Another stop, another chance...
Brotherhood
The thing that draws me about the idea of shifters—and makes me write them—is the idea of this undeniable brotherhood. A pack. A pride. A group of beings who are similar, often secret, who stick together as a family unit.
Then I break that rule.
I broke that rule with my wolf Garrett in Base Nature, I mostly broke it in Big Bad, Ellis was a lone wolfish guy of sorts. And this time I broke it in reverse because my lion Tryg’s pride had pretty much pushed him away. They want something from him, but they also want him gone.
The draw of writing Divination Falls for me was taking that brotherhood—that sense of community—that should come in the pack or the pride or the flock or the school or whatever and making it a place that is a mish mash of shifters and other magical types who have formed their own unit. The unit is full of some interesting characters.
You meet some of them in book one and you meet even more in upcoming book two (Beast in Me). I sort of began to think of it as a Twin Peaks for shifters and magical. Which was super fun!
I hope you come visit this magical little town. Where everyone in the shifter community is welcome. And even some who are just…different. It’s an eclectic little town where they make family out of those around them. Which I’ve always done myself. I think family is what you make of it, not something you are born with and therefore stuck with.
