For Such A Time As This
Like many of you, I spent last night watching the presidential debate.
If you looked closely—and I mean REALLY closely—you saw what I saw. Something only discerned with spiritual eyes.
I saw the serpent slithering around on stage, hissing, laughing, and taunting.
That, my friends, is a call for us to step forward, prepared to fight. We cannot let the enemy win.
Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, a spear, and a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have taunted.” -1 Samuel 17:45
Please retweet: We come at the enemy in the name of the LORD of hosts. #ForSuchATimeAsThis
For Such A Time As This – When?
Something has to be done, and brothers and sisters, the time is now.
Almighty and Sovereign God has placed us where we are in time for a reason.
If we fail in our mission, it’s all on us. Not just for now, but for the future. Our action—or lack of it—will determine the future for our children and grandchildren. It will determine the future of a country founded on the freedom Christ bought for us on the cross. A freedom our fathers and grandfathers fought for and sought to defend.
We were put here at this very moment for such a time as this.
“For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place and you and your father’s house will perish. And who knows whether you have not attained royalty for such a time as this?” -Esther 4:14

For Such A Time As This – Who?
Let’s get this straight. It’s not about the candidates. It’s not about us.
It always has been and always will be about Him.
When we take a stand, it’s as soldiers of the cross.
This is no ordinary earthly Commander-in-Chief we follow. He is Almighty God, Creator and Sustainer of all that is, Sovereign, All-Powerful, All-Knowing, Ever-Present, our King and Deliverer, the Lion of Judah. He reigns! He is in control!
Many of the Psalms use the phrase “Arise, oh, Lord.” It was an ancient battle cry God’s people used, and now is certainly an appropriate time for us to use it again.
May God arise, may His enemies be scattered;
may His foes flee before Him.
May You blow them away like smoke—
as wax melts before the fire,
may the wicked perish before God.
But may the righteous be glad
and rejoice before God;
may they be happy and joyful. -Psalm 68:1-3

For Such A Time – What?
So what can we do?
1. Pray!
One of the most powerful spiritual weapons at our disposal is prayer. It is crucial communication with our Commander-in-Chief in the war room of life.
We live in the midst of a war zone. This is a spiritual battle we’re facing, and without prayer we are doomed. Let’s make it our highest priority. If we expect Him to hear us and heal our land it takes all of these : humility, seeking God, and repentance (2 Chronicles 7:14).
The mess we’re in didn’t happen overnight, and either directly or indirectly, we’re all guilty and responsible. Admit that before Him. Plead for His mercy.
Pray for the candidates. Pray for Esthers and Daniels who give godly advice. Pray for that advice to be heeded by those in power.
This is more than a spiritual pep rally I’m calling us to. It’s a solemn assembly. A time of weeping and mourning and crying out to God. Let the shofar sound!
Prayer changes things! It brings God near!
The Lord is near to all who call on Him,
to all who call on Him in truth. -Psalm 145:18
Please retweet: The Lord is near to all who call on Him in truth. #Pray #ForSuchATimeAsThis

2. Armor up!
God, in His great wisdom, gives us spiritual armor to appropriate. It’s up to us to put it on. That’s the only way we can be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. The only way we can take a stand against the devil and his schemes. The only way to tear down strongholds.
Armor up! Pick up and put on:
the helmet of salvation
the shield of faith
the breastplate of righteousness
the belt of truth
the footwear ready with the gospel of peace
the Sword of the Spirit, God’s Word
Satan has gained much ground in the past few years. As is always the case, if we give him an inch, he’ll take a mile. He’s proved that! It’s time to tear down the strongholds he and his minions have built. That takes the divine power of our spiritual weapons.
On our own, we’re no match for the enemy. But with God, he’s no match for us!
For though we live in the flesh, we do not wage war according to the flesh. The weapons of our warfare are not the weapons of the world. Instead, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. -2 Corinthians 10:4
Please retweet: Our spiritual weapons have #DivinePower to #DemolishStrongholds #ForSuchATimeAsThis

