Friday Freebie #BookGiveaway! Signed trade paperback of ZACK: Armed & Dangerous!

More Armed & Dangerous just for you. Comment at the bottom of this post and go into a drawing for a trade paperback copy of ZACK: Armed and Dangerous!

Here’s a clean but naughty excerpt from CLAY: Armed and Dangerous

CLAY: Armed and Dangerous available now!

CLAY: Armed and Dangerous available now!

The flash of white caught Clay’s eye and he froze. His eyes narrowed as he watched the small figure at the back of the cabin. When she stood, light from inside the cabin shown on her face. She shook her head. Rubbed a palm across her forehead. Shook her head again.

A woman. A damn beautiful… and a familiar woman at that.

Clay grinned. Definitely that little spitfire of a rancher who’d come storming into his office this morning. Rylie Thorn had more than piqued his interest.

And as she bent over to peek into a hole in the wall of the cabin, Rylie’s short blond hair swung forward. Her jeans outlined each of her curves, and the T-shirt and sweater she was wearing looked so soft he wanted to touch them.

Despite years of law-enforcement training and plenty of practice in keeping emotionally and physically detached from his work, Clay couldn’t help but feel a stirring. He swallowed hard, as Rylie licked her lips and wrapped her arms around herself as she stared through what had to be a knothole opening into the cabin.

A wave of feminine laughter rolled out of the cabin. Then a woman’s voice said, “Do that again, Brad.”

Clay’s grin got a whole lot bigger. The perky little blonde was a dang Peeping Tom. Or rather, a Peeping Tomasina.

His body got more tense as he watched her standing there, seemingly frozen in place by whatever she was watching.

He could just imagine.

Damn, but he had to get his mind back on his job. He had a reason to come see the hot woman in front of him, right? At the moment he didn’t have a single clue what it was.

Don’t forget to comment for your chance a a St. Martin’s version of the trade paperback of ZACK!

Some fun for readers and writers this Thursday!

The opening line of a book can sometimes leave the biggest impression on readers, drawing them in and convincing them to keep reading. If you’re a fan of memorable intros, check out these opening lines:

“It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.” ~ Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
“Roughly translated, the slogan on Niall O’Connor’s family crest read: ‘We need all the help the gods can give us.’” ~ The Magic Knot by Helen Scott Taylor
“Mother died today.” ~ The Stranger by Albert Camus
“Scarlett O’Hara was not beautiful, but men seldom realized it when caught by her charm as the Tarleton twins were.” ~ Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell
“Lolita, light of my life, fire of my loins.” ~ Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov
“Foley had never seen a prison where you could walk right up to the fence without getting shot.” ~ Out of Sight: A Novel by Elmore Leonard
“Everything Michael just told you is true, but you have to understand our lives in its whole context for this story to make any sense.: -~ Full of Grace by Dorothea Benton Frank
“They shoot the white girl first.” ~ Paradise by Toni Morrison
“It was said she had three lovers.” ~ The Hellion Bride (Sherbrooke Series, Book 2) by Catherine Coulter
“I was born twice: first, as a baby girl, on a remarkably smogless Detroit day in January of 1960; and then again, as a teenage boy, in an emergency room near Petoskey, Michigan, in August of 1974.” ~ Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides

Here are a few favorites by author friends and other authors I know:

“I say we should stake him to an anthill and throw little pickles at him.” ~ Night Pleasures by Sherrilyn Kenyon

“A girl walks into a bar…. No, a human girl walks into a Shifter bar…” ~Pride Mates by Jennifer Ashley

“Take your hand off me, or I’ll remove it and several other of your favorite appendages.” ~Stone Maiden by Tina Gerow

“It all happened because I had to pee.” ~L.O.S.T. by RS Collins and SR Vaught

“Sprites are like stapling raw eggs to a wall.” Vampires not Invited by Cheyenne McCray

One of my favorite lines of all time from another good friend:

“It was Daniel who hatched the plot to destroy Sergeant Eason, fix my door, and run away to Mardi Gras—and that was before anyone went to prison.” ~Fat Tuesday by Susan Vaught

Wed. “What the %$!! is Next?”: Top Ten Tips on How to Marry a #Cowboy

Now for some important tips on Wednesday “What the %$!! is next?”

