Summer Sales, Free Reads and More

Hello everyone,
I hope you are enjoying your summer so far. It's been a whirlwind of busy for me. My daughter graduated high school at the beginning of June. My youngest finished 5th grade mid-June.
Then we were off to Michigan's Upper Peninsula for a week long vacation where we did all the things we could and my girl did orientation at her college for three days. The guys enjoyed that time on the lake fishing, boating and kayaking. I took a much needed rest to unplug and do nothing but read. After she finished orientation we played tourist and checked out the lighthouses, shipwrecks, pictured rocks and waterfalls.
If you've never been to Michigan's UP I highly recommend it- especially if you are a nature lover. This was my first time and I was overwhelmed by the sheer amount of nature. Forests, waterfalls, lakes...so beautiful.
Just be prepared to unplug, cell service is spotty to non-existent except in the larger cities (Marquette and Munising) and no one offers free wifi.
On our way home we stopped in Mackinaw City- I can't wait to return because there is so much more to do and see.
What are you plans for the summer? Reading? Writing? Book promotion?
All of the above for me and then some.

Panic set in, her brain wouldn't engage and her mouth took off on its own. "I..I didn't mean to wwake you.  Only wanted to apologize for whatever I said the other night that pissed you off," she stammered." God -- Can I embarrass myself anymore? Her cheeks felt like they were on fire as she whirled away from him in an attempt to compose herself.  When she turned around, he’d leaned one shoulder against the doorframe, crossed his arms over his sculptured chest, but his smoldering gaze over her body should have incinerated the clothes she was wearing.Resting her hand on her hip she tilted her chin up, her gaze met his. "Like what you see?" Oh my god, where did that come from?  Her hand flew to her mouth again. "Anyway, I'm sorry." She turned and sprinted down the steps.  By the time she reached her car, he was leaning nonchalantly against her driver’s side door. "How did you do that?""Practice." He blinked at her. "Why don't you come in and have a cup of coffee, obviously you are having caffeine withdrawals. I warmed up a couple of cinnamon rolls and apple fritters.  Would you like one?"   Not waiting for an answer, he sauntered up the steps. Her knees when weak, she licked her lips. "Coming?""No…. I have to go,” she stammered. “I was on my way home after a run.  But thanks for the invitation.""Suit yourself.”  He strolled through the doorway and paused turned back to peer at her. "Sure?"Her stomach growled loudly. Traitorous organ.  "Maybe just a bite and a big cup of coffee." She plodded up the stairs and followed him into the kitchen filled with the aroma of warm cinnamon and apples

Gravestones and Wicked Bones by D.D. Miers and B. Crow

Can you tell readers a little bit about yourself and what inspired to write in this particular genre?
Sure! My name is D.D. Miers and I write Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance. I absolutely adore all things ‘otherworld’. Some of my favorite shows are Roswell, Legion, Lucifer, Salem, The Originals. I have what my mom refers to as a very vivid imagination. Inspired by some real life events, I’ve been dreaming of vampires, fairies, werewolves, sorcerers and magic since as long as I can remember.
What is it about the paranormal, in particular vampires, that fascinates you so much?
I just love the range of possibilities. You take the normal and completely twist it with the ‘what-if’. I really enjoy the otherworldly side of the universe. I have a vampire series coming out this year that I am also excited to share.

Please tell us about your latest release.
Gravestones & Wicked Bones is the first book in the Shadow Creatures Series. I have at least 3 more books planned centered around this world. Ivy (The heroine of Gravestones) will appear in multiple books, but we are also going to meet her sisters as well. This is a really fun, exciting story with plenty of heat and romance. My favorite thing about Gravestones is Ivy. She isn’t some damsel in distress, she’s a kickass chick who has been taking care of her sisters most of her life and her love interest, Dante, is one sexy beast.
With the book being part of a series, are there any character or story arcs, that readers jumping in somewhere other than the first book, need to be aware of? Can these books be read as stand alones?
The idea is to make each book in the shadow creatures it’s own story that’s part of the larger world within the interconnected series. Reading them in order won’t be mandatory, but it will be a great way to experience each characters journey as a whole.

