1 Week Until Brooklyn Book Festival


As we previously announced, the Dorothy Parker Society will be at Brooklyn Book Festival 2013, at Booth #158 with author Jamie Brenner. It is Sunday, Sept. 22, 10 AM to 6 PM.


There will be giveaways, raffles, and books for sale. Come on out to Borough Hall in Brooklyn. There will be more than 40,000 booklovers in attendance, with a day of events for all.

There will be two Algonquin Round Table Walking Tours, on Saturday, Sept. 28, and Saturday, Oct. 26.

The Algonquin Round Table comes alive in the only New York walking tour devoted to the famed literary group. The 2-hour walk celebrates Dorothy Parker, Robert Benchley, George S. Kaufman, Harpo Marx, Edna Ferber, Franklin P. Adams, Heywood Broun, Harold Ross, Robert Sherwood and the rest of the Vicious Circle.

Remember 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington

Audio Archive Moves to SoundCloud, Social Networking Now Possible


The great audio file migration is complete! I am pleased to announce that the 30 Dorothy Parker audio files have been transferred to SoundCloud, “the world’s leading social sound platform.” The backstory is that most of the files were digitized in 1999 using RealMedia, a format that’s fallen by the wayside in the past 14 years. Some of the others were MP3 files.


But the problem was playing them, as well as streaming to smart phones and tablets. All of these issues have been resolved.

Tattoo Art Gallery Inspired by Dorothy Parker

I’ve wanted to add a gallery of Dorothy Parker-theme tattoos for awhile. She famously got a tiny blue star inked on the inside of her bicep, sometime in the 1930s in the Village. The tattoo inspired a book (wrongly putting the tattoo on her elbow, which would hurt like hell) and seems to have sent many a Parker fan to the tattoo parlors of the world.