Many women dream of marrying a cowboy and living a life happily ever after on a ranch or farm. If you want to snag yourself a sexy rugged man, check out these 10 tips on how you can find a marry a hot cowboy!

hot-cowboys

Learn to Cook – Cowboys have tough jobs and they love to eat, so if you don’t know how to cook hearty home-style meals, you need to learn!
Learn to Ride – Same thing goes with riding a horse. If you don’t know how to yet, you’re going to have to learn as soon as possible.
Learn How To Two-step – You’ll of course also need to know how to two-step and line dance if you want to marry a cowboy.
Don’t Be Afraid to Get Dirty – Cowboys love a girl who isn’t scared to get a little muddy while working or playing outdoors.
Get a Truck – You’ll need a truck to keep up with his active lifestyle. Preferably a 4×4.
Buy a Gun – What cowboy isn’t attracted to a good-looking lady with a Winchester bolt-action rifle or a Remington shotgun?
Get Yourself a Pair of Cowgirl Boots – Every cowboy’s wife is going to need a good pair of Western boots she can wear with everything from shorts and tank tops to cute little sundresses.
Head to the Rodeo – One of the best places to meet a single cowboy is at the local rodeo or PBR event.
Go To Church – Most cowboys want a wife who is God-fearing and religious, so make sure you start attending church every Sunday. To increase your odds of meeting your future husband, why not enroll in Bible study as well!
Start Waking Up Early – Cowboys are usually up at the crack of dawn, so it’s a good idea for you to start getting used to waking up early.

Be sure and let us know how this works out for you. :)

Today’s Teaser is fromKADE of the Armed and Dangerous series!

armed-dangerous-banner

Formerly known as WILD BORDERS with Ellora’s Cave, the print rights for KADE were purchased by St. Martin’s Griffin. St. Martin’s had me change all the character names and titles for the former “Wild” series, in case you read the original and were wondering! The first three books were expanded considerably for St. Martin’s, too.

A little more history… KADE was the very first romance I wrote even though it was the 12th published. I was in love with Kade, and Kelsey was a lot like me at the time. Sometimes we put parts of ourselves into our books, and often in little bit and pieces. Kade is the kind of man who could melt a woman’s heart, and Kelsey is a woman who needs a man like Kade. And with that, I give you your Tuesday Teaser. :)

KADE: Armed and Dangerous

The sound of voices and laughter in the distance dimmed as the world narrowed, focused, and Kade’s only thoughts were of Kelsey. She stirred against him, and he sucked in his breath as her innocent movement hardened him even more.

“Kelsey,” he said against her forehead. “Do you have any idea what you do to me?” She lifted her face, and he stroked a soft wave of hair away from her eyes.

She smiled. “Tell me.”

He pressed her closer to him. “You can’t feel it?” It was too dark to tell if she blushed, but he would’ve bet she did.

Kelsey bit her lip and then said, “Um, yes. Hard to miss.”

“It certainly is.” Kade raised his eyebrows at the double meaning of her words.

She groaned. “I didn’t mean that. What am I going to do with you?”

“Whatever you want, darlin’, I’m yours.” He cupped her face with his hand, her skin soft and smooth against his palm. The thought of kissing her, holding her, loving her, stoked the fire that burned for her, that heat he knew could consume them both. “It’s been too long since I’ve tasted you.”

Her lips trembled against his thumb as he ran it over her mouth. “Not that long, cowboy.”

“Definitely too long.” Kade moved his thumb from her lips, trailing it over her chin, then along her jaw to her earlobe. She shivered and moved her mouth to his palm, the caress of her lips shooting liquid fire through his veins.

He moved his lips to her ear. “You’re like honey on my tongue.” Kelsey made a sound that could’ve been an answer, or a groan. There was no doubt she’d been hurt in the past, no doubt she was scared of becoming involved in any kind of relationship. Hell, it almost scared him how badly he wanted her. But there was one thing he did know, one thing that was absolutely clear in his mind.