Do you write in different genres?
I do! I actually have a Romantic Suspense Series I write as well as some Sweet romances under the pen name Everly Archard

What are your guilty pleasures in life?
Baskin Robbins chocolate chip ice-cream and sushi! Not together, but one after the other works great for me. J
Other than writing, what are some of your interests, hobbies or passions in life?
I love to garden and practice yoga. I also love to try out new food recipes. I recently binge watched the Handmaidens Tale on Hulu. So addicting.
What was the last amazing book you read?
Forbidden by Katrina Snow was absolutely fantastic. I Highly recommend it. She’s a rising star in the indie world for sure.
Where is your favorite place to read? Do you have a cozy corner or special reading spot?
Honestly, anywhere I can get the chance to have a bit of quiet time. Mostly that happens in bed after the kiddo goes to sleep.
What can readers expect next from you?
Well I’ve got a TON of stuff coming in 2017 & Beyond. This year I have planned 5 releases. Some Dark Fae books, more in the Shadow Creatures Series, more in my Relic Keeper Series, a new Dragon Centric Urban Fantasy and a really awesome Vampire Series that B. Crow and I are doing together.
Where can readers find you on the web?

I’m also on all the social media sites!

Half Fae. Half Demon. 100% Badass Bitch.
My sisters and I weren’t born with magic. No, we were forced into it. Betrayed into it by the one person who was supposed to protect us. Now we’re living in a shithole desert town at the mercy of a sexy-as-hell Fae named Bastian.
So far, I’ve been able to buy Violet and Jade time to live freely, without being held to Bastian’s constant call. I’ve been doing his dirty work for five long years, but my sisters’ freedom is wearing thin. Soon he’ll summon them, just as he did me—and I can’t let that happen.
Bastian’s latest assignment offers an escape for my sisters, and I’d be a fool not to take it. But my target is more powerful than any man I’ve faced before, and doubly seductive. He draws out my inner demons—literally—and evading this attraction might prove more difficult than finishing what I started.
The first book in a New Series by Award-Winning Urban Fantasy & Paranormal Romance Author D.D. Miers & B. Crow. Perfect for fans of Mercy Thompson, Jane Yellowrock and Alex Craft!

Excerpt #2:Rohan’s arm shot out to the wall, blocking me. The two of us faced in different directions. How apt.“Move,” I saidHe didn’t budge.I stared resolutely ahead. Finally he dropped his arm.I pulled my keycard from my coat, walking directly to my room. No passing go. No collecting $200. “Don’t leave.” He spoke quietly but in the silence of the corridor, I had no trouble hearing him.My hands balled up. Hadn’t it been enough for one night? That thread between us that had felt so comforting earlier threatened to strangle me now. Anger fueled my turn. I would have welcomed a corresponding anger in him, but the naked longing on his face and the defeat in the slope of his shoulders undid me. That and his sincere, “I love watching you dance.”The hallway was empty but it suddenly felt hard to breathe. He held out a hand.I leaned back. The magnetic push/pull between us demanded a certain distance, a certain resistance, as much as attraction. Wrung out on every level, I couldn’t afford to let Mr. Force-of-Nature Mitra take advantage of my weakened boundaries to redefine our hook-ups into whatever vision he had of them. The air conditioning kicked in and I wrapped my arms around myself.“When you see my shower, you’ll thank me.” He scrunched up his face, a lock of hair falling boyishly over his eyes. “Nothing happens. Just sleep.”
I wasn’t sure if that sweetened the offer or not, but I nodded.

