Thierry Pepin Official; New Release Dates

Thierry Pepin Official

I once posted about a male clothing catalogue called International Male, and the product of this catalogue, UnderGear. This is how I described both catalogues back then:

Over the years International Male evolved in various ways. When all the tacky flashy Vegas styles of the 1970's went bust and the more conservative 1980's preppy look took over, I thought for sure they'd go out of business. The only people who wore the clothes from IM in the 80's and 90's were people...

What Is Heteronormativity?

What Is Heteronormativity?

This is how it's defined by wiki:

Heteronormativity is the body of lifestyle norms that hold that people fall into distinct and complementary genders ( man and woman ) with natural roles in life . It presumes that heterosexuality is the only sexual orientation or only norm, and states that sexual and marital relations are most (or only) fitting between people of opposite sexes. Consequently, a "heteronormative" view is one that involves alignment of biological sex , sexua...

Men Hate Jane Austen; Paula Deen Wins in Court; Australia Gay Marriage

Men Hate Jane Austen

In Time Magazine this week writer Joel Stein wrote a humorous column titled, Stein and Sensibility. It deals with how men react to anything Jane Austen related, including the new movie, Austenland , with more than a few amusing quotes. The online link is here, but you won't get the entire piece until later this month because Time charges for fresh online content. I get a subscription, so these are quotes from the print magazine.

Listening to rich women p...

Fifty Shades for Fifty Cents; Daddy Week P'town

Fifty Shades for Fifty Cents

This isn't anything all that significant, but this past weekend while running errands I stopped at two garage sales around town and found two copies of Fifty Shades of Grey being sold at different places for fifty cents each.

I wanted to take photos, but didn't want to infringe on the homeowner's privacy. But I did ask what they thought of the book and each one said they never finished it...and they'd expected something different.

Daddy Week P'town

This is something...

10 Writing Myths; Bookstores Hocking Us For Money, Too

10 Writing Myths

I don't know how naughty Chuck Sambuchino is, but he did write a killer piece for WD that gets into 10 Writing Myths...and more...I couldn't agree with more. I also added a few of my own myths, below.

This is so true:

2. Author quotes are completely unbiased. (They’re usually given by friends, or requested by an author’s editor or agent.)

8. Don’t worry about grammar or spelling; that’s what an editor does. (If an editor receives a submission that is poorly written, she sto...

Gay Parents Flee Russia; Gay Russian Teens; Growing up Gay in Russia

Gay Parents Flee Russia

The things that are happening right now in Russia to LGBT people aren't getting any better. The article to which I'm linking puts many things into perspective with LGBT people who have children. We're fighting for marriage and that hasn't been simple, but they're fighting for their lives.

Two things happened to me the same month: I was beaten up in front of parliament for the first time and I realised that in all my interactions, including professional ones, I no l...

Kickstarter's Competition; Joan Rivers Slammed by Fashion Police Writers

Kickstarter's Competition

I've posted about Kickstarter, with my own personal mixed feelings (I'm not against it if the project is really interesting and the company really needs the money to get started). I've also posted about how Hollywood types like Spike Lee are seeking funds on Kickstarter, instead of mortgaging their own mansions (a $10 donation gets you a signed post card from Spike...I'd rather flush $10 down my toilet than give anything to anyone with as much money as he has, an...

Tim Mooney Gay Marriage Enemy Flip Flops; West Virginia Gays Speak

Tim Mooney Gay Marriage Enemy Flip Flops

This is one I haven't been following, but I thought it was interesting because Tim Mooney seems to have always been against gay marriage. And now more than a few advocates for gay marriage are questioning his motives.

Mooney is a republican strategist, he's worked in anti-gay marriage campaigns in Utah, and he's always been on record as a supporter of those who are against gay marriage.

In an odd move, he's now behind an effort to not only legalize gay...

Ryan Field Press; Steve Jobs Video; Russian Sports Minister Wants Calm

Ryan Field Press

I've been seeing chatter all over the Internet about how authors are starting their own publishing houses...and when I use the term publishing house it is for lack of a better term...and it's created a lot of questions and curiosity, which is perfectly normal. So I thought I would explain what I'm doing with Ryan Field Press, and what my immediate goals are at this point in time.

To back track, I ventured into indie publishing almost two years ago with the Chase of a Lifet...

Refused Gay Wedding at Texas Establishment

Refused gay wedding at Texas establishment

With the recent SCOTUS ruling regarding same sex marriage, a lot of new issues have been popping up, some of which can only be expected, unfortunately. Like certain businesses refusing to hold gay weddings, or bake wedding cakes for same sex marriages.

KFOX 14 reports that Monico Ramirez and Jonathan Luna had planned to book El Paso's Grace Gardens for their forthcoming reception. But as soon as the venue's staff found out Ramirez and Luna were a same...
