We ended up creating an entirely new character that bore shades of these two fantastic men -- Dr. Marvelry -- and we wrote one story exploring him and his universe. When we realized how much we liked writing the first story, we decided to write a whole book about Dr. Marvelry and his strange shop. (less)

‘Carol for a Haunted Man’ now available!

[image error]I’m happy to announce (somewhat belatedly) that my new book co-written with J. Sullivan is now available. Carol for a Haunted Man is the tale of a daunted man’s will to succeed in the face of despair. It is a novella inspired by, and in homage to, the Christmas stories of Charles Dickens. Included with the novella are stories from each of our three other books.

Beautiful, surprising and poignant prose — not unexpected from the Twilight Zone mastermind.

“I suffered nightmares in which I awoke to find myself limbless and mute, screaming soundlessly in a room that did not exist beyond the crooked oblong sketched out by the moonlight.”
John Brhel, Other Voices, Other Tombs

“The only thing worth writing about is people. People. Human beings. Men and women whose individuality must be created, line by line, insight by insight. If you do not do it, the story is a failure. [...] There is no nobler chore in the universe than holding up the mirror of reality and turning it slightly, so we have a new and different perception of the commonplace, the everyday, the 'normal', the obvious. People are reflected in the glass. The fantasy situation into which you thrust them is the mirror itself. And what we are shown should illuminate and alter our perception of the world around us. Failing that, you have failed totally.”
Harlan Ellison