Blood and Orgasms – An Alexis Black Short Story by Jenn Windrow

I needed blood and an orgasm.  Not necessarily in that order.  At least that’s what Nathan’s been telling me for weeks.  I guess even best friends can’t stand a moody bitch.Good thing I’m a girl who likes to multi-task.I allowed Nathan to tart me up in a black dress so low-cut, one wrong move would expose my not-very-abundant assets. We headed to a local human hot spot, and walked past a line of scantily clad woman and wanna-be Rico Sauvé’s. Once inside, he sat me down at the bar and pointed his finger in my face.  “Alexis Black, you’re not getting off that stool until some unlucky sod agrees to take you home and shag you senseless.”Sheesh.  “It’s not going to take all night.  We’ll be out of here before you know it.”  I waved him off.  “Well, aim high, don’t hop on the first one that comes your way.”   He rubbed my shoulders. “Relax.  You’ll scare away all the good ones.”  He gave me a peck on my cheek and wandered off in search of his own pulsing vein.Ten minutes.  Thirty minutes.  Fifty minutes.  Not one man approached me.  I pulled a compact out of my purse and checked my reflection. No food in my teeth. No objects in my nose.  No fangs. My stomach rumbled at the smell of the blood pumping through the humans on the dance floor. So enticing I had to grab the bottom of my stool to keep from snatching someone for a quick bite.  Next time I shouldn’t wait to long to feed, but I liked drinking blood as much as I liked sitting in this club.
A tap on my shoulder, and my night was looking up. I tuned around to meet my lucky admirer.  The man behind me made my lips droop. Now I was really depressed.Mr. Mustard Stained Tie and receding hairline pointed a ring-clad finger at my half empty glass.  “Can I get you another?”I was about to tell him no, but then I saw Nathan’s desperate nod from across the room.  Damn.  I’ve officially reached a new low.  I pasted an overly enthusiastic smile on my face.  “I’d love that.”He pulled out a stool and almost toppled over trying to climb on. I grabbed his arm and helped him into his seat. This evening was turning into a disaster.  I still needed blood, but I think the orgasm might be out of the question.  I looked at my only option for the night, a dead ringer for Joe Pesci in the Goodfellas.  The orgasm was definitely out of question. For ten minutes I forced myself to listen to the overeager human try to impress me with his less than stellar achievements in life.  Bored.  Hungry.  Uninterested.  I’d had enough. “Want to go somewhere private?”He opened his mouth to say yes, but before the word fled his lips Mr. tall-dark-and-oh-my-god walked up. He grabbed my hand, pulled me from my seat, and rescued me from what was sure to be a walk of shame.   We passed by Nathan, whose cheeks were nice and rosy from his liquid dinner.  He gave me a thumbs up.I followed my last chance for the night like horny teenager to a two-story red brick walk up. After he opened the door, he gestured for me to go ahead of him. The room I entered was solid white.  White walls, white floors, white couch, white leather armchair.  And that was all. The door slammed.  The lock clicked.  I turned and my mouth fell open.  Mr. tall-dark-and-oh-my-god was now sporting a pair of solid black wings and a mischievous smile.Things were not going as planned.  "Who are you?  What are you?""Caleb.  Angel."He gestured to the couch.  “Sit. Please. Alexis.”The words weren’t a request, and I don’t like to be told what to do.  “Not gonna happen.”“Fine.”  He walked over to the chair, pulled his wings in tight and took a seat.  “You may remain standing.”I walked over to the couch and sat down.He let out a small laugh like I amused him.  “What a predictable creature you are.”“Since eating you and fucking you seem to be out of the question, what do you want?”
He adjusted the crease of his tailored black pants and the cuffs of his starched dress shirt.  “I have a offer for you.  An offer that will change your undead life.”