3. Speak up!
Each of us have a God-given sphere of influence. Unfortunately, most of the time we’re too timid to speak up. We don’t want to be labeled by enemy forces as narrow-minded, bigoted, hate-filled, and all the other nasty names going around.
Get this: it’s time for us to care more about what God thinks of us than what the world thinks and says.
We are watchmen, and like it or not, it’s our job to warn others (Ezekiel 3:17-19).
Let’s use our voice, our influence, to be the salt and light we are called to be (Matthew 5:13-16), rather than dig a hole and crawl into the darkness to hide. (That’s what snakes and cowards do, by the way.)
Let’s build up and bolster, edify and encourage, rather than mumble-grumble-groan, trash-talk and tear down (Ephesians 4:29).
Let’s speak truth in the midst of Satan’s lies.
Writer friends, this next part is for you. The pen IS indeed mightier than the sword. That’s why the Solzhenitsyn’s and Bonhoeffer’s are always silenced first. God gave you your pen for a reason. He gifted you with the ability to clearly speak truth through that pen. Use it for Him for such a time as this!
Retweet: The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing….

REMEMBER: For Such A Time As This
Brothers and sisters, never in our lifetime have we faced such a critical time.
In just over 40 days, the future of our country will be determined.
Will you pledge to fast and pray, to stand in the gap with me for our God-given freedoms, our families, and our country? Will you take your place in this spiritual battle? Will you use God’s divine power to help demolish strongholds? Will you speak up and speak truth? Will you warn? Will you encourage?
In the Bible, the concept of 40 days plays a significant role and denotes a time of testing and trial. (See Genesis 7:12; Exodus 34:28; Deuteronomy 9:25; Numbers 13:25; 1 Kings 19:8; 1 Samuel 17:16; Jonah 3:4; Matthew 4:2; Acts 1:3.) Whether or not we’re victorious for the Lord depends on how we handle these upcoming 40 days.
Please.
Do what you can.
After all, we were put in this place at this very moment for such a time as this.
Please retweet: #40Days #ForSuchATimeAsThis #Pray Fast. Stand in the Gap. Armor up. Speak up.

16 Easy Ways Valuable Readers Help Authors
Let me just start off with the truth. Readers are valuable to authors. In fact, they’re indispensable. Without readers, an author doesn’t stand a chance.
So a big heartfelt “Thank you!” to all you readers of my books. I literally couldn’t do it without you!
But here’s another truth. There is no way an author can let the big world out there know about her books all by herself. Every author is responsible not only for conceiving the idea for a book, but writing the story, polishing it, getting it published, and then doing all she can to promote it. A daunting task indeed!
Thankfully, an author’s valuable readers play a much bigger part than only reading our books (as if that were a small thing…) I feel so blessed to have a small army that helps me share books. The Miller’s Creek Main Street Team helps me out so much, and words can’t begin to express my gratitude!
Below I’ve listed several ways that readers help authors. Hope the post is helpful to you, whether you’re an author or a reader!

20 Easy Ways For Readers to Help Authors
Write reviews for places like a personal blog, Facebook, Amazon, Goodreads, and Barnes & Noble. It doesn’t have to be long or fancy. Something as simple as “I liked this book” or “Here’s why I enjoyed this book” and then listing your favorite things about the story. Why are reviews important? Potential readers need to know why they might enjoy a particular book. How do they know this? By reading other readers’ reviews!
Add the book to your Goodreads shelf. This also helps potential readers find new books, because adding it to your shelf serves as a sort of recommendation.
While reading the book, post tidbits about the book on your social media channels.
Share the author’s website or the book page on his or her website. (Here’s mine: http://www.catbryant.com/books/ ;) )
Suggest the book to your book club and/or library. Many books have group discussion questions available inside the book. And authors are usually more than happy to do a conference or Skype call with readers’ groups
If you’re a blogger, you can give your copy of the book away on your blog or host the author in a guest post or interview. Many authors do blog tours for the release of a new book, so offer to host the author on her tour.
Lend your copy of the book to friends or give it to your church or public library (AFTER you finish reading it of course!). Better yet, buy a copy for your library. :)
Discuss the book in any Goodreads or Facebook groups that you are a part of. For that matter, discuss it with friends face-to-face. Word of mouth is ALWAYS the best way to get the word out about a book or author you enjoy.
If the author lives near you or is going to be in the area, invite them to speak to your reading group or civic/church organization. I’ve even had readers help me coordinate book signings!
Gift the book to friends and family members for Christmas, birthdays, Mother’s Day, or just because. (Amazon makes this extremely easy to do with their “Give As A Gift” button.) Many authors also have autographed bookplates you can request to attach to the books.