He wanted her for keeps.

Kade kissed the tip of her nose. “Tell me what you want,” he murmured, his voice hoarse with all his pent-up desire for this woman. His woman.

“Kiss me,” she whispered. “Please.”

In a slow, tantalizing movement, he brushed her forehead with his mouth, then trailed kisses over the elegant arch of her eyebrow, down to the tip of her nose again. She trembled as Kade traced her lips with his tongue, teasing one corner until she moaned and parted her lips.

His tongue darted inside, lightly running along the serrated edge of her teeth before slipping deeper into her mouth. Her tongue met his in a tentative movement, as if she was afraid to show him how much she wanted him.

“You taste even better than I remembered,” he rumbled against her lips, then pulled away so that he could look at her.

She moved her palm to his face, and for an endless moment she stroked his cheek and gazed into his eyes. “I lose my head with you. I can’t afford that—I can’t afford to lose myself again.”

Kade kissed the corner of her mouth and moved to her earlobe. “If you get lost, I’ll help you find your way back.” He nipped at her lobe. “I need you, Kelsey. I’m not whole without you.”

“You don’t really know me,” she said, her voice husky. “I barely know you.”

“Give it a chance. That’s all I’m asking.” Kade brought his mouth back to Kelsey’s, kissing her with a fierceness that surprised even him.

This time when she pulled away, she said, “I’ll only be here a short time. That’s not long enough to give anything a chance.”

“Pretend we have all the time in the world.” He brought up one hand and slipped it into her silken blond hair. “Just let go, darlin’.”

“It’s so hard.” She lightly bit her lip and then added, “I’ve only been with one man. And he was the biggest mistake of my life.”

“You were with the wrong man.” Kade clenched his hand in her hair, lightly pulling on it as if that would draw her away from the bad memories and bring her into the present. “What I want you to think about is you and me. Right here, right at this moment in time.”

The moon shone through the oak leaves, shadows and silver beams of light dancing across Kelsey’s features. She gave a tentative smile and whispered, “All right.”

He cupped the back of her head, feeling entirely possessive, and brought her mouth to his. This time she took him with no hesitation, surprising him with how intensely she returned his kiss. This time it was her demanding, her needing, her wanting.

And he wanted to give her everything.

Monday On Location: In My BRAIN ~illustrated FAQ~

For fun, we’re going to travel into my head and dig deep to get answers to important questions. Let’s start out with one of the most important:

Q: What’s your favorite color?

A: It used to be pink, but I grew up, oh, a few years ago. Now purple. Definitely purple. Hence the purple office.

Q: What’s your favorite ice cream?

A: Ben and Jerry’s Cherry Garcia. Duh!

Q: What kinds of cool things did you get for your birthday?

A: A lot. One is an amazing writer’s quilt my mom made that’s embroidered with wonderful writerly sayings along with my crescent moon name and logo. My dad gave me a gorgeous fiddle. I don’t play, it’s just something special since he collects fiddles.

Q: What is the funniest birthday gift you received?

A: A totally unintentional gift. My friend Jordan ordered a bunch of wonderful writerly and fairy stuff…And this sugar skull came instead of a journal. Hahaha!  I thought it was from @TinaGerow ‘s son, but he said he wished he’d thought of it. No one new who it came from until we finally figured it out. I love it. I have both now and it looks cool in my office. :D

Today is our Sunday Guest Star!

Welcome K.T. Roberts, @ScribBLINGDIVA, to my blog. It’s great to have you here as my very first guest!

~*~

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000039_00075]

I’d like to thank Cheyenne for having me here today. In honor of this visit, I’m gifting copies of Deadly Obsessions to two lucky winners just for leaving me a comment about Zach. For anyone interested, the series is available on AMAZON. The winners will be selected at random at the end of the day and I’ll contact you for your email address via this website.

I thought I’d try something different today by posting an interview with my hero in the Kensington-Gerard Detective series.