Excerpt:
Tonight’s job had me sitting in a shadowy corner of a dead-end dive watching the unfortunate, the hopeless, and the degenerate. Had I known this is how I’d be spending my one hundred and seventy-third birthday, I would have called in sick.An aging cocktail waitress hustled to over-serve society’s misfits. An ex-con, a dealer, and an addict pissed their lives away at the far end of the bar. A trio of prostitutes circled the room, their knock-off stiletto’s clicking on the wooden floor. And a single cockroach scurried for cover before being squashed. How would the humans feel about me, the vampire, hiding in their shadows? One of the battered bar stools toppled, throwing its occupant to the filthy concrete. The man, in a faded red and black flannel shirt, picked himself up off the floor. Dingy jeans slid down his hips, revealing a pair of boxers far past the expiration date for a wash. He bumped and weaved his way through the crowd, ignoring the spilled drinks and curses he left in his wake, and cut a crooked but determined path right to my table. He collapsed into the booth next to me, blocking my only chance at escape. “How’s ’bout a drink?”I wrinkled my nose at what had to be three days’ worth of sweat and grime, raised my bottle and sloshed the liquid from side to side. “Still nursing this one.” I focused on a faded picture of the Blues Brothers nailed to the wall and hoped he’d take the hint. A sharp tap on my shoulder told me this guy was either clueless or didn’t give a shit. My money was on clueless.“What’s your name, sexy?”Oh how I wanted to ignore his question, but the last thing I needed was Mr. Drunk and Stupid to cause a scene and blow my cover. “Alexis.”His grease-coated fingers played “Get the Buggy” up my arm. I slapped them away before they got past my elbow. “How’s ’bout we get to know each other better?” He gave me a lopsided wink and ogled my breasts.
When he looked at me, he saw what every other human did, a twenty-three year old, petite brunette with large, light blue eyes. But if he leaned in close, he would see what lurked below the exterior, something sinister and scary, with sharp fangs and a deadly personality.

Excerpt from Chapter One:

The tortured should not dream.Daydreams, nightmares, and illusionsGenerate a hellish reality. The mind plays gamesThe story begins
I have lived around in different places, moving from an apartment to a friend’s house, to somewhere else, because jobs are hard to come by and don’t generally pay much. When I was in my twenties, I moved in with my grandparents. People used to call my grandmother Mama Dorothy, and my grandfather was known as Paypuh Bill, for dollar bill. They needed help—someone to take care of them if they got sick and needed a doctor right away, or someone to run errands for them that were no longer easy for them to do as they were getting on in years. And I was surely thankful for a clean place to lay my head at night.Mama Dorothy had diabetes, and her foot was lame. It did not permit of much walking. Besides, she weighed enough for three sizable women. She had stopped going to the hairdresser to have her hair straightened years before and decided that having a woman come into her kitchen, bringing the strong acids and hot irons used to straighten black hair was more torture than it was worth. So she let her hair grow nappy. She had lived long enough, and Lord knew she had suffered enough that she had earned the right to be comfortable.Paypuh Bill was rail thin. The hair on top of his head was mostly gone. Years before I moved in, he had worked as a chauffeur for some rich white folks. He had also worked washing dishes in an assortment of greasy spoons and fast-food restaurants. Once, he had even worked as a bouncer in a strip joint. But that was a long time ago. The part of his life that would never let him go were those terrible years he had spent overseas as an enlisted man in the army. The fighting and the killing gave him nightmares almost worse than any of the nightmares he had from the Ku Klux Klan. And he’d never had to go overseas to experience any of their wretched nonsense. We sort of got into a routine. I would truck off to work in the morning, to do whatever work I had that month or that season, then I would come home to make sure there was supper for the three of us. We usually ate sitting in the living room, watching the news on television.
Mama Dorothy would begin talking then. Sometimes she would yell at the newscaster, telling him he was a blind idiot if he couldn’t see it was the end times coming for all of us. The only book she ever read was the Bible. She would grab it from the table beside her and thumb her way through it to Revelations—her favorite book in the Bible. From that source, she would shout out the verses about wars, one country attacking another, and the Antichrist who would soon show his face. She hadn’t quite made up her mind who that infamous person would be, though there were a few close contenders for the honor. However, the end times were surely coming this very minute, and we all must repent so that we would be ready to face the Lord when he came down to walk upon this earth again, with his fiery sword, ready to distribute grave affliction to any and all who do not believe in him. The Lord sounded like a dangerous fellow. He was not the kind of person I would want to invite into my home.