Offer to distribute bookmarks and other free promotional materials the author may have.
Take the book along on trips to the doctor or sporting events (or any place where you have to wait). Carry along extra bookmarks just in case…
Create a Pinterest board for your favorite books and authors. Pin the book cover on Pinterest with a link to the book on Amazon or the author’s website.
Take a creative picture of yourself with the book and post it on Facebook, your blog, Twitter, etc.
Leave the book in a waiting room for others to enjoy as they wait.
Donate books to prison ministries such as Prison Book Project. By far my coolest book story is about a female inmate who contacted me to let know that Texas Roads (Free for Amazon Kindle and B&N Nook)had led her to a relationship with Christ and she had started a Bible study group with some fellow inmates. That is pure gold to this author’s heart!

About the Book “Baby, Baby”
A sweet, colorful board book that appeals to a baby’s interest in looking at other babies
Babies enjoy books, looking at other babies, and their own flowering abilities. This short rhyming poem combines all three in a sweet and happy way, while introducing babies to God’s love for them. The simple words are paired with colorful images of babies engaging in familiar activities, allowing the book to be used as an introductory concept book as well. And it ends with a reminder that Baby is always loved by God.

“Baby, Baby!” – My Review
This adorable mirror book expounds all the wonder that babies are, from giggles and wiggles to being loved by God. Any book that teaches children from a young age that they are loved by their Creator gets nothing but highest praise from me.
The illustrations in the book are perfect for little ones, and we all know how drawn to faces babies can be. The book is sure to capture their interest with the pictures and the rhyming words. And the mirror? Well, let’s just say that it reinforces the message of the book perfectly!
“I have loved you with an everlasting love.” -Jeremiah 31:3b (NKJV)
I highly recommend this sturdy and childproof book for the babies in your life!

LifeSword Bible Studies & Devotionals
THE FRAGRANCE OF CRUSHED VIOLETS

The Fragrance of Crushed Violets coordinates with the forgiveness theme of the Miller’s Creek novel, A Bridge Unbroken. This Bible study is appropriate for either group or individual study.
How can we break the chains of unforgiveness?
What do we do when someone seems determined to bring us down through an attack? How do we deal with meaningless acts of destruction and death, especially when the offender shows no remorse?
In short, how do we move past the hurt and anger to a place of forgiveness?
The Fragrance of Crushed Violets examines relevant scriptures for the purpose of building a Biblical understanding of:
What forgiveness is and what it isn’t
God’s role in the process of forgiveness
What Jesus did at the cross for each of us
Our mandate to forgive as we’ve been forgiven
What gets in the way of forgiving others
How to truly forgive
If you’re struggling to forgive, this book, and especially God’s Word, can help.
“This was a very heart-felt book about forgiveness. It’s about forgiving what is inexcusable. This caused me to pray and forgive decades-old grudges.” –Linda R. | Amazon Review

