I am thankful...(giveaway)

for my man and my minions and my fat dog. My family, my career, all the wonderful people I get to interact with on a regular basis.
I'm so thankful I'm doing a paperback giveaway here on Unapologetic Fiction from today through the weekend. Monday I'll draw a lucky winner from a hat and send them a print copy of the illustrated erotic anthology NAKED DELIRIUM for his/her bookshelf.

All you have to do is leave me a comment that includes what book you are most thankful for. Or you can do a writer. Or you can do both if you are oozing with gratitude of the written word.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving. I am thankful for all of you, the folks who come and read me regularly. I am thankful that enough people read and appreciate my work that I can make a living doing what I have always wanted to do from as far back as I can remember.
Now that's being blessed. Thank you :)
XOXO

Another stop, another chance...
Brotherhood
The thing that draws me about the idea of shifters—and makes me write them—is the idea of this undeniable brotherhood. A pack. A pride. A group of beings who are similar, often secret, who stick together as a family unit.
Then I break that rule.
I broke that rule with my wolf Garrett in Base Nature, I mostly broke it in Big Bad, Ellis was a lone wolfish guy of sorts. And this time I broke it in reverse because my lion Tryg’s pride had pretty much pushed him away. They want something from him, but they also want him gone.
The draw of writing Divination Falls for me was taking that brotherhood—that sense of community—that should come in the pack or the pride or the flock or the school or whatever and making it a place that is a mish mash of shifters and other magical types who have formed their own unit. The unit is full of some interesting characters.
You meet some of them in book one and you meet even more in upcoming book two (Beast in Me). I sort of began to think of it as a Twin Peaks for shifters and magical. Which was super fun!
I hope you come visit this magical little town. Where everyone in the shifter community is welcome. And even some who are just…different. It’s an eclectic little town where they make family out of those around them. Which I’ve always done myself. I think family is what you make of it, not something you are born with and therefore stuck with.
Stella Harris was kind enough to have me as a guest post on her blog as part of my Lion Hearted blog tour.
Are there any books or movies that you adore that give a sense of community or brotherhood? I’d love to hear about them. I’m a sucker for a story like that. Leave me a comment here or at Stella's for a chance to win an All Romance Ebooks $10 gift certificate (there are even some tentacle gifties shown on my blog. You get those too). I’ll go through all the comments along the Lion Hearted blog tour and draw a winner when all is said and done!
Who's ready for turkey day? Ha! Not me! But I hope to be more ready by the end of the day. Wish me luck. May the freaking force be with me!
XOXO

What would *you* do?

So...I just had an interesting experience in the library. I had to take boy child to get some books for a research report now that he's feeling a wee bit better from last week. When I pulled up, there was a woman getting out of her car. She turned her back to me as she rifled through her back seat and my jaw almost unhinged.
I mean, she was in an adorable outfit. Nude colored sweater dress, knee high chocolate brown boots. She looked adorable. With the exception of one thing. I could see completely through her dress. At first I was pretty sure I could see so much I was seeing her skeletal system, but in actuality it was enough that I could see that her thong was black (or dark navy or purple) as was her bra. And given that it was a thong, I could see her ass cheeks (she must work out) and she was curvy so yeah, curves.
I was hoping it was the sun, but as we followed (only one path to the door!) I could see that sun wasn't the culprit.
I said to boy child (arleady mortified, was he) "Should I tell her?"
"Dear God, no!"
"But I would want to know."
"If you tell her, I'm leaving."
I tend to embarrass him often. Daily, if not on some days, hourly.
It haunted me. It was a loop in my head as I found her sitting on the upper level at a table. Alone.
I would want to know...I would want to know...
I said it to boy child again. "Jesus, would you tell me if I was about to go out like that? Clearly she doesn't know. There's no way she can know." (She did not exude the uber confident manner of someone who knew and did not care. Call it a hunch.)
"I would tell you," says he. "But we do not tell strangers!"
But he could see it eating at me. He knows me too well. And he's a super good kid.
Finally, with a sigh he says, "Fine. Go do a good deed. Go tell the stranger she might as well be here naked."
So I sent him downstairs and waited a beat. Then I slid into the seat next to her and started. "Look...I debated telling you this but I would want to know..."
She turned 50 Shades of Tomato (sorry, I couldn't resist) and thanked me.
Good deed done. Right? Or was it? What about you? Would you have told her? All I could think is, what if this is her favorite outfit in the world and no one says anything because they'd feel embarrassed. How many times will she wear this thing before someone finally speaks up or, the worst of all, she accidentally finds out and then is horrified at how many times she went out basically nude.
Was I helpful or a buttinsky?
XOXO

I love to do this...(or I am feeling procrastinatish)
On a regular basis because I am so damn nosy I love to know what people are reading, watching, listening to or obsessed with at any given time. I wanted to show off some of my most recent obsessions and maybe if you're bored on this chilly November Sunday, you'll drop me a comment about your recent obsessions.
Here we go:

(click any images to go to the items on Amazon and read about my obsessions)
Vacation by Matthew Costello. Now...I won his book Home on Goodreads (yay, me!) and I realized that it was a book two. So I bought book one and...ate that sucker whole. I have not devoured a book in two days (two busy days, mind you) in a very long time. And even more rare than me reading a book that fast is me reading a sequel immediately after a first book. I have a thing about that. I prefer a break between the books but for this one...I could not wait! So I moved on to...

