is not prepared when she uncovers an Elder’s dark plan.
Somewhere on earth is a key to unlock hell. Somewhere on earth are pieces of an amulet that controls Lucifer and his army. Somehow Israel is the link and now both sides are after him. Who can Alyx trust when Good and Evil is no longer clear?
The war for earth begins.

EXCERPT 1:“This is going to sound crazy.” She presses her palm to her forehead.
He laughs softly. “Remember who you’re talking too.”
“Right,” she says. “I think it’s time I admitted some things to you. But you have to promise not to freak out or get angry before I finish, okay?”“Okay.”
“Remember the last time we met, you asked me how I happened to come by the alley in time to save your life…”
“A lucky coincidence.”

“It wasn’t. I knew you would be there, I knew you were being attacked.”Israel frowns. “How?”
Alyx takes a deep breath - no turning back now - and begins to tell him about her visions of him. Then to prove she isn’t lying she describes each one.
“Let me get this straight,” he says. “You see things through my eyes?”
“Essentially, yes. That’s how I knew where to find you then. And tonight.”
“Do you hear my thoughts as well?”
“Just whatever thoughts you have at the time.”
“That is...” his eyes blaze at her, “...so frickin’ cool.”
Her mouth parts as she sucks in air, realizing that she has been holding her breath. “You think so?”
“Think about it Alyx. You have been inside my body, felt my heart beating as if it were your own, felt how I feel, thought as I thought. You know what it’s like for me.” He leans forward as he speaks, grabbing her hands. “You don’t just know me, you know me.”
Alyx swallows, hard. His eyes have a way of making her feel like she is underdressed. Alyx wonders for a moment whether he can see inside her as she does him.