BELIEVE & KNOW

and the truth will set you free.”.
John 8:32 (NASB)
Believe and Know coordinates with the search for truth them of the Miller’s Creek novel, Crossroads. This Bible study is appropriate for either individual or group study.
How can we reach those who say they search for truth, but deny God’s existence?
Each human being, on their journey and search for truth, must at some point reflect on their life and answer important questions. Why am I here? Is there life beyond life as I now know it? How did the universe and man come into existence, and how does the answer affect me?
In addition, we must also carefully consider the myriad of avenues open before us. The wrong choice will be detrimental to our current life as well as the life to come.
This book addresses the hard questions and decisions that accompany the search for truth. It was written with three types of readers in mind: those who struggle with faith, many times because of skewed perceptions or even anger; those who profess faith in the unseen, but find it difficult to live out; and finally those whose faith is strong, but who need information to effectively answer the arguments and questions of others. This Bible study examines these topics and more:
The Danger of Unbelief
Proof of Intelligent Design
The Problem of Evil
Proof of Jesus as God
Proof of God’s Love for Mankind
God’s Plan for Us to Believe and Know
Faith Matters
There is such a thing as absolute truth, and it is well within your reach.
“I would encourage you to get and read this book. Study it. Use it to help you reach out to those who don’t know the Lord.” -Sandra S. | Amazon Review

LIFE LESSONS FROM MY GARDEN

Life Lessons From My Garden is a 31-day devotional journey about our lives as God’s garden.
There are many analogies which can be made between gardens and our lives, making this book one for gardeners and non-gardeners alike.
Much of God’s Word references gardens. From the garden of Eden to the garden of Gethsemane–from the garden of the tomb to the garden described in Revelation–gardens are surely important to God.
But even more important to our Creator is the work He does in the gardens of individual lives. Surely the human heart and soul is where He does His best work, as He turns chaos and barrenness into beauty and fruitfulness.
During His earthly ministry, Jesus often referenced seeds, soil, sowing, and other agricultural topics, all of which carry rich meaning in the context of human lives.
So there is much for us to learn from gardening as revealed in God’s Word. These life lessons can make all the difference–not only in how we live our lives–but also in our productivity and fruitfulness as believers.
Our Master Gardener will take our humble and submitted lives and turn them into a bountiful harvest for His Kingdom.
Join us on this 31-day devotional journey as we use the basics of gardening to better understand God’s masterful work in our lives.
“And those are the ones on whom seed was sown on the good soil; and they hear the word and accept it and bear fruit, thirty, sixty, and a hundredfold.” -Mark 4:20

MY REVIEW
My two beautiful grandchildren just happened to be spending some time at Nana and Papa’s house when I received a copy of “Night Night, Farm” for review.
I fell in love with just a quick scan of the book. The text was captivating with all the farm animals. The illustrations were gorgeous and compelling. And the message that God is the Creator of all rang through loud and clear.
But rather than just rely on my grown-up reaction, I decided to put the book to the real test. My grandkids.
First, I explained that I had received the book for free for my honest thoughts about the story. Then I said it would be very helpful to get their take on the book for my review. I read the story to them from cover to cover, allowing them to get the book’s full impact by seeing the illustrations.
I figured my three-year-old granddaughter would love it, since the book seems to fall more into her age category. I wasn’t sure about my six-year-old grandson.
They both loved it! In fact, my grandson said, “Keep that book for us to read when we come to visit!”
So this book not only gets five stars from me, but fifteen stars from the three of us combined! Highly recommend this one for the little ones in your life.