Wowza Wow! A sequel as good as the original book...unheard of. But no, not really. Because this one was. And I ate that super fast too (heh, that is a joke as there are cannibals in these here books) and I was left wondering, hoping...crossing fingers that there will be a third book. So, Matthew Costello I'm sure you're reading this (*snort*), please write me another book. It can be a birthday gift.
In the midst of all this I've been doing a lot of baking. Gluten Free of course. I bought the second book by Gluten Free on a Shoestring and have made some real yummy things for my tummy. Baking gets me away from the computer, my work and the imaginary people in my head who sometimes won't shut up. So if I'm baking a lot, it's to find my Zen. These were pretty Zen and pretty damn good too.
Yum, yum, yum! I barely shared. They were very fast, very easy and made my house smell terrific. Even the boy child who often shuns the GF food, no matter how tasty, ate them like a rabid wolverine. All recipes were found in this nifty book:

While you're waiting for yours to arrive visit her blog Gluten Free on a Shoestring. I made pumpkin butter this week from a recipe on the blog. I took a break from my writing and whipped up some tasty tasty crack. I mean, pumpkin butter. I swear you can make it while you're checking your email and Twitter and Facebook. Not that I do that often. *cough*
Let's see, what else? Walking the dog, plotting (my first) Thanksgiving, doing stuff with the man because he's off this week. (Get your mind out of the gutter. I meant stuff, stuff. Not that stuff. Okay, that stuff too, so you can leave your mind a wee bit in the gutter. Just a touch.)
And last night quite by accident I stumbled over this movie on cable and was flat out horrified/mesmerized as I watched it. Boy child came down 1/2 way through and told me it was Kevin Smith's movie and some of the background and quickly planted his skinny, sick (he's been v sick) ass in the rocking chair and watched the rest with me. Wow. If you want a scary because it's nearly true (or could be true *shiver*) movie that grips you by the short and curlies and won't let go...Red State is your movie.

Last but not least is my current addiction to Doomsday Preppers on National Geographic Channel. I'm not saying it's really getting to me, but I do check out the price of water and *cough* canned and dried goods a lot now. And I have twice as much food in my pantry as I used to. And I make wish lists that include flashlights and glow sticks and...solar lanterns.
Okay, I need to go clean now. This blog was basically a giant procrastination technique. If you feel like procrastinating too, drop me a comment and tell me what you've been up to: reading, watching, listening too and discussing. I'd love to know. I'm nosy that way.
XOXO

