Do Aliens Walk Among Us? (Spoiler Alert)

Spoiler Alert: Do Aliens Walk Among Us? With my third novel coming back-to-print this month, I thought, 'What better time to share the story behind the story?' What better time to share what gave me the idea for this suspense thriller? The following story, however, reveals a royal secret to my conspiracy thriller. 

Liz

In April of 2000 I was editing my second novel, Back to Salem, and Façades was being released later that year. That spring I attended a writers' conference in Colorado Springs. My main goal at the conference was to pitch Façades to a movie producer. This producer was giving a talk on how to pitch novels to the movie industry, so I was particularly interested in attending his workshop.

Serendipity

I'm sure you can imagine my disappointment when the presentation I attended before the producer's workshop ran long. I rushed down the hallway to reach the workshop before it began, barely squeezing through the front door of the conference room as it was being closed. The room was packed, and people were starting to stand along the walls in the rear. I noticed an empty chair close to the front and halfway down a row.

A woman with long dark hair sat beside the empty chair. I caught her attention and pointed to the seat beside her. "Is anyone sitting there?"

She smiled, "No."

I squeezed past a few people and was just about in front of the woman when I glanced at her, and she held my gaze. Her eyes shifted a bit and appeared as if she looked at my neckline. I moved past her and sat. I was thrilled that I had made it in time and still managed to get a decent seat.

The speaker immediately began and about five minutes into his speech there was a blaring noise. It was a fire alarm.

'Crap!' I thought. This was the presentation I was interested in the most. We all gathered our possessions and made our way outside of the Broadmoor Hotel that chilly spring day.

As I walked outside, the woman I sat beside sauntered near me and started to talk. She introduced herself as Liz. We hit it off immediately. The time flew, and I was even a bit disappointed when the alarm stopped, and we all returned to the conference room, where the producer started his presentation again.

Synchronicity

When the session ended, and people headed off to their next presentation of interest, Liz asked if I wanted to grab coffee. The next set of presentations held little interest for me. "Sure. Coffee sounds perfect!"

We got our beverages and found a quiet place to talk. Unexpectedly, Liz's demeanor changed, and she became serious. "I don't know where you are with this–but I'm told I should tell you," she said.

I looked around, wondering 'Who told her?' We were sitting alone. "Tell me what?" I asked.

Liz took a deep breath. "When you first came into the conference room and passed in front of me, I looked into your eyes. . . Then I was drawn to your pendant." She stopped as her eyes glanced at the ankh pendant around my neck. "The next thing I knew, I was in another lifetime where the two of us knew each other."

I admit there have been some strange situations in my life, but this one seemed to take the prize. This stranger proceeded to tell me she had traveled to a different lifetime after looking at my pendant—an ankh of all things. She shared with me how her world changed, how the tapestry surrounding her slowly faded away when her eyes glimpsed my pendant, and the two of us were walking upon a narrow cobble stone pathway during the Elizabethan era.

At the time, I was a bit intrigued as I was in the midst of editing a novel about past-life time travel. Ironically, only months earlier I had written a scene in Back to Salem where one of my characters is whisked away to a previous life after glimpsing an ankh the woman had owned in a previous life. In that moment, I realized this must have been a precognitive experience expressed in my writing. In other words, I had somehow glimpsed into my future and written about it–and now it had come to pass.

I also realized just how serendipitous and synchronistic my encounter was with Liz. After all, I had been running late from the previous class and took one of the last seats available, beside Liz. Then the fire alarm created an opportunity for the two of us to talk. It was as if the Universe had orchestrated our meeting.

Spoiler Alert: Do Aliens Walk Among Us?

As I looked at Liz, I knew I was to learn from her. My intuition told me this. I waited to find my unexpected good at the conference that weekend. I waited, anticipating that Liz would say something that would explain the reason behind our meeting. And then she said something so far outside my comfort zone–I quickly dismissed it as being the reason we met.

What Liz had shared with me seemed ridiculous. What she shared was, aliens walk among us, but we wouldn't know they were aliens, and in most cases, they would not know they were alien either. I remember politely nodding, yet quickly disregarding the statement.

I left that conference, however, with the genesis of my third novel, A Matter of Degrees.

Signs from the Universe

Just the other day I came home from the store, parked my car in the garage and brought packages into the house. Not too much time passed before I needed something in the car and returned to the garage only to find the car locked. 'Odd,' I thought. The keys were inside. Thankfully, I had a second set of keys. Of course, the logical mind tries to explain how the car got locked, and if the next thing hadn't happened I may have chalked it up to carelessness.

The following day when I got into the car I found that the seat was not in the position I drive it in. It wasn't in the position it automatically moves to when I stop the car, either. The seatback was uncomfortably leaning backwards. I like my seat more erect and I am the only one in my family who drives this car. I pressed the automatic button which returned the seat to its programmed position, my comfortable state.

Message from Spirit

It was then I knew the Universe was sending me a message. I had been using the Lifesign Process and was asking for guidance from Spirit about something important. This was my message: the answers (keys) are within, and they're not always comfortable. Not exactly the message I wanted to hear, but I knew it was right, and it was my time to turn within.

Unexplainable Things

When something unexplainable happens our mind goes through mental gymnastics to take the mystery out of it. In my book Lifesigns: Tapping the Power of Synchronicity, Serendipity and Miracles I place messages from Spirit into three groups, one of which is the unexplainable. Don't dilute the Universe's message by looking for rational explanations to the miracles sent by Spirit. When something odd happens ask yourself what could it mean? Then go within to get the answer.

When the Universe Conspires Against You

When the Universe conspires against you or life offers insistent challenge or conflict in a specific area, could it be Spirit's way of guiding you to another direction? Could interference from the Universe, or spiritual turbulence, be an indicator to take a timeout? While most would suggest that persistence overcomes resistance, I say there's a time to cry uncle and listen for a higher message.