Tagline: Fur meets fang on the streets of L.A.
Wolf in the City by Linda Thomas-Sundstrom
Deep in the heart of L.A., in an area that cops and gangs fear, lone wolf Jared James stands guard, hoping to keep others from suffering a similar fate to the one he has endured. He is on a mission to find the monster that made him what he is. Meeting Kit, a feisty vampire with a mission of her own, will either help or hinder his chances to accomplish that goal . . .  but could possibly bridge the divide between two species, and make the long nights much more interesting.

WOLF IN THE CITY: ExcerptLinda Thomas-Sundstrom
The watcher he had detected early on appeared on the stone ledge above him, offering Jared another surprise. The female entity was human-like in shape, and almost could have passed for human. But wasn’t.She was tall, her silhouette extremely narrow. And she had been flexible enough to swing herself up to that ledge. Dressed in body-hugging clothes dark enough to blend with the night, Jared’s unwelcome visitor gave off no viable scent for him to plug into his mental databanks.Definitely not human. But what? What kind of anomaly had no scent or heat signature? What other type of being appeared to be human, but wasn’t?The night, Jared decided, had just gotten a whole hell of a lot more interesting. With the shadows at her back and a hood covering her hair, the female’s face wasn’t visible. The part about failing to notice how close she had actually been to his position on the corner gave Jared a twinge of dissatisfaction. This watcher could have had the upper hand if she’d wanted to, for the five seconds it would have taken before the brutality of Jared’s full strength kicked in… and if she had been three feet taller, a hell of a lot broader, and also carried a machine gun.Though she was drenched in shadows, Jared saw her raise one hand. The object she displayed glittered wickedly in a slender shaft of moonlight, garnering Jared’s full attention. Across her palm lay one of the knives he had taken from the pair of ruffians he’d left humiliated in the alley. The same damn weapon they had waved at him.Jared shoved a hand into his pocket. Both knives were missing.
Growls of anger bubbled up inside him.

Tagline:  Never try to deny the she-wolf inside.
Wolf, Interrupted by Jillian Stone
Elle Hathaway has spent most of her young life in fear of herself. At least the part of her that grows fangs and claws. With the help of a lycanthrope suppressant, she’s made it through puberty, university, even her first job without so much as a shift. Then one night, deep in the tunnels of the Underground, her life changes forever.
Detective Inspector Abelseth Durant is investigating the lethal mauling of an unknown victim in the Covent Garden tube station, and Ms. Elle Hathaway is a person of interest. Sensing her wolf nature, he is mystified by the lovely young woman, and when Elle is abducted by a rival pack, Abelseth realizes he is being pulled back into London’s wolfen underworld.
Shaken out of blissful denial, Elle teams up with the handsome inspector to evade the renegade pack. But as her situation grows dire, Abelseth knows the only way he can truly protect the strong-willed beauty is to convince her to shift and claim her as his mate. There’s just one little problem with his plan—the reluctant Ms. Hathaway.
Excerpt Wolf, Interrupted by Jillian Stone:
Detective Inspector Durant was a hottie and he knew it. What remained in his favor, she supposed, was that he didn’t seem to pay much attention to his looks, hence the unkemptness, nor did he appear overly impressed with himself. He sat quietly in front of her, consulting his smartphone.“Looks like New Scotland Yard has gone paperless. Rather high tech of them, wouldn’t you say?”“I thought we might start with your police report. You can confirm, make corrections, elaborate—whatever comes to mind.” He glanced up at her. “If you need clarification, feel free to ask me anything.”
Elle immediately thought of two good questions: Have a girlfriend? Looking for one?