The Story Behind the Story: Sadey Quinn
Happy Saturday! I have a SBTS for you. And away we go with Sadey Quinn.
p.s. If you hit Sadey's blog you can read an excerpt from her story! ;)
~~~
Story behind the story:
I love power dynamics. Kink, bondage, and all the glitter aside...what really gets me going is domination, submission, and the intricate mental gymnastics related to power exchange. I love power hungry, arrogant doms, and I love calm, cool alphas who subtly take control. I love bratty subs who push limits just as much as I love the subs who truly, to their very core, want to obey.
Often, my writing reflects this passion (obsession?) of mine. So, naturally, when I sat down to write 'Zombie Goddess'--my story for Sommer Marsden's collection of zombie erotica--I played with the theme of power, control, and what might happen in a BDSM scene starring a human and a zombie.
Another concept I messed around with for this story is making the typical antagonist--the decrepit, brain-hungry zombie--into my protagonist. I wanted my zombie to feel amazing, empowered, and...well, I wanted her to feel hot. So my star is a sexy, newly un-dead zombie woman. She's not after brains to eat. Instead, she's learning to enjoy finding minds to fuck.
Author Bio:
Sadey Quinn writes erotic novels and erotic short stories, often with BDSM and/or spanking themes. She's a digital nomad, moving from place to place in order to share time and laughter with as many people as possible in a variety of locales. When not writing, she's reading, hiking, cooking, or drinking good beer with friends--not mutually exclusive hobbies! Her novels include Under Order and Social Service - BDSM themed novels set in a kink-friendly community.
Her latest release is a novella called Under His Roof, and her current project is the sequel to that novella, entitled: Taking His Hand. Both stories explore the concept of domestic discipline.
The Story Behind the Story: Blacksilk
When I saw that there was an erotic zombie anthology in the works, I knew I had to get involved for two main reasons. The first was that I am a massive geek and slightly nerdy anthology themes like this one really appeal to my inner twelfth-level ranger. Although I still haven't watched enough zombie films (because who has?), I'm a big zombie fan. In fact, there was a good few months of my life where my erotic side had to take a big step back because I was too busy being obsessed with playing Left 4 Dead to write my sex blog. Zombies are awesome.
The second reason was that I considered it a real challenge. I haven't been writing erotic fiction properly for long and a story that skirted between horror and eroticism sounded a good thing to try to stretch my writing muscles. I really wanted to do a story featuring sex with a zombie as opposed to “some zombies and some sex” because I figured that if I could make fucking the undead sexy, well, I could probably write anything sexy.
But a solid idea escaped me. Little snippets of hooks and settings plagued me, but none called to me enough to run with. I knew a story had to grab me by the balls to work. Finally, I said to myself that if I didn't get anything in the next day, I'd stop stressing and give up. That, of course, is when it came to me and Last Man on Earth was born.
I knew that Sommer wanted to be surprised if we were going for zombie sex and I really wanted to achieve that, so I picked what I felt was an usual take on the zombie theme. For a start, in my story, there's a singular zombie. He's not even dead. In fact, he's more of a L4D-style “Infected”.
I'm not giving away too much (the clue is in the title, after all) by saying that the idea for my story was inspired by the graphic novel series Y: The Last Man, which you should really read if you haven't. It's amazing. In any case, with men scarce in a post-zombocalypse world, what would happen to possibly the Last Man on Earth? And what would young women do to get their hands on him?
More about Blacksilk....
Blacksilk is a sex blogger and fledgling erotic writer from Cardiff whose latest story recently won the Lovehoney Erotic Story Competition, becoming the lead story for the soon-to-be-released anthology Take Your Partner and other tales of seduction. When not writing smut, reviewing sex toys or drawing filthy pictures for her sex blog, she likes to roll dice, sniff leather and drink too many cups of tea.
Her story in Hungry for Love is her first erotic fiction to be officially published, though the first one she wrote for publication will be out on December 12th in Tiffany Reisz's FELT TIPS. Blacksilk is currently toying with ideas for an erotic sci-fi piece tentatively titled “Universal Lubricant”.
Here's When I Wish I Was a Crazy Used Car Salesman...
I'd have signs and a dancing gorilla and a roller skating hottie in satin shorts. What a deal! It's a steal! Come see us TODAY! Heh.
For a limited time (not sure how long), all my Excessica novels are being offered at a reduced price. That would include Angry Sex, Learning to Drown, Big Bad, Long Lost, Christmas Break, etc. Not just on Excessica, but on Amazon, Fictionwise, ARe etc. Most have gone from 6.99 and up to 4.99 across the board. Some may be lower at 2.99. If the new price is not reflected at your favorite vendor (it will show as the regular price since this is not a sale) it will soon.
Stuff that Black Friday shopping sack while you can. Fill your stocking! Deck your um...you get it. I don't know when they'll go back up so get 'em while you can! :)
Call for Submissions: Missed Connections
Morning, all. After a late night of watching Doomsday Preppers (dude, my new favorite show addiction) I'm typing this with one eye open whilst clutching a cuppa. Today we have a call for submissions via Stella Harris. So, hey, why not sharpen your pencils and lick the tip and...see, already it sounds dirty. What I mean to say is, why not give this call a try!
XOXO
Sommer
~~~~
I’m thrilled to announce that I’m editing an anthology for Storm Moon Press. I’ve been working with them for most of the year and have been consistently impressed with how well they treat their authors.
I’ve been kicking around the idea of a Missed Connections anthology for a while now and I’m very excited to be making it a reality.
Please take a look at the details of the call below and feel free to share this information far and wide.
I can’t wait to read your amazing stories!
Submission Deadline: January 1, 2013
Expected Release: May 3, 2013
Genres: Contemporary
Theme: General
Pairings: Heterosexual
Word count: 10,000 – 20,000
No matter how happy we eventually become with our lives, we never forget the one who got away. Maybe it was the handsome stranger on the subway who smiled so sweetly but hit his stop before you had the chance to say hello. Or the adorable girl at the coffee shop who caught you reading her favorite book but had to get to class and couldn’t stay to chat. Everyone has a story of that epic love that never was. But what if there could be a happy ending after all?
What happens when you meet that incredible someone you just can’t get out of your mind? Just chalk it up to a lost opportunity? Or do you take a chance and try to track them down? Enter the “Missed Connection” ad. Just a when, a where, and a description of the two people involved, but each one representing a love in potential if only the stars were to align just right.
Show us the stories of the connections that don’t go missed forever. Every story should contain one of the characters leaving a short “Missed Connection” ad in a newspaper or on a website, and the romance that begins when the ad is answered. Stories can be sweet or funny or surprising, but should definitely be hot and steamy. Let’s see how sparks fly when two ships passing in the night finally come together. Twists and turns, heartache and angst, are all fine along the way, but for Missed Connections we’d like your characters to find their HEA or HFN ending.
Read the full SMP sumbission guidelines.