So Sorry For Going MIA
Hi everyone! To say I’ve missed you is a huge understatement!!!
For those who haven’t heard the now-rather-old news, Hubby and I were able to sell our house in New Mexico earlier this year. After a year and a half on the market, we decided to go the For Sale By Owner route, ended up with multiple offers, closed on the house in April, moved across four states (yes, we tackled that ourselves…it took two trips, but we saved money!), launched our own house search, bought a foreclosure, and started the needed renovations immediately.
We were able to move our stuff out of storage at the end of July, but we are still in reno mode as evidenced by this picture to the left of my writing desk.
Hubby landed a job shortly after we bought the house, which was a total God-thing. But that has left me to deal with all the reno stuff while he is at work, which hopefully explains my extended absence.
I deal with trades and perform all I can do on my own, then once Trav arrives home in the late afternoon/evening, we tackle the projects that require two sets of hands.
Other than the building project in the photo, which will be a pantry and second bath, our other projects are smaller in scope. That’s a good thing, considering that the electrical, plumbing, and foundation all had to be completely re-done on our 1946 country cottage. It seems that each new fixer upper we take on grows in scope and stretches our abilities. That has certainly been true with this house.
Anyway, the Lord has used this time to build my patience, teach me about myself and Him, and strengthen our marriage. There’s absolutely no way we could have gone through the past few months without His constant presence, help, and encouragement, and I’m so grateful that I belong to Him. Doesn’t knowing that truth bring such peace, joy, and hope? It sure does to me!
I hope to be less MIA in the coming weeks and months, though I know that there will be times that the work on the house keeps me from spending time online. And yes, I still plan on finishing up Bella’s and Clay’s story, Still I Will Follow. That’s another way the Lord has used this time…to make me dig deeper into the truth of our freedom in Christ and how that results in growing us as His disciples. Please continue to pray that His Spirit will guide me in writing the story and provide the time and energy to get it done.
Thank you all for your prayers, continued patience, and well wishes. I’m so blessed to have you in my life. I pray for you often and always remember you with great joy.
God’s richest blessings to you and yours,
P.S. At some point in the future I hope to share before and after pics with you so you can enjoy the fruit of our labors with us. And would any of you be interested in a post about the For Sale By Owner process? If so, just drop me a line via the Contact tab to let me know.

More Important Than Liberty
Though the seventh Miller’s Creek novel Still I Will Follow has been put on hold as hubby and I get our new home ready to inhabit, my heart is still very much intuned to the concept of Christian liberty.
So I hope you’ll bear with me as I express my thoughts in devotional form to hopefully better wrap my brain around the freedom that is ours in Christ.
This morning, the Lord led me to 1 Corinthians 8 where Paul expounds on the concept of liberty to the church at Corinth. This passage helped me realize once more that even the freedom we enjoy as Christ-followers pales in comparison and must take a secondary position to something even more important.
Love.
In this devotional I hope to encourage all of us to use our God-given liberty in love.
#Devotional post on something more important than our Christian #freedom. Read it here:

More Important Than Liberty
As Americans there is probably nothing we hold so dear as our liberty. This freedom is made even more precious against the backdrop of increasing persecution of Christians worldwide and our liberties being more and more infringed upon here in the US.
But in studying God’s Word we should come to the place of realizing that there is something even more important than freedom.
Consider these verses:
Now about food sacrificed to idols: We know that we all possess knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up. -1 Corinthians 8:1
Be careful, however, that the exercise of your freedom does not become a stumbling block to the weak. -1 Corinthians 8:9
So this weak brother, for whom Christ died, is destroyed by your knowledge. When you sin against your brothers in this way and wound their weak consciences, you sin against Christ. Therefore, if what I eat causes my brother to fall into sin, I will never eat meat again, so that I will not cause him to fall. -1 Corinthians 8:11-13
Love Surpasses Liberty
Christ died to set us free. Surely there is no greater and truer freedom than that.
“So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.” -John 8:36
But, if in our liberty we fail to restrain ourselves in relation to others, we have missed the mark and the standard of Christ.
Just a few chapters later in the book of 1 Corinthians, we find what is known as the “love” chapter of the Bible. Here are just a few verses from that chapter to remind us of the superiority of love in our Christian journey.
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I am nothing. -1 Corinthians 13:1-3
Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. -1 Corinthians 13: 8
And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. -1 Corinthians 13:13
Liberty Is Limited By Love
Because of Christ’s death on the cross, chains have been broken and our freedom is ensured. In Paul’s day, animals were often sacrificed to idols, and this was a rampant practice in Corinth.
Some believers were so strong in their faith and knowledge that they realized there was no such thing as an idol. These little-g gods were nothing but the imaginations of men’s sin-marred minds. Therefore, eating the meat meant nothing.
But others, who were weaker in their faith, had a moral objection to eating this meat.
The lesson here for us is that though we may be stronger in our faith–though we may have a better knowledge and understanding of what it means to be free in Christ–we must always keep in mind that our freedom can and does make other believers stumble in their faith.
Simply put, we must learn not to abuse our liberty by not considering those around us.
Not Limiting Our Liberty Is Sin
This is where we learn the tough lesson of what not restraining the exercise of our Christian freedom is. The Bible calls it sin.
And I am guilty.
Lord Jesus, I confess my sinfulness before You as one who doesn’t always stop to consider my ways. I thank You so much for the freedom You give each and every one who places their trust in You. Lord, help us to always consider how the exercise of our freedom affects those around us. May we not become a stumbling block, but rather a stepping stone, so that others may find their way to the liberty our life in You brings. In Your precious name we pray. Amen.