Meet Zachary Gerard, homicide detective in the NYPD. This interview will give you some insight into his personality and why he does and says the things he does. Here’s a picture of his hunky guy.

victorWebster-Zach

I hope you’re one of the lucky winners!

How old are you?

Zach Gerard: I’m 34.

Are you married?

Zach Gerard: No, not yet. Ten years ago, my grandparents and father banded together trying to push me into marrying who they thought was the perfect woman for my career in the family law firm. I did date her for a while, but the only thing we had in common was affluent families. Mom saw right through her phoniness, but she didn’t have much control over what those three said and did. When I announced I was enrolling in the Police Academy and I wasn’t interested in defending criminals or marrying the woman they’d chosen, they said I’d never amount to anything and I’d be removed from the Will.

Did that upset you?

Zach Gerard: It upset me that they tried to control my life, but just because Pop and my dad are high profile attorneys didn’t mean I wanted any part of it. They defend these scumbags, and I put them behind bars. As for being cut from the Will? Money doesn’t buy happiness.

Are you married now?

Zach Gerard: No. Being in law enforcement, it’s hard to have a relationship with anyone other than someone in the same profession who understands the demands placed upon you.

Where do you work?

Zach Gerard: In the NYPD as a homicide detective.

So you’ve worked your way up the ladder?

Zach Gerard: I have and I don’t intend to stop there.

Is your attitude toward your goals to show your father you have made something of yourself?

Zach Gerard: I’d have to say that’s part of the reason, although I know I’ll never get his approval no matter what I do.

Are any other people living with you?

Zach Gerard: No one, and that’s probably a good thing because I have frequent visitors, if you know what I mean.

Do you have any regrets about the estranged relationship between you and your father?

Zach Gerard: My only regret is that Mom died while Dad and I were still angry at one another. I should have mended our fences for her sake, but I’m sure she would have seen through our strained interaction with one another. She’d devoted her life to me and the one thing I could have done for her, I failed. Dad and I acknowledge each other with a nod when we’re in court.

Do you have any siblings?

Zach Gerard: I’m an only child. But I’ve always thought if I did, it might have taken the pressure off me with my father.

What were three things you liked to do when you were a child?

Zach Gerard: We had a mock courtroom set up in our basement and Dad and Pop would go down there and argue their cases. I learned a lot about the law watching them in action. Knowing his legalese tactics when he’s working a case has really paid off during the times I have to testify and he’s the opposing attorney.

During the holidays, Mom would let me skip school for a day and we’d go out shopping and then stop to see the Christmas tree lights at Rockefeller Center. Those meant a lot to me.

And, I guess lastly, for my birthday, Mom would let me take all my friends to a special place, like the Bronx Zoo or Central Park for the day and we’d celebrate with a big party.

What were you afraid of when you were a child?

Zach Gerard: Undoubtedly, my father. Once I learned to pretend I was in agreement, he eased up a bit.Bottom of Form

Do you like your job?

Zach Gerard: I love my job and I’m very good at what I do.

What makes you happy now?

Zach Gerard: Being able to help the victims of a crime I’m investigating by putting the perpetrator behind bars for a long time.

What is your greatest fear?

Zach Gerard: Not being able to solve a case.

What would you change about yourself if you could?

Zach Gerard: I would practice more patience with others. I have a tendency to interrupt when they’re expressing their points of view by jumping to conclusions.

What is it that you have never told anyone?

Zach Gerard: I’m in love with my partner. She’s a hot looking woman with long red hair and a body that doesn’t quit, but she won’t give me the time of day. But I love a challenge.

What do you want?

Zach Gerard: I want to work my way up the ladder to Police Commissioner, convince my partner she should marry me, and I guess ultimately, have my father tell me he’s proud of me.

Saturday is Sexy: Five of the Sexiest Crime Solvers on TV

Join me every day for our daily theme:

Mondays On Location

Wednesday “What the %$!! is next?”
Thursday Reader/Writer Fun
Friday Freebies
Saturday is Sexy
Sunday Guest Stars

Of course today, Saturday is incredibly sexy!

