Two quotes

Recently I started watching Downton Abby. I really love it.

Yesterday's episode delivered these two lines, which I immediately wrote down:

"No one hits the bulls-eye with the first arrow."

and

"What would be the point of living if we didn't let life change us?"

They reminded me of my roller-coaster.

Monday Morning (er, afternoon, sorry) Warm-Up:

Your turn: Share a quote that makes you think and feel hopeful.

I like the roller-coaster

This week has been a wild roller-coaster filled with way ups and way downs.

Way, way up.

And way, way down.

Moments of joy, and moments of tears.

Life is funny.

Life is frustrating.

Life will break your heart.

But in time, it will mend it, too.

Thanks, Grandma.

2 quick things :-)

1. If you're doing JoNoWriMo+1.5, today is an official check-in day. Please go HERE to check in! Thanks!

2. Did you know my cat Fred has a Tumblr? It's called, "Things We Put on Fred." I know. We've definitely overstepped some line of sanity. Oh well! Here is a preview of today's entry:

We call it "Double-0-Fred." Don't worry. He purred like mad. :-)

Not only do we love her, but we like her, too.

This weekend, my sister and I hosted a surprise birthday for my mom. People came from near and far.

Here's my sweet cousin, who drove from Rhode Island with my aunt and uncle:

As usual, we made WAY too much food. You can see everything on the table untouched as everyone squeezed onto the screened-in porch to enjoy the unusually warm and sunny fall day.

This is my mom with her dear friend Laura, who is over 90! Laura and her husband used to own a lovely boutique and my mom worked there for many years.

This picture shows my dad and his college roommate and other friends my parents have known since high school.

Here's my mom chatting with a mix of relatives and long-time friends. This is what she looked like all day. Chatting happily in small circles. And laughing laughing laughing.

When my sister was getting ready for the party, she asked my 6 y-o nephew to help her make a sign for our mom with his magnetic letters. Instead of writing "We love you" he insisted that it should say this:

Everyone thought this was hysterical.

And then my mom told us that when she applied to college, her parents had to write a letter of support. They ended the letter by saying, "Not only do we love our daughter very much, but we like her, too."

Grammy, we love and like you very much as well. Sooooooo much.

xoxo

What happened?

Wasn't this just yesterday?

Now my tiny dear boy is getting ready for his first middle school dance! And he's almost taller than I am. And I don't recognize his voice anymore. And... and...

*sniff*

I know.

It had to happen.

And honestly, it just gets better.

But sometimes I miss that small hand clasping mine, begging me to read to him.

I even miss those wretched day-long Monopoly-athons.

Hug 'em while you got 'em, friends. They sure do grow up fast.

The Benefits of the Long and Winding Road

Today I am a guest blogger over at "Adventures in YA & Children's Publishing" for their WOW Wednesday feature!

My entry is called:

"Why the Long and Winding Road Isn't Such a Bad Thing After All"

It is for all you writers out there wondering if and when "the call" will ever happen to you. (Answer to first part: Yes; Answer to second part: You'll have to keep walking and wandering and staying on the road to find out—but it CAN be fun!)

Click HERE to take a look.

Keep on trucking, friends! I believe in you!