My Review of the ESV Family Devotional Bible
As a mom whose baby chicks have long since flown from the nest, there is nothing more precious than memories of family devotions. The ESV Family Devotional Bible gives families all they need to commit to a time of family devotions.
I personally believe the ESV translation of the Bible to be one of the most accurate, which is an added bonus to this Bible in my opinion.
With 130 devotions, a family can easily have material for two or three devotionals each week. What I particularly like about this is that it will take a family through the entire Bible in a year. To me, this is so important. Our kids need the cohesiveness of the gospel story rather than several disjointed stories that seem to bear no connection to one another. That is one of the underlying spiritual lessons of the Christmas novella I wrote, entitled Pieces On Earth.
And the illustrations in this Bible are so well done, reminding me very much of some of the Sunday School art from my childhood.
Another thing I love about this Bible are the family discussion questions and the key verse for each devotional. The key verse could easily be turned into a memory verse for the entire family to learn together.
If there’s a negative about the ESV Family Devotional Bible, for me that would be that the devotional is really just a re-telling of the stories in various Bible passages. While there is definitely nothing wrong with that, I think parents would be wise to connect each story with the overall message of redemption.
All things considered, I highly recommend the ESV Family Devotional Bible as a wonderful resource for those with children.

Here’s the Controversial Truth: Hell is Actually Real
Like it or not, hell is a reality, a controversial truth many reject.
And honestly, even Christians struggle with the concept of hell. It makes us very uncomfortable. We don’t like the idea of hell or its implications.
But here’s another controversial truth: reality isn’t confined to what we like or find desirable.
If that was true, death, disease, hunger, war, and a whole host of other world negatives could be eradicated by simply choosing not to believe they exist.
In His earthly ministry, Jesus had much more to say about hell than heaven.
It’s interesting to me that few people, if any, choose to disavow some form or notion of heaven. Why? Probably because people like the idea of heaven.
Sadly, one of the many “isms” of our day is universalism, the belief that all of us are going to the same place and that there are many ways to that place. This belief is a lie straight from the enemy of our eternal souls.
That lie is in sharp contrast to the words of Jesus, who said He was the way, the path was narrow, and only a few would find the narrow road (John 14:6; Matthew 7:13-14).
Opponents to the Christian faith are quick to point out that a loving God surely wouldn’t condemn someone to a place of eternal torture. They quickly add that if God would do that, then He’s not a God in which they choose to believe.
This thinking comes from a misunderstanding of both God and hell. In this post I hope to share what the Bible says about God and hell. It’s my prayer that the Lord will use this post in the lives of unbelievers to spark consideration of the reality of hell so they can choose the opposite. I also pray He’ll use this post in the lives of believers, myself included, to prepare us to better explain hell to those with questions and doubts.
Let’s start at the very beginning…
Join the discussion: Is hell real? What is hell? More here:

CONTROVERSIAL TRUTH: There’s Only One God
It really shouldn’t be controversial at all.
We only have to look at the complexity and order of our planet and its inhabitants to recognize there must be a Supreme Being who designed and created us. It’s scientific fact that if only one small part of our planet were off by the smallest of fractions, there would be no life.
In the account of creation, the Bible reveals how God created the universe and earth along with plant, animal, and human life. Everything He made was good. Then He handed over the keys to mankind, along with a warning. One taste of the forbidden fruit would bring death. (See Genesis 1-2.)
Then another created being, an angel of heaven, rebelled and was thrown to earth. This evil being, also known as Lucifer or Satan, deceived Eve, who ate the fruit and had her husband eat it also. From that moment, sin and rebellion infected humanity, and with it came the death God promised, in both the spiritual and physical sense. (See Genesis 3, Ezekiel 28, and Isaiah 14.)
Thankfully, God had a plan for the redemption of mankind, the sacrifice of His perfect Son to atone for human sin. But since God created people with the capacity to reason and choose, there are two very different outcomes for those who choose to submit to Him and those who reject Him.
When we choose to place our trust in God, He begins His work inside us which leads us to His holiness and righteousness (2 Corinthians 5:21; Philippians 1:6). Apart from Him, humans are incapable of ever reaching Him on their own merit, works, or striving.
CONTROVERSIAL TRUTH: God Is Good
The God who created us is good and perfect. He is just and completely right. He desires good for us.
I get that it’s really easy to look at the evil around us and blame God. But when we make that choice, we pridefully set ourselves up against our Almighty Sovereign.
In truth, evil exists because of man’s propensity to sin and the enemy’s efforts to win us to his side of this spiritual battle.
God, in His goodness, gives us the choice to submit to Him or not. But with that choice also comes the choice of an eternal destination–either one that most would willingly and gladly accept or one that many refuse to even consider.
CONTROVERSIAL TRUTH: Hell is Real
Because God is good, there exists a place that is good. It’s a place He has promised to those who trust Him and submit to Him. That place is heaven–life forever in His Presence.
The reverse is also a reality.
That reality is a place without even a trace of God’s goodness. Imagine the most evil place you can think of, filled with the most evil people and spiritual beings, and with the most heinous of acts and atrocities.
No beauty. No goodness. No love. No kindness. No comfort. A place forever cut off from our Creator. Eternal separation from the goodness of God.
That is the reality of hell.
I heard a pastor once say that sin/rebellion is mankind’s way of saying to God, “Leave me alone.” Hell is where He will do just that. For all eternity (2 Thessalonians 1:9).
CONTROVERSIAL TRUTH: There’s Still Time
The purpose of this post isn’t to scare anyone. But honestly, it should scare us and scare us into the arms of the One who loves us first and best.
Our Lord is a good God who loves us more than we can fully comprehend. He proved it by coming to earth in human flesh to die in our place (John 3:16).
Because He died for us and rose again, triumphant over both sin and death (1 Corinthians 15:55), we can experience the eternal life that He gives. When we commit our lives to Him, He moves in and transforms us from the inside out.
Then He leads us from this earthly life to the spiritual realm of His kingdom, a place where there is no death, no evil, no darkness, no sorrow, no tears.
But it’s a choice each and everyone of us must make for ourselves.
So what will it be? Eternal bliss in the Lord’s loving Presence or eternal death forever separated from our good Creator God? That’s a question with which each one of us must grapple.
If you would like to know more about turning your life over to God, I implore you to read this post. Today, at this very moment, there is still time. Please don’t delay.
Digging Deeper: If you’d like to further investigate the reality of hell, read the following passages: Romans 6:23; Revelation 14:11; Revelation 20:13-15; Revelation 21:8; Matthew 10:28; Matthew 13:42; Matthew 13:50; Matthew 25:41; Matthew 25:46; Psalm 9:17; Mark 9:43; Jude 1:7; Proverbs 15:24; Ezekiel 18:20; Luke 16:24.