There’s nothing like a sexy law enforcement officer or crime solver to get the blood stirring… Especially these five picked just for you…

Shemar Moore_Criminal Minds

Special Agent Derek Morgan/Shemar Moore (Criminal Minds)

Special Agent Derek Morgan/Shemar Moore (Criminal Minds). As a member of the Behavioral Analysis Unit, Derek Morgan’s job is to stop serial killers. Luckily, Derek can stop the bad guys wearing tight V-Neck T-Shirts that his ripped arms and muscular chest fill out nicely.

There’s much more to Derek than eye candy–his past makes it difficult for him to trust, but once you earn his trust, he is loyal to a fault. His ripped body comes from his football playing days at Northwestern University, however Derek isn’t the typical jock. Sensitive and good with kids, he is often tasked with interviewing child witness or victims.. He is also a bit of a prankster, and constantly enjoys making the team laugh in order to distract them from the horrible things they see on a day-to-day basis.

Sherlock Holmes/Jonny Lee Miller (Elementary)

Sherlock Holmes/Jonny Lee Miller (Elementary)

Sherlock Holmes/Jonny Lee Miller (Elementary). Physically, Sherlock Holmes has it all: the accent, the eyes, and the ability to turn a tweed jacket into something sexy.

After being betrayed by his ex-girlfriend, who turned out to be a criminal genius, Holmes developed a drinking problem and was sent to America to rehab with none other than the American Dr. Watson (Lucy Lu).

Clean and sober, Holmes is making a real effort to overcome his demons and use his powers of deduction to keep the public safe. Brilliant, but a little rough around the edges, Sherlock Holmes has plenty to offer the girl willing to heal his broken heart and teach him learn to trust again.

Special Agent Seeley Booth/David Boreanaz (Bones)

Special Agent Seeley Booth/David Boreanaz (Bones)

Special Agent Seeley Booth/David Boreanaz (Bones). Other than the obvious physical features, the sexiest thing about Seeley is his confidence. Charming and friendly, Booth even manages to make his “cocky” belt buckle seem sexy.

This confident exterior hides a surprisingly tender man who enjoys spending time playing with his young children. After growing up in a broken home, Booth has developed a strong sense of family and was instrumental in repairing the relationship between his partner Temperance Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and her criminal father Max (Ryan O’Neal).

Despite this soft interior, Booth is undeniably confident about his sexuality, leading many a girl to wonder exactly who this complex man really is.

Special Agent Tony DiNozzo/Michael Weatherly, (NCIS)

Special Agent Tony DiNozzo/Michael Weatherly, (NCIS)

Special Agent Tony DiNozzo/Michael Weatherly, (NCIS). We wouldn’t kick him out of bed, but Tony’s real charm lies in his lighthearted sense humor, a trait that he sorely needs in a profession dealing with murderers.

Self-deprecating and almost always cheerful, DiNozzo is playful with the entire team and has even managed to make the stoic Gibbs (Mark Harmon) smile on occasion.

Although he began the series as an objectifying misogynist, we have slowly seen Tony develop into a man capable of complex feelings and even love. Much of his humor is based around movies, so be prepared to curl up next to this hottie on the couch and pop in a DVD.

Patrick Jane/Simon Baker, (The Mentalist)

Patrick Jane/Simon Baker, (The Mentalist)

Patrick Jane/Simon Baker, (The Mentalist). Jane’s bright smile and gorgeous blue eyes have allowed him to fool people his whole life, although after the death of his wife and daughter and subsequent nervous breakdown, Jane appears to have shifted to using his powers for good.

Although he often shows no empathy for victims or suspects, Jane’s true emotions show when he interacts with children; with kids, he shows the compassion and sympathy that is often missing in his interactions with adults.

Slowly recovering from his family’s death, Jane has recently developed a budding romance. His quick intelligence and deductive skills rival those of Sherlock Holmes.

Now, if only we could get them to meet….

I have two heartthrob favorites on this list–Michael and Shemar. Who are your favorite crime solvers on today’s Sexy Saturday?
